Dahlia ‘Debra Renae’ is a bold, beautiful red with a dark striped edge, giving it a shadowy look. Also in the vase: burgundy Dahlia ‘Voodoo’, gloriosa daisies (Rudbeckia hirta), pink blush flowering tobacco (Nicotiana alata), white and pink spider flower (Cleome hassleriana) and purple Verbena bonariensis.
A second vase holds cigar plant (Cuphea ignea) and Dahlia ‘ Giggles’ (in profile) and ‘Debra Renae’.

Such lovely arrangements! Are these flowers actually in bloom in your garden right now? If so, that is very cool mid-October.
Thanks, Maria. These were cut last week before our first frost. So no more dahlias, alas. 😢
Such awesome dahlias. Voodoo is rad also!
Thanks, Tony. ‘Voodoo’ is probably my favorite red, such compact perfection!
You have a wide selection of flowers that must provide a great deal of joy in your garden 🙂
Thank you, Anne. That they do, I go into withdrawal at the end of the summer, I miss them so much! 😀
The various red dahlias are showstoppers! I think they benefit from being mellowed by other, quieter flowers.
Thank you, Tanja. I love their drama!
Oh my! These are sooooo beautiful!!!
Thank you, Dawn! 🙂
I can’t help it. A flower named ‘Giggles’ gives me the giggles, however bold and dramatic its appearance!
It’s a great name, for sure. I wonder how it came by that name? 🙂
Dang, that’s a lot of posts! Did WordPress alert you to that number?
It is wonderful that you still have so many lovely flowers to choose from in October. How late in the year do you usually still have blooms to enjoy? Does it depend on when the first hard frost arrives?
1,700 — WOW indeed!! Dahlias are really going gang busters this October aren’t they?
❤️💜🧡💛💚🤗
Wonderful Dahlias! I’ll try to grow them in my backyard, in an enclosed area so that the deer leave them alone.
Congratulations Eliza on your achievement. That’s impressive and shows your curiosity, knowledge and dedication. I like Dahlia ‘Debra Renae’ very much. She’s beautiful.
Gosh, that’s a striking dahlia taking centre stage at the front of your vase, and she has a pleasing chorus to back her up. Aren’t we lucky tto still have such bright and cheery blooms in our gardens well into October?
My goodness that is a huge milestone. One to be celebrated. The vases are both gorgeous. I love the color combos with the variety of flowers.
Splashy as your first arrangement is, the second one is my favorite. I love that color mix. However, I’m also envious of the Rudbeckia in your first vase – I invested in one a couple of weeks ago, only to have it fry during last week’s miserable heatwave 😦
That red dahlia is stunning. Reminded of the old adage “If you’ve got it, flaunt it.”
Absolutely! Thanks, Laurie. 🙂
Congratulations on your 1,700 posts; quite an accomplishment. Wonderful last flowers of the seasons. (Suzanne)
P.S. we are back from our trip to Madagascar; we should start posting soon.
Thank you, Suzanne. I am envious of your travels, can’t wait to read about them! 👍🏼
What a scene stealer that dahlia is 😊. Beautiful displays, Eliza!
Thank you, Belinda. She’s definitely an eye-catcher!
1,700? Wow! Congratulations! That is staying power Eliza! 🤣 That is such a lovely dahlia – just what a dahlia should be, making a statement with its blousy petals and vivid colour. Love your Rudbeckia too.
Thank you, Cathy! 🙂
Beautiful vases Eliza and congratulations with your 1700th post! 💖🎉✨️ xxx
Thank you, Xenia! 💕
ohh, I still love voodoo! Your Cuphea always looks better than what I can grow here! What’s the vase? it’s cute. Happy 1700! that is a lot! wow.
Thanks, Amy. The vase was a gift from my sister, Minton china 1987. Have I really had it that long?? 😀
I love the deep red in the first photo. It reminds me of David Austin Rose, Munstead wood. One of my regrets and leaving New Mexico was leaving all my roses. But I’m confident the kids who bought the place are going to enjoy them, not only that but they will take care of them! 🙏🌈
Thank you, Bela. I admire David Austin roses, but have never planted one. Not a fan of thorny plants!
Right! 🤗🌈
1700 posts, holy moly! Way to go!
🙂 Thanks, Julie! Two to three a week over 13 years adds up!
Congratulations on #1700!! That’s amazing.
That red dahlia is sensational.
Thank you, Monika! 🙂
Congratulations! And for the dahlias too. 👏😆
Thank you, Flavia! 🙂
Wonderful! I like the big bloom energy in each!
Thanks much, Denise!
Congrats on the 1,700th post! Beautiful arrangements as always.
Thank you, Tom!
