"Consider the birds of the air...."
Columbines sing of spring in my eyes! My own are long gone.
I have a few other hybrids that come earlier, like the various Barlows. This one is my last to bloom. I love the dramatic spurs.
Beautiful….reminds me of a fairy dress…..so pretty with the ferns.
….and I saw a Monarch this morning (8:45am)….happily flying from Milkweed to Milkweed…no photo, yet.
That’s exciting news. I hope you have babies! My spouse said he thought he saw one yesterday. My milkweed patch has tripled, so they have plenty to eat. I saw a Viceroy last week, hoping it was a Monarch, but a close mimic. July is usually when we see the last stage of Monarchs here. Such an amazing creature.
Thank you, Alice. They remind me of fairies, too.
I hope there are lots of Monarch caterpillars….my milkweed is thriving and our bees love it…it smells so awesome…at Wyman’s nursery there were 2 large Black Swallow Tail caterpillars on a dill plant, in a little screened enclosure….I’ll check my parsley & dill, again.
Beautiful 🌈💕
Thank you, Karen. 🙂
Quiet beauty – lovely 🙂
Thank you, Adele!
That’s a great picture! My first thought was that it looks like a shooting star!!
Thank you, Joanna! It does look like a shooting star or a fairy flower. 🙂
Love columbines and this is so delicate in both colour and shape.
Thank you, Penny. They are like flying fairies. 🙂
Such delicate beauties.
They are. Do you grow columbines? I bet the native red/yellow ones would like your yard.
I have tried, but as with so many other plants, no luck. That’s why everything’s coming up hostas in my yard. 😉
Sadly, the deer have found half of my hostas and munched them – slugs, deer, rodents, insects – ‘it’s always something!’
I’m not going to “Like” this. Sigh. Wish they would all munch on something else.
With so much in the forest around here, I wonder the same.
I guess your offerings are more delectable. 😉
So beautiful. They look so clean and fresh. Great photo as well.
Thank you very much, Maria. 🙂
Beautiful photo Eliza, wonderful colour and background.
Thank you, Belinda!
Beautiful capture Eliza 💛 Love the fern fronds in the background.
Thank you, Val!
Beautiful photo!🙂 Love the combination of the yellow flower with the wonderful background colors.🙂
Thank you!
Lovely shot 🙂 The flower shows up so well with the dark background.
Thank you, Vicki, it is like a beacon in the shade garden. 🙂
So pretty!
Thank you, Fi!
Beautiful – columbines are one of those flowers I have never been able to get to grow – I have a couple spots in the backyard where they might work, though. Now that we’ve started to get things organized back there, I may have to try again.
Thank you, Sarah. I’ve had the best luck with the ‘Barlow’ series, particularly ‘Blue’ and ‘Nora Barlow’ – they self sow readily.
Oh, I’ll keep those in mind and put them on my “plants to buy” list.
Love the shady darkness of this photo. Lovely capture, Eliza. ❤
Thank you, Olga!
One of my must have garden plants.
It is a beauty! A. chrysantha https://www.rhs.org.uk/Plants/Search-Results?form-mode=true&context=b%3D0%26hf%3D10%26l%3Den%26q%3Daquilegia%2Byellow%2Bstar%26s%3Ddesc%2528plant_merged%2529%26sl%3DplantForm&query=aquilegia%20chrysantha
This is a really interesting one. I’ve seen these Columbines as one of Apple iPhone’s wallpaper.
It is a dancing beauty, for sure!
