At last, the earth is beginning to awaken here in New England and the spring bulbs are cheering us with their happy flowers. All are miniatures, so it is a small vase, my first vase of the year!
The daffodil buds are Narcissus ‘Jetfire,’ accompanying light-blue Striped Squill (Puschkinia scilloides), Snowdrops (Galanthus nivalis), and a purple Crocus (self-sown) plucked from the lawn, with a few sprigs of evergreen Wooly Speedwell (Veronica incana)Β to finish.
I’m linking to Rambling in the Garden‘s In A Vase on Monday where bloggers meet to share arrangements made from flowers from their gardens. Click the above link to see floral arrangements made by gardeners from around the world.

Seeing California’s spring wildflowers has long been on my bucket list. With the long drought quenched by soaking rains the past few months, this year’s bloom promised to be a big one. I am most fortunate to have friends in SoCal willing to take me to see the show at Walker Canyon, Lake Elsinore and wow, what a mind-blowing event it was. The tiny people on the far ridge above give you an idea of how vast the coverage was, 180 degrees of mountain vistas covered with California poppies (Eschscholzia californica)Β and several other wildflowers.
