Wordless Wednesday – From A Bygone Era
This entry was posted in Country Living, My Photos and tagged horse plow, horse-powered farming, photography, Wordless Wednesday. Bookmark the permalink.

Indeed a past era Eliza. I bet it rattled the bones too…as well as the posterior 🤣❤️🙏
Oh, yeah. It may look romantic, but ugh, it was a rough ride. 🙂
Such a contrast, Eliza.
Yes, it is a cool thing to see on our daily walk. 🙂
Ooh, that seat looks so uncomfortable! LOL!
IKR? 😀
Aww the stories it could tell Eliza! 🤍 xxx
Yes, indeed. We are reminded daily as we pass it on our trail. 🙂
My father used to have a plough like this 🙂
Our property was part of a large dairy farm and there were many horse-drawn implements here and there on the property when we moved in 35 years ago. Only this and a rake are left as a reminder of those days.
The miles of furrows it must have made. A well-deserved resting time for the plough. A very nice capture with the snow.
Thank you, Alice!
Thanks for the smile because I remember my grandfather having similar farm implements.
Thanks, Judy. We still have a horse-powered farm here in town and it is amazing to watch those big Belgians work. Gentle giants!
I love this shot, its simplicity and reminder of the past is just perfect. Well done, Eliza!
Thank you, Tina! 🙂
Nostalgic — a reminder of bygone days and something enduring…
Thank you, Susan. It is very slowly returning to earth, VERY slowly!
Just lovely. Snow softens everything, even the hard edges of the past!
Thank you, Linda. The outline of snow helps it stand out a bit more than it does the rest of the year.
We’ve got a few of those, randomly in the woods of some of our local parks that used to be farmland.
I imagine there are castoffs all across rural America and beyond.
Lovely contrast of light and shadows.
Thank you, Pepper. The snow helps it stand out from the otherwise brown background. A relic!
Oh, nice! What is it about rusty equipment in the snow? Wonderful contrast.
Thank you, Laurie! 💕
I love photos of old things abandoned in the snow! Lovely image, Eliza.
Thank you, Dale. Imagine the tale it could tell!
Yes! And I came thisclose to sharing a something in a field (not sure if it was a broken sled, or what) in today’s WW!
There was a sled once, but the wood has rotted, leaving behind the metal, and a manure spreader, too… my spouse dismantled it when the boys were young. He worried they’d hurt themselves playing on it!
Oh yes. Best to take it apart – boys find enough ways to hurt themselves!
😀
It’s photogenic as well as historic, although I wouldn’t want to ride it!

Rural art now, hehe. 😉
Looks at home there in the snow!
It has probably sat there for over 70 years!
We have seen SO much old farm equipment from coast to coast and in Hawaii. I wonder how much of it still exists, worldwide? 😀
What I wonder is what the collective weight of all that iron?! This one is rusted up and can’t be moved easily, so it stays.
And so they all stay, I think! We had them on our New Mexico ranch as well. Did we move them? Does anybody? 😂
Not since the steel drives of WWII, I imagine.
You know Eliza, I bet you’re right!
It is junk, but beautiful. I once found a piece of old equipment with an old-fashioned pink rose growing over it.
Thanks, a piece of nostalgic art!
Have someone in your family used it at some point?
No, our property was once part of a farm, the land parceled and sold in the 50s/60s. This plow dates from back then.
I see.
A nice look back! I wonder when it saw regular use.
Late 40s/early 50s I imagine. This parcel was sold and the house was built in ’57.
Nice reminder that the “good old days” often weren’t that “good”! I expect that old thing has a lot of stories to tell though.
I imagine so. Farmers have always worked very hard, and still do, praise them!
Beautiful composition, Eliza. But I will admit I’m chilled to the bone taking it all in. Brrrr.
Thank you, Monika. Down coat, fur mitts and Sorels make it all doable!
One thing is for sure, I got too used to the 60’s & 70’s of late! Stay warm.
