About

My first love? Nature. I couldn’t live without my daily immersion, walking in the woods, visiting our waterfall or sitting by the river watching the birds going about their business. It is where I connect to the “peace which passes all understanding.” I have a degree in horticulture, tend too many gardens around my home and garden for a few clients. I blog… and love it, especially enjoying exchanges with this awesome blogging community.

I travelled a bit in my younger days, but like Dorothy said, “There’s no place like home.” So my life revolves around our little sanctuary of 7.5 acres, taking care of the gardens, house and family that fill my heart with gratitude and contentment. I feel truly blessed!

Gardener, writer, photographer, naturalist! Living on seven & one half acres! Bliss! It’s everything I dreamed of when I leave Los Angeles and settle into retirement (which I just began in November). I even considered Massachusetts. I have reconsidered; I don’t think I could handle the cold. But I will be able to enjoy your life via your blog. Thank you for visiting & following – I would not have discovered you otherwise.

    • Eliza Waters says:

Thanks also for the likes and comments, as well as following, your photos are lovely. Yes, it can get pretty cold here, but it can be refreshing if one dresses warmly. Quite different from SoCal! We can offer each other contrasting views. 🙂

Eliza, what a gift to have discovered your comment over on another blog (Kimberly Harding)and find the treasure of your blog here. I’m on a search for balance and in the night thought about trying nature, since nothing else connects. The photos are tremendous and I’ll look forward to studying them. Thank you!

    • Eliza Waters says:

How kind of you! Welcome! Yes, nature is the most powerful of healers for me, can’t live without my daily dose! I recently read an article based on research in England that found there is a micro-bacteria in soil (and circulates in the air) that does the same thing to the brain as Prozac does. Mother Earth loves and takes care of her children! All is balanced in great perfection.

      • Mandy says:

Thank you Eliza! I’m so inspired by that, I’m going to put my rain gear on and take my Labradoodle for a walk around the wetlands. Liquid Prozac today 🙂

      • Eliza Waters says:

I went on your site and read about Joey, sweet guy! I couldn’t find a comment bar…I wanted to tell you about a website called Angel Animals. http://www.angelanimals.net/
Great stories about soul healers doing good work here on earth. I think you’ll like it. The authors most likely have books at your library. Their newest one is called “A Dog Named Leaf.”

      • Mandy says:

Oh dear–I’ve had a problem with comment bars disappearing–I’m new to this blogging business so I may have to do some more homework 🙂
Thank you so much for this website–I’m already chomping at the bit (I took a peek!) A Dog Named Leaf looks like one I want to pick up. I’m reading Saving Grace right now by the two guys who own Three Dog Bakery. Can’t put it down! Our walk was great today 😉

      • Eliza Waters says:

Good, glad you got out in the fresh air, it is wonderful for both head and heart!

      • Mandy says:

Indeed it is! Got me off to a great start today!

Dearest Eliza! All your recent comments on my blog went to the spam folder! I have no idea why, but I know it can happen. I am so so sorry!! 😔. I have unspammed them an replied them, but the reply button in my dashboard did not work so I had to reply from my site. I really hope you will get the notifications! I am really sorry about all this! 😔😔

    • Eliza Waters says:

Thanks for letting me know, Trini. I wrote a post about it to alert folks, but maybe you missed it. Ever since they changed the reader, I’ve had trouble with upgraded sites thinking I’m a spammer. Only when you hit APPROVE and NOT SPAM, will I be able to comment on your sites. Askimet is not helping me at all, so I’ve been trying to contact people site by site, what a pain! Glad you found me at last! ❤

      • Trini Lind says:

Oh, yes! I normally dont check spam, but I was moved to do so today, thank God! 🙏🏻. I will now check it regularly I think, and just ignore those weird real spam messages. I have had biiiig problems after the update too. I still can only comment if I go to the actual sites, and not via the reader. But at least I can comment! 😊. I hope it will all be sorted out soon! 💖

      • Eliza Waters says:

Me, too! Thanks for sticking with me, Trini! 😉

  42. Hi, Eliza… I just stumbled across your blog via Dhamma Footsteps, and your Paradise looks very familiar to me. We live in the Boston area, but spend lots of time in the western part of the state, as well as in Vermont and New Hampshire. We toy with the idea of moving farther out, but ’til then, thanks for letting us live vicariously, wherever you are! I look forward to more of your words and photos. Jeff

    • Eliza Waters says:

Thank you, Jeff. I lived in the Boston area in my 20s, but came ‘home’ to the Hilltowns nearly 30 years ago to raise my kids. I LOVE it here. No crowds and lots of nature. What’s not to love? 😉 Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  43. What a beauty of a hatchling and so perfect! What an enlightening and informative post, thank you Eliza. I also watched the excellent documentary you suggested to Sue and I’ve come away full of awe for these remarkable creatures! Like how does the fourth generation in Canada have the imprint to navigate all the way to Mexico and the next three travel back in stages! Quite wondrous! Rock on all those who are making the difference in aiding their population recovery.

  44. Hey Eliza, I found you through your like on a blog post that I follow. I just randomly clicked on your pic and that led me here. I feel like I wandered aimlessly and found just the right place to stop by. Happy to be following your journey through your blog.
7.5 acres of land and did I read a waterfall and a river too… Eternal Bliss…
