A favorite Bearded Iris (I. germanica) of mine is one I call ‘Root Beer’ but its true cultivar is unknown to me as it was a passalong many years ago.

A few Allium seedheads were added, some stems of Geum ‘Totally Tangerine’ and catmint (Nepeta racemosa), ninebark foliage with blooms just starting to open and fuzzy lamb’s ears flower buds (Stachys byzantina).

What an excellent iris! We grow quite a few here, but none are red or brown.
Thanks, Tony. It’s quite a remarkable one.
Nice flowers Eliza, as no doubt is the warmth that went with them. Thank you for the share…and any spare warmth you don’t need would be appreciated 🤣❤️🙏
Thanks, Mark. Hope you find a pocket of sunshine to sit in. 🙂
I got a little bit thank you, but I’ve been invited to a barbecue at the beach tomorrow, maybe I can sneak a bit more there 🤣
These are beautiful. And I love those dried roses in background 😊
Thank you, Rupali. Those roses were a gift from my spouse last winter and they dried beautifully, exuding a delicious scent, a lasting gift!
😊
Beautiful colours!
Thank you, Anne!
Gorgeous, perfect and unusual color combination.
Thank you, Alice!
Loving the summer colors beginning to show
Thank you, Donna. Happy days!
Root beer is the perfect name for its coloring. A beautiful iris.
Thank you, Barbara. It’s definitely a beauty I look forward to every year.
Great name! Definitely gives the arrangement a fall vibe.
Thank you, Laurie. It’s a favorite, for sure. 🙂
That is a great color and name. The passalongs keep on going strong.
Thank you, some of our best plants are the shared ones. 🙂
I love those velvety irises Eliza. Especially with Totally Tangerine. What wonderful colours together. Love that vase too! 😄
Thank you, Cathy!
gorgeous arrangement – oh those bronze iris 🤎
Thank you, Catherine. Such a rich color!
Such a pretty arrangement. I love brown flowers, what a gorgeous iris.
Thank you, Liz. It is a favourite, and quite prolific, too. I never mind picking them to bring inside or sharing tubers with others.
I love that color!!!
Rootbeer, maybe also chocolate? In any case, worthy of IAVOM.
Thank you, Hien!
Hi Eliza. I love that colour . I’ve been following your wonderful vases for long enough now I am starting to recognise your flowers. Like old friends!! MJ
Ha, what a sweet thing to say. I do think of my favorites that way. It is a joy when they return every year.
This vase makes me think of autumn. And that’s not all bad, as it’s to be scorching hot the next few days!
Thanks, Sandy. When the weather is extreme, either in summer or winter, I try to remember the opposite weather, too.
So pretty. I’ve never seen a Bearded Iris in that color. Does it get its name from the color?
Thanks, Pepper. I call it ‘Root Beer’ but I doubt the breeder named it that, probably something a bit more lofty. 😉
Although not a fan of irises, as you may recall, I rather like the colour of these, probably because it is so unusual. The geum is a perfect companion, along with the soft green of the stachys
Thank you, Cathy. Happily, they bloom at the same time, so I can put them together!
Unique colours!! 🤗🤩🙌🏼
Thank you, Susan!
This warm colour is very beautiful. I don’t think I’ve seen this colour of iris before.
Thanks, Maria. It isn’t all that commonly seen, but what a beauty it is.
Oh, I love that iris color! Very nice arrangement!
Thank you, Tina!
I love the color of that iris, so unusual. The arrangement is really lovely, Eliza.
Many thanks, Tina!
Perfect name for a very interesting Iris!
Thank you, Kris! 🙂
A beautiful colour and arrangement and vase 😊
Thank you, Belinda!
I have a friend in Louisiana who has dedicated herself to propagating native irises: particularly the rust-colored Iris fulva. Yours is equally beautiful; personally, I prefer their color to the blues.
Thanks for sharing that species, Linda. Same gorgeous color, I wonder if it played a part in this cultivar’s creation? Sadly, we’re a bit too cold here to grow I. fulva (of course I checked!).
Unusual colors (root beer!) and a pretty arrangement, captured in your images.
Thank you, Tom. A bit of a busy background, but I thought the brick matched the iris. 🙂
Such a stunning colour! Lovely arrangement, Eliza.
Thank you, Flavia. Definitely love at first sight with that iris. 😉
Pass alongs have stood the test of time and vigour, unlike plants that just last a season or two then fizzle out. Your Irises are so beautiful and the arrangement you made really shows them off nicely. Thanks for sharing.
Many thanks, Noelle!
I’ve never seen an iris that color. It is beautiful. The vase just sets the arrangement off. Nice one.
Thank you, Judy!
I like the name ‘Root Beer’ – I have a similar tall Iris for which I may just borrow it…
It suits, doesn’t it? And it’s my favourite soda, too. 😉
When they’re that pretty, who cares what it’s name it. Root Beer sounds perfect to me! A lovely bouquet, Eliza.
Thank you, Monika! ‘A rose by any other name…’ 😉
😊
LOVE this Root Beer one!! Very pretty in this arrangement.
Thank you, Dale!
Rootbeer and lamb’s ear make a lovely combo in your vase.
Thank you, Alys. There’s a great palette to play with out there now. 🙂
Nice!
