Corn in MA? I didn’t know!
Love that last shot, with the hills & turning leaves behind.
Thank you, Micheal. The colors are peaking around now.
Our few remaining dairies (there used to be dozens) grow their own cow corn, ground to silage for fodder.
So the corn is for the cows! Yet another case of I didn’t know that either. The ignorance of a city girl π ! I love these rural scenes. Looks like heaven to me.
Country heaven, yes!
Funny story: this field is across the river from me (can’t see it though) and for several years, EVERY year, I’d hear the tractor and chopper and would think “I should go get a picture of that” but never did. This year, I heard it and said, “THIS year is it.” I get in the car and drive around to the bridge and back to the field. I turn around, park, get out and they are finishing for the day and leaving (what?!!). They don’t cut it all at once for some reason. So back home I went. Next time I heard it, I go AT ONCE and get the shots. Whew. YEARS in the development, lol!
Oh, these are beautiful Eliza.
Thank you, Cindy. π
A good themed set
Thank you, Derrick.
It would be interesting to know more…looks like the whole plant is being shredded, or is the corn somehow separated?
It is corn silage, using the whole plant, fermented to break down the lignin, making it more bioavailable to the livestock.
Thank you, Eliza! Checking every morning for Cuphea roots…none, yet.
Wonderful set portraying harvest season. π We’re past that here which is probably a good thing since we finally got some rain overnight. 1.5 inches. Yay!
Thank you, Robin. That’s a good rain – we got similar the other day. The earth is happy!
Harvest time!
Another sign of fall. π
Abundance!
Yes! Happy cows, too. π
Beautiful images.
Thank you, Sylvia.
LOVE! Harvest. The colors are wonderful!
Thank you, Kathy!
Wonderful autumn scene. “We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.”
π Yes, thanks, Peter!
Harvest time! Even farm machinery in your part of the country is photogenic!
Haha, love it! Thanks, Kris. π
That corn is so green to be harvesting it! Ours is practically brown before they get it out of the fields.
This will be fermented, so green works better, supposedly makes it more bioavailable.
Interesting! I had seen some of ours come in, and I thought it was super early for it. This must have been what they were doing.
Great set of shots Eliza!
Thank you very much, Karen. I like your new gravatar, I didn’t recognize you at first!
Thanks Eliza I just had my hair lopped and dyed, it was going a bit grey, glad u like it.
Beautiful scenes of Fall harvesting. It’s amazing how beautiful the most common daily tasks can be.
Thank you, Sally. I love that we still have small farms in our area. Man, those folks work so hard! Hats off to them.
Wonderful photo series!π
Thank you!
They are in the process of harvesting it here also. The cows love it.
those are great pictures! We don’t see many cornfields around here. The potato harvest is almost finished here, I think.
Thank you, Joanna. There are only a few dairy farms left in town, sad to say.
Maine is the land of blueberries and potatoes!
Lovely photos, Eliza xo
Thank you, Rebecca!
Gee, the cornfield looks so familiar…great shots, m’dear!
Thank you, Carol! π
Amazing how farmers are able to de-husk the corn, leaving the entire stalk behind. Just amazing, Elisa! Love your images! π
Thank you, Amy. π
Thanks for teaching us through beautiful photos! All the cornfields in our county, and I’ve not taken the time to observe its harvest.
Thank you, my pleasure. The rhythm of the seasons keeps us connected to the earth. π
