What an understatement!
Recently in the shade on my verandah at Apollo Bay on the south-eastern coast of Australia, the thermometer was reading 48C (118F).
Oh, Lord, night and day! I’d gladly send you some of our ice if I could, John!
Gosh, John, that’s must be suffocating (compared to us here in Melbourne). Take care and rehydrate regularly. 🙂
Vicki, I imagine many Melbourne residential shaded areas would have recorded temperatures around 48C on the day on the day in question. An accurate thermometer reading in the shade (ours was recorded under a shade tent) is not to be confused with the official BoM temperature for an area. Temperatures in the sun that day would of course have been well over 50C in Melbourne. So I’d say AB and Melbourne had very similar conditions that day.
Amazing photo! Stay warm, Eliza. 💗
Thank you, Betty!
Now that is major icing! Guess I should be grateful for our mild winter thus far.
What is crazy is that just a week ago it was 60 degrees – the temp dropped like a rock!
I am reconsidering wanting to live in a much colder climate. What a stunning capture.
Thank you, Tazzie. It isn’t so bad so long as one dresses appropriately. Felt-lined boots, down coat and scarf, hat and mittens make walks possible. We get out every day regardless of weather. It is invigorating, but always happy to get back to our snug home! It is easier to warm up in winter than cool down in a hot climate. 😉
i totally agree re getting cooler is harder.
Dang…I had to put on a sweater today…46 F
I hear you’ve been having some ‘winter’ weather! 46 sounds nice to me, ha!
Yes, bug difference between Truckee and Orland!
Winter returned to us as well, Eliza. Are you getting the snow from the western storm? It looks cold enough without snow!
Yes, we got about 3″ of very fine and dry snow, packed by wind. Cleanup won’t take long, thankfully. Might break freezing today, but I guess for the next week, the cold will continue. January in New England!
I was at a waterfall this morning Eliza! Didn’t quite look like yours. Very cold and yet beautiful 🙂
Nice! I love the energy near waterfalls, so soothing. Even under this ice, one can hear the flow of the stream, reminding that life is rushing onward. 🙂
Oh that’s beautiful 💦💧
You’re not kidding. I shivered just looking at the photo.
Single digits and teens for a few days can make a huge difference on our waterways. It has been very brisk walking these days! I love my down coat beyond words. 😉
Brrr….I can feel the chill. Great shot!
Thank you, Sandy!
You are most welcome, Eliza.
Soo chilly! Awesome pic!
All right. That gets a wowsah!
Thank you, Laurie. It is amazing what a few cold days can create!
Holy cats!
🙂
Beautiful photo but that’s just too cold. It’s 49 degrees here and I’m counting the days till May.
Thanks, Paulie. Yes, even for us, it is uncomfortably cold. But it is supposed to reach 40 today…we’ll see. More cold temps on the way after that. Sigh, it is winter in New England, after all.
Reblogged this on Blue Dragon Journal.
Thank you for reblogging!
WOW Eliza! Spectacular.
🙂 Thanks, Cindy!
Oh yes, that makes me shiver! Great photo.
Thank you, Allison!
It is a spectacular sight, such as I am unlikely to see here.
No, I expect not. It would be disaster if you had these temps there! The beauty is appreciated despite the cold.
Making the best of a cold situation. 🙂 I am sure you’d like it to warm up again. Your waterfall has become a cathedral of ice.
Thanks, Steve. It is amazing to think that it was in full melt last weekend, not a piece of ice in sight!
I guess we could say “That’s New England for you”. 🙂
Yup!
Wow
Pretty cold over here! 😉
I’ll say
It certainly is……….
One of winter’s wonders!
Brrrrrr!!! Nicely captured.
Frozen ‘babbling.’
Yes, it was in full spate after the warm weekend and froze quickly over the past couple of days. Such weather!
I follow the weather at home, and you’re caption covers it perfectly.
Yes, it has been so frigid after the warm spell last weekend. What a change. We got about 3″ of very fine, dry snow yesterday and after we get it cleaned up, the temp is said to get to 40 later. We will welcome the ‘warm up.’ 😉
Wow, that looks amazing Eliza, hope you’re all keeping warm! xxx
Thank you, Xenia. The wood stove has been going full time!
It’s pretty though!
It is, and to think it was all melted and gushing just a few days ago!
Wow Eliza! That is a lot of ice! Stay Warm!
Thanks, Reed! You can bet on that! 😉
Amazing, so cold! Great picture
Thank you, Phao. Yes, it’s been very cold!
It’s a beautiful photo!
Thank you, Correne!
Shivers!
Yes, indeed! 🙂
Brrr! That looks treacherous. Watch your step, please. 😳
Thank you, Irene. Spoken like a true mum. 🙂 Crossing this stream this time of year can be pretty dicey. Sometimes we have to go up to our neighbors driveway culvert to cross. Safey first!
Hehe! I guess I am on the looking out for danger mode. 😂
Ha, I do the same! Can’t help myself. 😉
Very beautiful!
Thank you, Agnes!
Same conditions here, Brrr. Lovely though!
Thanks, Belinda. Yes, back to our regularly scheduled programming. 😉
Love the photo and winter looks mighty serious in your area!🙂 We finally have snow after a weekend storm, but some of the lakes are still not frozen.
It feels like winter has finally arrived here. This week is going to be ‘normal’, i.e. COLD!
Oh So Cold! Pretty shot, Eliza!
Thank you, Donna. It is pretty cold out there right now. You’re in a much kinder climate!
Beautiful picture. You know it’s cold when running water freezes!
Absolutely! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
Beautiful but cold. Not had ice like that in a while.
Thank you, Jill. January is generally our coldest month. This morning it was 12F (-11C) with a breeze. ooooh, cold!
Brrrr, but beautiful!!!
Yes to both 🙂 Thanks, Jen!
Wow. Beautiful but that looks cold. I have never experienced cold like that! I like the apparently crystalline structure of the ice.
Thank you, Carol. If one dresses warmly, it isn’t too bad. 😉 The ice formation varies on temp, when it looks like Venetian glass, it is very cold!
Oh I can imagine to look like Venetian glass it must freeze very quickly. Glad to know one can dress warmly enough!
I felt quite cold but what beauty nature has created
Thank you, Diana. Warm clothing is definitely required these days!
Gorgeous!
Thank you, Fi. Winter has finally arrived!
Wow! This is so beautiful.
Thank you, Sylvia. The ice formations during these cold spells are always amazing. 🙂
Took my breath away!! Wow, gorgeous capture, Eliza! I’d say it’s cold and then some! xo
Thanks, Amy. It’s been pretty nippy out there lately!
Oh! wow!
😀 Quite an amazing sight, for sure!
Brrrr
🙂 Definitely!
Great photo, Eliza. You really captured the frigidity brilliantly. Beautiful with the icicles and leaves frozen in the ice and the flow…but only if I don’t have to be in the cold. yikes. Stay warm, my friend, and thanks for sharing the beauty with us.
Thank you so much, Jet. It has been bitter cold, esp. at night, this past week. A warm up is coming tomorrow – 40 degrees and rain on Saturday. That’ll change things up! Thanks for your visit. ❤
Whoa! So cool, Eliza! I love the way falls freeze in the wintertime.
Thanks, Julie! Deep freezes create that stop-action look that I esp. love.
Stunning picture Eliza, is that close to were you live?
Thank you, Brian. Yes, it is about 50′ from my house and to be honest, was the deciding factor in purchasing this home. I HAD to own this beautiful natural water feature. It has given me great joy over the past 30 years.
That really does look very cold. Still hoping for a little snow here just so I can get some photos of our cottage in the snow.
January can get quite frigid here. Hope you get your snow!
Amazing what water can do… transforming rom flowing to frozen to flowing again in a matter of days — or even hours in some cases! Thank you for this photo. Where are you in New England? I live just outside Boston…
I’m just two hours east of you. I love these rolling hills!
