It was only ten days ago that we received 9″ in a similarly heavy snowstorm, so we’re getting plenty of exercise!
Is it spring yet??

That’s a lot of wet snow. Our most recent was 4″ and very very wet. We couldn’t lift the shovel with much slush in it. Mostly we pushed it off the walk and drive. I wouldn’t want to have 13″ of that.
Thanks, Jim. On the deck, I shovel it in halves, the top half I have to lift and throw (ugh), the bottom half I push off; but the sidewalks, all lift! I let my spouse manage the snow blower and driveway. We slept well! 🙂
No one in the neighborhood used their snowblowers. It would have clogged up.
Yes, that can happen here, the berm had to be done by hand for that reason. If it stays close to freezing, we can usually snow blow. We’d have to call in a snow plow if it got heavier. Fortunately, that has only happened a couple times in 30+ years.
Ugh…you need your own plow!
Yes, if we stay here, there might be a small tractor in our future!
Wow, this winter has been crazy all over the country. I watch the weather channel, that storm hanging in the northeast needs to go. Stay warm! ❤️
Thanks, John. Another 4″ overnight… more to shovel, lol! I see you are getting rain?
Yes, we had rain yesterday but it was a slow steady rain on and off. Rain today but less frequently. I’ll take it, better than snow which is high in the surrounding mountains where it belongs! Be careful with your back and heavy snow.
Thanks, John, I will.
I think it’s fair to say that the seasons have not changed anywhere Eliza!! Cold or hot ha ⛄️☀️⛄️
Nature is really dishing it out globally. I’m sending you a cooling breeze!
That is SO not cool! And we got snow for a good part of the day but thankfully it did not stick. That said, we have more than enough still, so… please spring, I’m with Eliza! Come on now!
Thanks, Dale. IKR? There was a wide range in accumulations even just an hour’s drive apart. Elevation has its effect. At mid-March, I’m hoping this is the last one. 🙏🏼
Right! And yes, the range is crazy! What area do you live in (I feel like I know but am having a brain fart) I so hope this is the last one! March is a fickle one.
Western Mass. about 450 km south of you.
Now that we’ve had the lion, let’s hope we get the lamb. 🙂
Not so far so that explains our similar weather! Yes, please. I am more than ready for the lamb! (Mind you, I can’t really complain. Today was gorgeous!)
Ugh. I know how you feel – achy! Please take it very slowly, so you don’t injure yourself.
Thanks, Su. I don’t push myself too hard these days. I don’t want to pay the price. 😉 Slept well however!
We feel your pain in MN! We can’t get winter to leave. 40 degrees one day and 6” of wet heavy snow the next. Sigh.
Yeah, shoveling at our age is no picnic, right? It is mid-March, the end is in sight… I hope!
It is pretty to look
Yes, and good for the water table. 😀
Come to India
Thanks, I’m on my way, lol! xx
😅💕
I guess no more snow angels, hey? Out this way, this is the wettest drought I have ever seen. Hang in there!
Thanks, Gary. Haven’t made a snow angel in years. This snow would be perfect for snow sculpture, snowball fights, etc. With school cancelled these two days, it gives the local kids something to do. It was still snowing at 6 this morning, with another 4″ on the ground. Power still out, alas. Super quiet out there last night!
Paradise got lots of snow too lately. I honestly didn’t miss it – especially with all the trees gone.
Yes, I imagine it will take ages for burned areas to recover. Such a sad thing to see.
wow – sending some virtual hot chocolate
Thanks, much appreciated! 🙂
🙏☀️
What a change! I don’t envy you having to keep your driveway clear.
Yes, every time the plow goes by, there’s more work to do. Getting me in shape for gardening season. 😉
Let’s hope for you that these are the last 13″ of snow for this year.
Indeed, my thought as well! 🙂
Oh wow! That’s quite something to have to cope with that often.
