Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) with calendula and zebra mallow in background
A nice, temperate break in the weather mid-week, sandwiched between hot and humid. ‘Tis high summer!
Here are just a few of the highlights in my garden this week (hover over or click photos for ID):
Many varieties of Daylilies are in bloom :
The poppies are almost done, but the bees and I are still loving the last of them.

Mauve and red Lettuce-leaf Poppy (Papaver somniferum)
And a few other lovelies:
Beautiful shots !
I love them all !!!
Thank you very much!
Oh, what beautiful photos, especially the Poppies! At every stage: bud, bloom and seed head, flowers are just so beautiful and promising.
Thank you, Alice. 🙂
Gorgeous.
Thank you. 🙂
Fell in love with those poppies, but loved nigella damascena the most! Happy Weekend, Eliza.
Thank you, Archita!
These are beautiful! I especially like the Lettuce Leaf Poppy 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you, Jenny!
My love-in-a-mist are long gone as are the poppies. Your purple ones are beautiful–don’t you love the seed heads?
Yes, I’m determined to harvest some pods earlier this year. If I wait, they get moldy and ugly. Too soon and they wither. Timing is everything! 🙂
Lovely assortment!
Thank you!
I have very few sempervivums in my garden. For the life of me, I can’t tell you why but as I’ve recently found myself repeatedly drawn to the flowers, I’ll have to remedy that. Have a great weekend, Eliza!
Thank you, Kris. Same to you!
i LOVE poppies and these are beautiful. Lovely photographs.
Thank you, Gigi.
What a lovely collection. I keep checking my Echinacea but they haven’t opened yet. They struggle a little in our damp climate but I really like them so persist!
Thank you. I expect they would be tough to grow there as they are used to hot, dry summers with intermittent rain.
Not something we get indeed!!!!!
There are so many lovely Hemerocallis aren’t there? They grow quite well for me although they have already finished flowering for this year. The nigella is always a joy.
Thank you, Christina. The number of hybrids is staggering with more created every year. I don’t own any of the really fancy ones, but I do admire them when I see them.
The best ones that grow for me are actually the ones I saw growing by the road verges last year in N Carolina. The smaller yellow one H. ‘Stella d’Oro’ also fliers very well.
Rock solid!
Another great folk name – lettuce leaf poppy – I haven’t heard that before.
I use it because opium poppy carries too much baggage. 😉
Beautiful. I’m looking forward to photos from your trip to Maine.
Thank you, Brenda. Next time, you’ll have to come with us. 🙂
Now that would be fun.
Beautiful photos of beautiful flowers. My personal favorite is the “love in the mist”. Great name, and how nice you caught it with mist!
Thank you, Micheal. I know, wasn’t that perfect? A misty-Mist!
Poppies are my favorite. I think they always look so strong. I really liked the photos and scrolling over the labels in the center. Your work always speaks of “abundance”
Thanks, Kim. Nature gets the credit for the abundance, I’m only the tending hand. 🙂
Wow an amazing collection – gorgeous!!
Thank you, Mary!
So nice, Eliza! I especially love the purple and red poppies.
Thanks, Laurie. They seem to be the most popular this week. 🙂
lovely images. Summer has arrived here in the UK at last too!
Thank you, Ann. Let’s enjoy it while we can. 🙂
Beautiful! Love the poppies. Are they self-sown?
Thank you. Yes, they self-sow every year, I just have to thin them to about a foot apart. They are an big event every July!
They’re beautiful flowers. Incidentally, I like that trick of the caption appearing when I hover over the pictures. I don’t think my blog does that (or if it does, I don’t know how to set it up that way). 🙂
Thank you, Bun. When you upload a photo, you are given the option to add a caption. When you ’tile’ shots together, the captions stay hidden until the viewer ‘selects’ or hovers over the photo.
Thanks for the tip, Eliza. That’s good to know. It may come in very handy at some point. 🙂
Eliza your day lilies are really lovely especially the one with the striped back
Thank you, Anna. That one is one of my favorites and it is quietly prolific, if you know what I mean!
Who is Anna?!
Okay, now I feel silly! I accessed what I thought was your site via Anca’s site, but it wasn’t on wordpress, but another site, so I thought you had a second blog. It was called DiggingwithDorris, I’m pretty sure, but the intro was signed, ‘Anna.’ Do you have another site, or was I mistaken and confused? (not an uncommon thing, mind you!)
I absolutely love your poppies. Gorgeous. And, I’m so glad to know there is another gardener who doesn’t know the name for every day lily in her garden. Gives me hope. 🙂
Thanks, Judy. There are just too many H. cultivars to remember and tags don’t last all that long in the garden. With Nature’s beauty, labels don’t matter anyway. 🙂
Love the cone flower background and those poppies are amazing. Beautiful post.
Thank you, Denise!
I love your gardening posts! I’m scheming mentally about my space, and your images keep my thoughts moving 🙂
Thank you, Heather! Glad to inspire. 🙂
Such rich variety of simply exquisite flowers ! Congratulations on your garden this summer 😊
Thank you very much! ❤
Exquisite flowers Eliza!
Muchas gracias, Maria!
