Wordless Wednesday – View Beyond the Oxbow

Aw…time for a trip “out west”. 🙂
Yes! Hawk migration peaks this coming week or so, worth the trip!
Expansive 🌿🧡
Yes! The trails provide a nearly 360º view, quite beautiful, lovely on a good day.
Amazing. 🧡
Imagine having a house on that spot Eliza, you’d never finish anything in the yard because you would keep stopping and enjoying the view 🤗❤️🙏
Indeed, but the wind blows quite fiercely there and winter it is downright miserable!
Ah, its one of those places. I’ve got one of those. Great views but those winds of which you speak chill your bones all winter then the sun cooks it all summer as it faces directly into the setting sun 🥵🥶❤️🙏
Yup, sounds the same!
Fab view
Thanks, Sheree, it was well worth the trip!
One of my favorite places in the world, for several reasons, is Moon Lake, Mississippi. It’s an oxbow lake, and a fascinating bit of geography. Has this oxbow formed any lakes along its length? It’s a beautiful sight, regardless.
Thank you, Linda. Everything in this view was once a prehistoric Pleistocene lake, Lake Hitchcock https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Hitchcock
Also close by are dinosaur tracks from the Jurassic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinosaur_Footprints_Reservation Fascinating natural history!
What a beautiful view Eliza and such a glorious day! 🌿🩵🍃 xxx
Thank you, Xenia. The view was grand that day. 😍
Life looks so good below from that vantage point.
I love all the farmland, a very productive valley.
It’s beautiful for sure. I collected a bunch of seed for you and then I read they may be all pink I hope that doesn’t happen to them 😦 I am going to add them to envelopes and get them out to you. Then you will have seed as soon as snow melts 🙂
Thanks, Eunice! Anything I can send you?
Do you have any Nicotine(a), black seeds if I remember right it was my dad’s favorite but truly no necessary 🙂
I have several: pink, lime green and white N. alata and huge N. sylvestris that takes up a lot of space at 5-6′ tall (might look nice with the backhouse daisies!
I love the idea of tall white ones as the moon over the river shines in that area ❤ Praying the bees did not mess with my cream colored beauties for your garden in the new year I will let you know when they hit the mail.
So tranquil. Was interesting to look that up.
It is a great state park and the view has been widely painted since the 1800s. Great place to view hawk migration, too.
What a gorgeous view!
Thanks, Dale. One of the best days for a visit!
No kidding!
An amazing view that seems to go on forever. 😊
Thank you, Pepper. It was a brilliantly clear day!
🙌🏼🤗💚love it!
Thank you, Susan. 🙂
Such a lovely view. Happy Wordless Wednesday.
Thank you, Monika! 💚
Exquisite! Did you burst into song?
Ha, maybe I should have! 😉
A bucolic scene. 🙂
Thank you, Tina. My happy valley. 🙂
What a view! Fine shot, Eliza.
Thank you, Belinda!
A view that goes on forever. 🙂
It felt like that!
A serene setting.
Thank you, Rupali. Lots of wonderful farms in the valley, such great bounty!
A great view… you must be able to see for miles. I had to look up Oxbow. Wikipedia tells me it is in Northampton… the name of my hometown in the UK!
Thank you, Cathy. At least 50 miles that day, it was so clear we could see Vermont and New Hampshire peaks. Fun coincidence about Northampton! I lived there for 10 years from age 12, before moving to the Boston area. But moved back to the area like a homing pigeon. 😉
What a grand vista, and a fascinating place. The sky is amazing.
Thanks, Tom. It was a perfect day for a visit.
There’s a view I’m familiar with!
Yes, a great day for a visit… the hawks are passing through. 🙂
Such a beautiful country.
Thank you, Flavia. I live up in the hill country off to the left. 🙂
Nothing like hiking up (or driving) to a place with such a view – invites the soul just to sit down and take it all in 😊! Beautiful shot, Eliza.
Thank you, it’s a great spot to observe and let the world go by. 🙂
A very beautiful view indeed! I love this landscape.
Thank you, Maria!
Is this the oxbow that Thomas Cole showed in his famous painting?
Yes, it is! 🙂
In the art appreciation class that we were required to take in college I wrote a paper in which the painting played a prominent part.
After nearly 200 years, it is expected that the river has evolved/changed. It is predicted that eventually the river will straighten and the oxbow will cease to exist.
I think we’ll have ceased to exist before the oxbow has.
One doesn’t mind working up a sweat when this view is the reward!
Indeed, and lots of folks take the hike… it is a very popular destination.
Hawk migration peaks this week! 👍🏼
How amazing that you can watch the migration from this spot.
The birds float close by at eye level, very cool!