Yeah, getting me in shape for the gardening season! 😉
😱
You got that right, ha! 😀
It is beginning to look as though Spring has decided to give it a miss this year!
IKR? It’s mid-March, so hopefully, warmer days are upon us. 🙂
It’s the meteorological version of March madness! In Iowa, we always had a boys’ basketball tournament blizzard; it looks as though you got a taste this year.
Yes! March typically carries the biggest storms of the year, so no surprise. 🙂
Wow! All we got down here was wind and rain, plenty of rain. Good luck with your shoveling. Do you do it all at once or take some hot cocoa breaks?
I did mine (deck, walks, around the house), my spouse snowblows the driveway) all at once, but my spouse had to come back and do the berm. My second round while he did that was to try and get snow off my shrubbery. Lots of breakage. 😦
We’ve had another 4″ overnight, so there is more to shovel this morning. 45º tomorrow! 🙂
That is a super challenging amount of snow boulders. I hope the sun comes out & starts the melting process. And to think there are places that got even more snow. 26 miles south of Boston we had a very rainy day & then a coating of snow.
Yes, just west of us got more than 2′, so yeah, like the saying goes, ‘it could be worse!’ 45º tomorrow. 🙂
I know it isn’t good that we’ve had only an inch or so of snow this winter, but I can’t say I miss the shoveling.
Yeah, I have to focus on how pretty is and that it is a slow-release water source that fills aquifers. 😉
I know we are all grateful for snowplows on the main roads, but they sure do leave a challenge at the end of the driveway for homeowners. Nothing that can be done about it, but it is a job to clear something like that. Sure hope the snowblower could manage it even small bites at a time.
Too heavy for the snowblower, hubby had to use the snow scoop to slide pieces of it off to the side. We got another 4″ overnight, so we’re off to repeat the process once again. I do love living in New England despite the winter weather. 🙂
Groan……we topped off at 24-26 inches. Where are we going to put the stuff??
Wow, we read that Mt. Snow got 2′ so figured you got similar. At least they are happy. 🙄
I was in CT in 1993 and 9 months pregnant for the snowstorm of the century. I feel your pain. Our temperatures are dropping to 38 this week and everyone is in a tizzy about that.
Yes, nature gives us challenges. ‘What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger!’ 😉
Hi Eliza. Oh poor you! Obviously spring isn’t there yet. It has to arrive eventually – hang on in there.
MJ
Yes, it can’t be too much longer now. 🙂
Oh boy is right! We call the berm left by the plow “Wall O’ Snow.” And we know from personal experience what a challenge Wall O’ Snow can be. Hope the clean-up goes well and that you two take plenty of rests.
Yes, we pace ourselves. Another 4″ overnight, so out we go again. Another Wall O’ Snow is calling! How much snow did you end up with?
Hi Eliza, Mother Nature isn’t fooling around with any of us! Enjoy the beauty of snow despite the shoveling. ❄️☃️
Thank you, Jane. Clearing and windy today, more clean up and then some snowshoeing. I see that you are getting more rain? What a winter, eh?
Yes, poured yesterday. Lots of flooding and more snow in the mountains.
Oh dear, I’m so sorry. We don’t have snow on the ground right now, but the next few days are supposed to be in the 30s (for highs), and everybody I’ve talked to whines about how late spring is. Guess that Rodent was right after all when he predicted more winter!
Thanks, Debbie. I’m grateful for the water for our water table, it’ll help next summer. 🙂
Ugh! take it slow and easy, Eliza! We’ve had nearly 3 inches of rain just from the current “atomospheric river” so, if your weather is affected by ours, I’m afraid you may have more of the same coming. And, it’s looking like there may be another atmospheric river behind this one…
This is the year for rain in CA! 3″ in one storm, wow! Yes, I have noticed how these weather fronts cross the country. Maybe these next two will go north or south of us to give us a break!
This is finally typical NE! However with a new snowblower that will not start it meant an all day shoveling event. A little at a time and the job was done.
