There are many wonderful, unsung authors in the blogosphere and I’ve been blessed to discover a few that really capture my heart. I’ve been following Dennis Ference at Merging Traffic for a while now and his short aphorisms sum up spiritual living so succinctly, I’m often left pondering his words for hours afterwards. Reminiscent of Kahlil Gibran in The Prophet, his simple truths strike a chord.
I recently bought his book, From The Water’s Edge from Amazon, and have been savoring the delicate wisdom he shares within its pages. Divided into 365 passages, one for each day of the year, it is a great way to start or end each day with words that guide and awaken us to lead more fulfilling lives. Never preachy, they gently point the way for the seeker to find his or her own way.
This book will have a permanent place on my bookshelf and I envision my turning to it again and again in the years to come. Thank you for writing it, Dennis!
Here are just a few passages that spoke to me:
“Your story does not stand alone. It is interwoven with the stories of countless others, affected by and affecting the lives of persons you love and persons you do not even know. It is, furthermore, a page in the book of the entire universe. Name it as such and dare to claim as your own, that bigger story.”
“The road to acceptance is sometimes strewn with shards of glass.”
“A soul awakened to the divine presence within is freed to find its way to a place of peace in even the severest of life’s laments and losses.”
“Surrendering to our fears is like locking the doors and closing the blinds, peeking through the slats every few minutes to see if Death is walking our block.”
“Feeling unloved does not make you unlovable.”
“When you consider death a curtain rather than a bolted door, you are freed to participate more fully in the mystery, magic, and marvel of life.”
If your interest has been peaked, do head over to Merging Traffic for a look or visit Amazon to order your own copy of this gem of a book.*
