It’s so different how one can live at the edge to the water. We live at the coast but it’s so different living on such a water. Is it a lake?

It is a river, mostly peaceful, but there have been floods during hurricanes… luckily they are infrequent.

When you live there, it’s definitely not far from the water! Views must be spectacular.
Living close to water is always attractive, so long as it isn’t storming! These buildings were flooded during Irene and it took months to get them back in shape, you could hardly tell now.

So are they on stilts of some kind, or concrete blocks, to prevent then from being flooded if/when the water rises?
They are cantilevered, of steel and wood construction, but they seem to survive floods. The last was 2011, which caused a lot of damage and closed many businesses. I saw mud being shoveled out first floor windows back into the river, ugh!
My goodness! I should say so. I don’t remember ever seeing anything like this in Maine.
Not a common sight, probably against most building codes these days anyway. 😉

From the concrete beneath them, I suspect the river rises from time to time. Otherwise? A beautiful place to live!
Yes, it is lovely to sit out and enjoy the river. My friend loved living there, but floods occasionally do occur (she was there for Hurricane Irene, and everyone evacuated safely).

A beautiful place! How far does the water rise in the spring?
There is a dam not far to the left and they open a sluice way to let out torrents of water. Salmon used to run there before the dam was built and it is still called Salmon Falls.
Very beautiful, but must feel a bit edgy sometimes!
