A nice, temperate break in the weather mid-week, sandwiched between hot and humid. ‘Tis high summer!

The poppies are almost done, but the bees and I are still loving the last of them.

My love-in-a-mist are long gone as are the poppies. Your purple ones are beautiful–don’t you love the seed heads?
Yes, I’m determined to harvest some pods earlier this year. If I wait, they get moldy and ugly. Too soon and they wither. Timing is everything! 🙂

What a lovely collection. I keep checking my Echinacea but they haven’t opened yet. They struggle a little in our damp climate but I really like them so persist!

There are so many lovely Hemerocallis aren’t there? They grow quite well for me although they have already finished flowering for this year. The nigella is always a joy.
Thank you, Christina. The number of hybrids is staggering with more created every year. I don’t own any of the really fancy ones, but I do admire them when I see them.
The best ones that grow for me are actually the ones I saw growing by the road verges last year in N Carolina. The smaller yellow one H. ‘Stella d’Oro’ also fliers very well.

Another great folk name – lettuce leaf poppy – I haven’t heard that before.
I use it because opium poppy carries too much baggage. 😉

Thank you. Yes, they self-sow every year, I just have to thin them to about a foot apart. They are an big event every July!
