IAVOM – Two-toned Pocket Vase

This Ecuadoran hand-painted pocket vase features two different glazes, cobalt or aqua, depending upon which side you view.

The cobalt tends to be my favorite. Which do you favor?

In the vase: apricot Calendula officinalis, golden woodland sunflower (Helianthus divaricatus), quill-tipped sweet coneflower (Rudbeckia subtomentosa ‘Little Henry’), goldenrod (Solidago sp.), feverfew daisies (Tanacetum parthenium), white garlic chives (Allium tuberosum) and purple speedwell (Veronica longifolia).

Both sides are nice. I do not favor one or the other. I suppose the better side would depend on what goes within the vase, although both sides look good with these flowers.

  2. I’m envious of that vase, especially the cobalt side! The apricot calendula is really special too.

  3. That is a beautiful vase indeed. Both sides, although I think the cobalt one has the edge. And the flowers certainly suit it.

Eliza I wish to spend time in your garden. You make the most adorable bouquets. Love these flowers and the combination. The vase is exquisite on both sides, being a lover of bright colors I’d lean more to cobalt shade of blue. Thanks for sharing nature’s bounty.

You’d be most welcome in my garden, stop by any time! 🙂 First week in August the main garden peaks, but there is always something in bloom from April to October. Many thanks!

  5. Oh that’s delightful cheating Eliza. I like both, twice the view 🤣❤️🙏

    Too difficult to choose!

  11. Any way you look at it, it is a beautiful vase.

  12. Hmmm… I think I’d be turning the vase around each morning for variety. 😉

I much prefer the cobalt. And I’m wondering: is that gorgeous yellow flower in the second photo the quill-tipped coneflower? Over the years I’ve seen a few members of our native Gaillardia aestivalis with rays that looked much like that. I always casually assumed they were fading, but now I’m wondering if it might have been a genetic aberration.

  14. Alice's avatar Alice says:

Both sides are pretty…I very infrequently have a favorite…it all depends.

  15. that’s a pretty vase. How did you come by it?

  16. Dale's avatar Dale says:

One of my favorite color combinations! I love the vase too, with a nominal preference for the cobalt side but having a choice as to which side to face forward is a plus in my view.

Mercy, what gorgeous blooms! As for the vase, I’m with you — the cobalt side definitely strikes me as bolder and more attention-grabbing. But you know if the artisan had done both sides in the aqua shade, it would’ve been pretty, too. Perhaps it just depends on the colors of the flowers you place inside it?

  26. Cobalt is my favorite too. Lovely, lovely flowers.

  35. Love you flower arrangements!

  36. I’m of the opinion you can never go wrong with blue. But either way, what an exquisite vase. Perfect for that gorgeous bouquet.

  37. For me, it’s cobalt blue all the way! But, what a great idea to have two different sides depending on what flowers you are using!

  38. Oh, I love that pot, Eliza! And your arrangement in it is so creative!

  39. Cathy's avatar Cathy says:
