In A Vase on Monday – Creamy White

flower arrangementThis week, I decided to combine all my white (or close to white) flowers into my arrangement. My Italian bunny jug seemed like a good choice, its pale yellow complements all, especially the few blooms of ‘Italian White’ Sunflowers (Helianthus annuus), which curiously, only turn creamy-white as they age.

In addition, there are Spider Flowers (Cleome hassleriana), Flowering Tobacco (Nicotiana alata), Garlic Chives (Allium tuberosum), Garden Phlox (P. paniculata) and Dahlia ‘Little Lamb.’flower arrangementIn A Vase on MondayΒ is a weekly meme hosted by Cathy at Rambling in the Garden. Ah WHITE! My favorite!

    • Eliza Waters's avatar Eliza Waters says:

White flowers offer calm in the garden, a place for the eye to rest.

      • tonytomeo's avatar tonytomeo says:

?! I just like the color. I am none too proficient with aesthetics. I just happen to prefer white. It does not work for everything of course, and there are many flowers that just look best in other colors, such as nasturtiums, sunflowers and crape myrtles. I use it where I can, and really, it does happen to work well in the sunny but ‘visually dark’ spots around redwood forests.

You show us that white can often only be appreciated with a backdrop of color. Spot on for these times Eliza. and lovely.

  4. Anne's avatar Anne says:

I always look forward to your flower arrangements, especially now when I have no cutting flowers at all in my garden.

  5. A beautiful flower arrangement, and love the vase.

Beautiful arrangement, and that Italian bunny jug goes so well with the flowers!

You have a real talent for arranging flowers, Eliza. This is another glorious combination of flowers, and just as beautiful as the bright coloured arrangements you often show us. πŸ™‚

  12. What a beautiful combination! This arrangement is marvellous.

Eliza: you have so many flowers! The ‘Italian White Sunflower is so different. The vase is pretty with the funny bunny.

  15. So very lovely! Calming and elegant, and the vase provides a dash of color and playfulness.

These are all lovely choices for your bunny vase. White phlox has been short-lived in my garden so I am pleased it’s doing well for you.

    • Eliza Waters's avatar Eliza Waters says:

Thank you, Susie. I have to deal with powdery mildew on the phlox, but this year, it looks like my diligence has paid off as there is little PM. Phlox really carries the garden this time of year as the annuals begin to fade.

    Delicious, creamy arrangement!

  18. That arrangement is the most beautiful thing I’ve seen today, and since I’m partial to bunnies this was a spectacular post for me. πŸ™‚

I love the white bouquet, Eliza. It has great impact. I rarely (if ever) have enough white flowers to pull off an arrangement like that. I must make a note to try growing the white sunflower next year.

  20. naturebackin's avatar naturebackin says:

Lovely arrangement and enhanced by the colours of the jug as you say. It shows what a variable ‘colour’ white actually is, as well as the touches of cream.

It is just like a bridal bouquet! So pretty, dainty and feminine! Just lovely! Amanda https://therunningwave.blogspot.com/2020/09/a-simple-vase-on-monday

  22. I think you made that bunny happier! πŸ˜‰ Beautiful bouquet!
    Happy Monday! xoxo

This one surprised me – at this time of year I expect to see your strong late summer colours and then you give us a vase of delicate beauties:)

  26. Meg's avatar Meggie K. says:

The flowers coordinate so well with the vase – just lovely!

    Cheers, Meg

  27. Cathy's avatar Cathy says:

A delicious mix Eliza. πŸ˜ƒ I mustvgrow extra. leome just for cutting next year as they do look magnificent in a vase. πŸ˜ƒ Do you save your seed and sow in spring or just let them seed themselves?

    • Eliza Waters's avatar Eliza Waters says:

Thanks, Cathy. I give lots of Cleome seed away (to ANY takers, ha!) and let them self sow, as they do so reliably. I try to keep the patches separate (pink and white, seems the purple didn’t make the lottery from last year) so I have an idea of what colours I have. They do sometimes cross, so some are bi-colour.

  28. Love the Italian bunny jug and arrangement and it’s wonderful to know by the flowers in the background that vase season is not close to being over!πŸ™‚

    • Eliza Waters's avatar Eliza Waters says:

Thank you, Susan. I was strolling the beds today and realized that there are many flowers that I’ve not even shown yet. This cooler weather is slowing the annuals down– I am wishing I could slow time down instead!

  29. Oh, that’s so nice. ❀

  30. susurrus's avatar susurrus says:

Your bunny jug made me chuckle. Lovely flowers too.

  31. Jewels's avatar Jewels says:

    Delightful Eliza!

  32. Love the bunny pot. And love what’s in it. Beautiful arrangement as always, Eliza!

  33. There’s a natural tendency in some DYCs (darn yellow composites) for the ray florets to go from yellow to white as they age. It seems like the hybrid you showed plays up that familial tendency.

  34. Jet Eliot's avatar Jet Eliot says:

Ahh, what an elegant and pleasing arrangement, Eliza. I always like mono-color arrangements in vases and gardens, and here with the numerous textures you sparked it nicely. Also, fun vase. Cheers to you, Eliza.

  35. Lovely arrangement Eliza – simplicity at its best.
