In mid-June, I picked up a bag of half-price Gladiolus tubers thinking they’d be worth trying. So far, I’ve had a few bloom stalks and today’s vase features one of them. Also included: Dahlia ‘Chilson’s Pride’ and ‘Lemonade’, white, pink and purple spider flower (Cleome hassleriana), Zinnia elegans ‘Envy’, purple Verbena bonariensis and wild heart-leaved aster (Symphyotrichum cordifolium) as filler.

Gladioli are rad! They were some of the first flowers I grew when I was a kid. I also purchased the inexpensive corms.

Whenever I come across a bunch of gladioli in the store, it’s hard to resist. They are so elegant and uplifting. They also pair well with the assorted flowers you added.
