Silent Sunday – Icy Clematis

This is a very interesting picture in the sunshine!
During sunny days, the sun warms the roof and more snow melts… then it freezes on the way down. And of course, nights drop well below freezing. Icicles are interesting subjects!
It’s not long before it’s time to wake up!
Yes!! 👍🏼
Great shot
Thank you, Sheree… spring is making its way to us. 🙂
Finally
Even the leaves got caught in the ice. The snow also has interesting coloring.
Thanks, yes, I love the blue shadows in the the snow.
So many growing icicles, everywhere. Is that under roof-drips?
Yes, from the eaves. We’re heading to spring. 🙂
Those must be strong stems to hold the weight of that ice. It’s pretty, though.
Thank you, Barbara. It is surprising that it is holding up!
I suppose the good news is that icicles like that are a sign of occasional melting.
Yes, solar gain is increasing as we creep a few degrees above freezing daily. We’re getting there!
It felt like a strong sun here yesterday, I hope you had the same!
Thanks, Frank. We got a sunny day today… I guess we are a day behind you. I relish the clear days! 🌞
wow- this looks like our yard now. thanks for sharing all this beauty
Thank you, they grow overnight, then melt during the day endlessly!
That icicle manages to look beautiful and a little dangerous at the same time!

Thanks, Kris. They can be dangerous, one never wants to be under one!
Oh, the ice!! ✨
I am ready for it all to melt, though I think it’ll be a while yet. 🙂
Our snowman’s going fast but I think you may be right. ☺️
Oh wow … the thumbnail pic had me all wrong. Thought I was looking at bit of roof and sky. It all makes sense now I’ve clicked through to the real photo 🤣. I love to see icicles!
Thanks, Allison. It was a really long one, too. 🙂
Quite the icicle! We are warm and dry here. Could reach record high temps in the 70’s!
Oh, my, I have forgotten what that kind of warmth feels like, enjoy!
Brrr, but I see sunshine! 😁
Yes, I can deal with the cold so long as the sun is shining. 🌞
Mother Nature’s winter art!
Thanks, Dale. We hang onto the beauty of winter the best we can. 😉
Beautiful!! 💖
Thank you, Diana. It was dazzling in the morning light. 🙂
Frozen in time….
For sure!! 🙂
Love the crisp details. That’s quite an icicle!
Thanks, Tom. I am glad to report is diminishing daily!
How pretty! Best of all, it tells me that Spring finally is on its way!
Thank you, I am happy the days are now above freezing and the sun feels warm at last. 🌞
A lovely photo! Hard to believe they’ll be in bloom before too long.
Thank you, Belinda. Four months to go to see this plant covered in blooms!
Even though we need real cold winters and they provide so much beauty, milder times ahead must feel tantalizing after such icy times!
Yes, we have four seasons here and it’s good, but this winter has been esp. cold and that feels challenging at times!
That’s an intresting spot for such a large icicle!
Dripping from the eave and freezing on the vine that I have wired up. It sparkles in the morning sun, but only can be seen through a dirty window that I’m too lazy to clean! 😀
With our current landscape such as it is I try to remind myself it is time to rest and dream. You should have seen my house with it’s icicles 🙂
Today’s warm-up was encouraging. This icicle disappeared!
Wow we didn’t get warm enough 😦
Ooooh…shiver. Here’s hoping it starts to warm up there. 🤞🏼
Thanks, Monika. It hit 40º today, quite thrilling! 😉
Yay! that’s awesome and a great way to start the week!
❄️⛄️🤍
Thanks, Val. Easing into warmer days!
Easing and patience too…. Breathe well as we open up and transition 🥰
I know some people in Truckee who are very busy right now with snow removal!
Oh, yeah. The winter has finally begun in earnest. We were getting worried there for a while.
Magical!
🙂 Thanks, Laurie!
I much prefer clematis in bloom over clemat-ice! 😉
Ditto! 🙂
