WPC: Seasons

IMG_8468

“Your path, like all paths, has its seasons. Many bends can make it difficult to follow. Stop and rest when you are tired, or dance and sing when it pleases you. The tallest trees are totems belonging to the heavens. Saplings are teachers; they reveal how each of us can make use of small amounts of light. Some trees have fallen, as will you one day. They feed the many lives that have no wings. They become soft with time, offering an unseen world the best of food and shelter.”   ~ Bob Luckin

What I Need

IMG_5007What I need right about now…

…because I’m having a bit of resistance accepting ‘what is’ today…

IMG_0298IMG_0285IMG_0256IMG_0250Spring is officially 34 days away. I’ve got a while yet to go, so I’m going to have to deal with what’s happening today.

Okay, I’ll admit it, it is rather beautiful. (Sigh)

Love

“Love is within us. It cannot be destroyed. It can be ignored… Denying love is our only problem and embracing it is the only answer… Love heals, forgives and makes whole.”   ~ Ernest Holmes

“Remembering to love yourself today and every day is crucial. Do not wait for someone else to bring you gifts. Shower yourself in love. You don’t have to go out and buy a gift for yourself if you don’t want to. The greatest gift you can give yourself is to treat yourself with love and respect.

Look in the mirror, look yourself in the eyes and tell yourself that you love you. For some, this may seem difficult or even silly. But do it anyway. Loving yourself is the best way to love the world. Be your own valentine. Love yourself with all of your heart.”  ~ Eugene Holden

A Touch of Snow

IMG_0997 Another four inches of light, fluffy snow fell overnight. It’s the best kind of snow, because it is easy on the shrubbery and a breeze to shovel without a lot of back strain. A few stray clouds contributed more snowflakes this morning.

IMG_1033When the sun came out, it highlighted the glittering, individual flakes. It is amazing to think that no two are alike. Everything in the landscape is dusted in white, creating a sparkling fairyland.IMG_1085

IMG_1021The white-etched dark branches contrast against the startlingly blue sky – a delight to the eye and heart.

I breathe in deeply the crisp, clean air, grateful to live in such a gorgeous place. It’s good to be alive on a day like this!

Winter At Last

IMG_0789

Winter at last! It finally looks and feels like winter out there. We received about 5 inches of snow in an overnight storm that ended at mid-day.

IMG_0908I was beginning to wonder if winter would pass us by without any significant snowfall. However, here in New England, we can receive storms into April, so it was a wait-and-see game.

IMG_0950Cottony bolls of snow caught in the forks of twigs and topped the seed heads of echinacea and monarda with little white caps in the garden .

A blustery wind chased the last of the clouds to the east and tossed the snow from branches in clumps and sparkly mists that billowed and swirled through the air.IMG_0832

A walk around showed sharp contrast between dark tree trunks and branches edged in white.IMG_0850

IMG_0891Patches of blue sky spread behind silhouettes of chalk-lined oaks and tawny, rustling beech leaves danced in the breeze.

IMG_0815The river stretched out in a black ribbon, cleared of ice after our recent warm spell.  A few crows foraged at the river’s edge, turning stones in search of a meal. Their sentinel watched from a branch high above, ready to alert the browsers of any danger.

I’m glad the hard-packed icy crust had melted only a few days ago, to be replaced by soft, fluffy snow that is much easier and safer for walking. Our dog Wren, of course, is overjoyed.IMG_4308
