Okay, obviously, these flowers didn’t come from my garden (seen in the background on a mild, foggy day last week). But can you blame this flower lover for wanting some Winter Relief from all the snowy, cold weather?
I was gifted with an armload of flowers (hallelujah!) and out came my large Polish glass vase, the only one large enough to hold them all.
Made up of white and fuchsia-pink daisy mums, deep pink alstroemeria, and chartreuse hydrangea, I’m a happy camper every time I look at them!
Cathy at Rambling In the Garden, hosts a weekly meme to showcase arrangements created from our gardens. Wander over to see what gardeners all over the world are arranging this week. In the UK, for instance, snowdrops and aconites are already blooming!
With alternating warm and cool spells, bringing rain and snow, ice formations have grown to pretty amazing proportions in my neck of the woods. Particularly where rock has been blasted away to widen roadways, we get to see up close the beauty of these marvels of nature.
Note the squiggly road curve sign and the ice cascades encroaching upon the road edge, stretching up towards the Summit. I expect the public works crew has to use a lot of road salt to reduce ice that builds up and spills into the road, as well as removing slabs of ice that break off into the road itself, quite a danger to oncoming traffic.

Every year, I make a swag to hang on the post next to the mailbox out by the road. I’d like to think it cheers those driving by as well as the mail carrier.
Made with branches of Fraser fir (Abies fraseri) and Eastern white pine (Pinus strobus), mountain laurel (Kalmia latifolia), pine cones and winterberries (Ilex verticillata) add interest. It is finished with a large, red gingham-checked ribbon.
