I love this photograph! It reminds me of the number of old sneezewood fence posts that dot our countryside, many of them are over a century old.

Old fences have so much character. The wood might have seen better days though?

    • Eliza Waters says:

Thanks, Joanne. It does have great character, beautiful as it ages (I’d like to think that applies to us as well 😉 ). Since it is no longer used to fence livestock, I expect it will be left to decay.

  4. Ah thats a lovely scene Eliza. I love photos like that. There is a lot of old farm machinery around here just left. It makes for a nostalgic scene

  5. Steve Tanham says:

Very atmospheric, Eliza. Love the subtle curve…

  6. Whenever I see something like this fence or the stonewalls now “lost” in the woods I think of the labor that went into making them, the endeavor to make a living on the land, and the memories that might be attached to them. Poignant image, Eliza.

  7. Robin says:

I love the curve and wondering about what’s around the corner. It looks as though it’s a well used path, judging by all the animal tracks.

    Just lovely

  9. Treah Pichette says:

Beautiful picture & sentiment….old fence line & old cornstalks. So South Ashfield!

  10. Old fence line. I see character. I see stories. I see families. 🙂

  11. Alice says:

Looks like a great place to walk!

  12. Old fence and the snow go well together.

  13. A sign of pastures past?

  14. Literally cool! what are the tracks?

  15. arlingwoman says:

Lovely. Looks like a scene from my childhood…

  16. I can hear the crunching of the snow as I take in a cleansing breath (sans facemask!)!

  17. Debbie says:

Is that fence designed to keep something out or to keep something in? Or perhaps it’s just a barrier kind of thing? Nicely done, Eliza!

  18. Kris P says:

It looks like there’s plenty of traffic of all kinds along that boundary!

    • Eliza Waters says:

Yes, there were quite a lot of turkeys (which we saw on the edge of the woods who quickly melted away invisibly into the trees) and coyote particularly, plus deer and fox tracks. Lots of wildlife, good to see.

  19. It looks like a well walked path and I can see why. Very nice, Eliza!

  20. Love the lead-in with your composition of the fence, Eliza, nicely done! I saw the wildlife tracks too. 🙂

  21. dylan hereford says:

    Woah nice

  22. Love the old fence and the path that looks like it has more animal prints than footprints! Hope the latest snow storm is missing your area!🙂

    • Eliza Waters says:

Thank you, Susan. There were lots of animal tracks out there and we left the only human ones (other than tractor tire tracks on the road). We’re getting LOTS of snow, supposed to run through tomorrow afternoon… a foot or more expected. Groan.

  23. Jane Lurie says:

Fence lines are so photogenic. Love your leading lines of the tracks, Eliza.
