I’ve added another couple photos to show the continual changes that happen in winter around these parts.
The slideshow illustrates how things can change dramatically at our waterfall in winter. Last Thursday the temperatures rose a little above freezing reaching the mid-30s F, after weeks of icy temperatures. Then came heavy rain on Friday with a high of 48F, clearing on Saturday with temperatures dropping rapidly to below freezing within hours.
The last photo shows two days of frigid temps solidifying the stream and waterfall again. It is a beautiful sight. Snow is forecast this afternoon, so the view will change once again. The vagaries of winter, indeed.
The second stem of my Hippeastrum ‘Apple Blossom’ bloomed beautifully with the sun glittering upon its spun sugar petals and illuminating its lovely green throat. Such a delight on a cold winter’s day.

Solstice Greetings to all!
The post box at the end of the driveway gets a beribboned swag for the holidays, made with Fraser fir (Abies fraseri), White pine (Pinus strobus), Threadleaf False Cypress (Chamaecyparis pisifera ‘Sungold’) and Winterberry (Ilex verticillata). Holiday greetings to all!
