Reminds me of the “moose issue” we have here in Maine, that they’re showing up more and more in our backyards.
But few realize that “our” backyards are their front yards.
Have you ever read Gene Logsdon (The Contrary Farmer)? One of his essays helped me to see how ridiculous our perception is of our “ownership” of Nature. Nature has no boundaries…all is One. The world would be a different place if we all understood this.
No, I haven’t read that book. Not only physical boundaries, but we erect mental/emotional boundaries as well. Maybe it’s our need to compartmentalize everything, so that we feel there’s a sense of order. What we may not get is that there is already order, but our perception of it is less to our liking. Unfortunately.
Yes, our primal fear cuts us off from the very thing we need to survive. When we act out of fear instead of love, we are the losers.
I got seeds for milkweed from the internet 4 years ago and this was the first year we could officially say we were now butterfly ranchers.
That is wonderful! Did you have a lot of butterflies? It does take a while to establish enough milkweed plants to sustain a colony of monarchs. They imprint the area where they are born and subsequent generations will return again and again. Thanks for the comment Charlie.