Oh, no! Gosh, that must have been tough…it was so heavy! New equipment isn’t made as well as the old, I guess. Hope the problem is still under warranty. 😠
Sending warm, melty thoughts your way. Spring is lurking under there somewhere.
Thank you, Amy. I’m sure it is, too. It’s funny that we were all talking about the ‘non-winter’ here a month ago. Our tune has changed as it finally arrived in early March!
March is the weirdest weather month, I think. We are actually having a cold snap here, 65 this morning! Had to break out a sweatshirt.
65 sounds nice to me! The next few days are supposed to be in the 40s and that will feel pretty good. 🙂
Melty!
Yes!
Oh, my! I hope spring finds its way to you soon, Eliza…
Thank you, Kim. Any day now… 🙂
Same here, Eliza!
I don’t envy your snow, but you probably don’t envy my long summers. 🙂 Take care, don’t pull any muscles and remember: the heating pad is your friend.
That is true! I often think that, in those moments when I find myself envious of folks with things starting to bloom in Feb. and Mar.
I did use the heating pad afterwards yesterday and it does make a difference. Thanks, Tina!
I feel your back pain. We only got about 5″ but very heavy and wet. Fortunately I didn’t clear it until after the plow went by. The second pass is always insult to injury. 🙂 We’re making up for the winter that didn’t happen when it should have. 6 days til spring. 🙂
Thanks, Steve. I’m hoping this was the last one, we’ll see.
Those snow berms are no joke! … thankfully after a big enough fall out road ploughs have a front-end loader coming behind them to clear the driveways of most of the junk.
Wow, that would be a dream for us. You are most fortunate!
I’m exhausted just looking at the photos and thinking of you shoveling all that heavy snow!!🙂 There’s been a few snowstorms that I could have cried after clearing the driveway and then having the plow create another mess. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the first day of spring scares winter away.🙂
Aw, thanks, S. Now that it is behind me, it wasn’t so bad, ha! 😉 I didn’t work so hard today. Though it was heartbreaking to cut up my dogwood that snapped in half. All those buds! I’m going to try to force them inside. It won’t be the same, but it might be worthwhile doing.
That is an impressive amount of snow, Eliza. Spring is coming, though I suspect it “arrives” sooner in California. I hope you are seeing flowers and greenery soon.
Thank you, Alys. After a slow start, winter has now caught up with us! It won’t last long, I expect. Days are warming!
I’m seeing signs of spring everywhere. I can’t wait.
Oh no! Hope it melts really quickly!
With most days well above freezing, I expect it will. Thanks, Cathy!
To shovel, yes, but also to enjoy visually.
Yes!
Oh no! We’ve been really lucky in comparison. I hope some mild temperatures come your way!!
Thank you, Belinda. Winter can’t last much longer, the days are longer and warmer every day!
In three days..spring…😆
IKR? I think we’ll be waiting a while to feel it!
It looks as if the snow is falling as snowmen – or as near as it can manage.
Yes, it was wet, sticky stuff, perfect for making snow people, snow balls and snow forts!
Phew, that’s a lot of snow.
Thankfully, the sun is strongly working on it!
13″ more? Oh no, that was surely a surprise! We had sustained 20-25+ mph winds so it must have been like a blizzard up your way!! Can I say it is still pretty?!! 🙂
Yes, it is very pretty, esp. after the chores are done! The worst part was the massive loss of power that took a while for the crews to restore. Lots of downed trees and wires up here. All is well now, yay. 🙂
Yay!
If I ever have to shovel that much wet snow, we are out of here the next day! 😂
LOL, that thought did cross my mind as I was struggling to free my favorite shrubs bent over in that mess. 🙂
Has it all melted yet?
About a half of it, still a foot plus in the yard. We won’t mention snowbanks! 😉
Wow! I hope this week is much warmer for you.
50s according to the forecast… it’ll go quickly!
