Cathy at Rambling in the Garden, who hosts the weekly garden meme In A Vase On Monday (featuring flower arrangements from our gardens), celebrates her 12th anniversary of the meme this week. She suggests a theme annually for gardeners to join in celebrating with her. This year she has chosen Puns and Props, something she enjoys including in her weekly offerings all year through. (Click the link to join the fun or see what others are sharing this week.)
The pun I chose is: “Geology rocks, but geography is where it’s at!” My props are two geode crystals, amethyst and citrine, and an atlas open to the UK, where our host lives.

My arrangement was collected from my yard and trails, seeking out colorful foliage, fruit and seed heads. I happily cut invasive plants– euonymous, privet, barberry, burning bush and bittersweet, which all show beautiful autumn foliage. Also included: raspberry leaves, dried hydrangea flowers, Japanese anemone, goldenrod and coneflower seed heads.
Thank you, Cathy, for twelve years of hosting this addictive meme and connecting flower lovers and gardeners all over the globe.

Your fall arrangement is most beautiful and your post so well thought out.
Thank you, Maria. Fortunately, she gives us time to prepare for a theme. My mind has to work on it!
Well done, Eliza. I enjoy the parade of arrangements through the seasons.
Thank you, Audrey!
Well, it certainly is autumnish. I am unfamiliar with (that particular) euonymus, (that particular) privet, burning bush and bittersweet.
Thanks, Tony. I would say all our worst invasive plants originate in Asia and are spread by birds eating their berries. The rate of spread is staggering, with profound effects on our native habitat.
A very pretty arrangement indeed 🙂
Thank you, Anne!
They all speak well kind lady, wherever they live 🤗❤️🙏
Thank you, Mark. 🙂
A fine response
Thank you, Derrick. 🙂
You are so creative with nature’s offerings.
Aw, thanks, Alice. Lots to play with out there!
You bring autumn to an absolute flourish with this floral arrangement, Eliza. I like the salute too–12 years is a long time!
Thank you, Jet. It is a fun meme. 🙂
This arrangement is beautiful, and the very essence of autumn. Color isn’t only for the trees at this time of year!
Thank you, Linda. I think I enjoy the fall color more on the smaller shrubs and perennials than the big splashy trees that seem to garner more attention.
Your fall foliage vases are very attractive! I recently read about citrine geodes but have only seen amethyst—fun to see the citrine.
Thanks to Cathy for this delightful meme. I have enjoyed it so much over the years.
Thank you, Ellen. I enjoy the weekly challenge to my creativity, as well as the companionship of other gardeners. A fun one!
Lovely, as usual. We had our first snow yesterday, a bit early this year! (Suzanne)
Thank you, Suzanne. Luckily, the first snow melts. I’m not ready yet for the lasting cold. 🙂
We didn’t get much snow (less than forecasted) and it is melting. However, the temperatures are much colder than it should be at this time of the year…It is too early for snow and cold!!!
I’ve never had much interesting in floral/plant arrangements for myself, but I love this blog meme, it’s a favorite of mine. I so enjoy the creative work that goes into your posts/photos, as well as other. Onward to another 12–and more–years!
Thank you, Tina! There are some who have year round gardens, but I have so little of interest in the cold months I get bored with the lack of choice. 😀
A glorious collection of autumn matrials Eliza. And I know Cathy will like your prop, being knowledgeable about stones and rocks herself. 👍
Thank you, Cathy!
Your arrangement is lovely, but my eye is captured by the amethyst and citrine. My late dad was a geologist, so rocks (especially glittery ones!) are my weakness. Congrats to Cathy for a successful dozen years of this meme!
Thank you, Debbie. Geology is fascinating, you must have learned a lot from him. 🙂
Your props are very creative including the map.
Thank you!
Despite my interest in Geology and Geography I have never to my knowledge heard that phrase before, Eliza, so thanks for sharing it 👍 I love your theme of course, because I have a roomful (well, not full) of crystals and rocks and I adore maps too – on yours, we are towards the bottom right hand corner, not far from the geographical center of England, actually. I had to smile at the thought of you happily snipping invasive plants and the contents of your vase are a great example of why blooms are not essential in a vase. Thanks so much for joining in today
Thank you, Cathy. I can’t cut enough of those invasives, but I still try!
😂
Very apt in pun and props, Eliza! Kudos to you for taking advantage of your fall color to fill a vase too.

Thank you, Kris. I really had to pull out the stops for this one. 😀
Nice one Eliza, it is all about connections, and I have been out of it for a few weeks. I feel like an old fossil, having had an infection for several weeks. I have enjoyed looking in this week and particularly admire your seasonal arrangement.
Thank you, Noelle. I hope you recover quickly, no fun being under the weather. 💕
Great post. I love your clever pun and the joy this meme has brought to you and many others.
Thank you, Alys. It’s a fun and addictive meme!
Lovely!
Thank you, Rupali!
While I love your fall vase and how creative you are with its contents, it’s the amethyst and citrine that steal my attention! My late dad was a geologist, so rocks (especially glittery ones!) are near and dear to my heart!
Thank you, Debbie. I’ve loved glittery stones all my life, guess we’re part magpie! 😀
LOL!!!!
Wonderful props and pun in response to Cathy’s theme. The colorful vase is perfect for autumn.
Thank you, Susie. Not much to choose from at this point, but I was able to at least get some color in there.
Ohh, wonderful toasty fall colors and creative props. My Dad was a geology professor – so I love the rocks.
Thank you, Amy. Crystals are wonders of nature. 🙂
Such lovely seasonal arrangements, Eliza!
Thank you, Belinda! 🙂
Props to your pun – you’ve made yourself crystal clear. And the arrangements are perfect for fall.
Thank you, Tom!
Such cool combinations of colors and textures! I love a good pun – nicely done!
Thank you, K. I love cutting down those darned invasives!
I like your pun…and props…and arrangement!
Many thanks, Beth!
What a glorious autumnal display Eliza and I’m sure that Cathy would have appreciated the crystals 😀 A brilliant pun.
Thank you, Anna!
Those reds are just gorgeous!
Thank you, Monika! 🍁
A wonderful response to the challenge and an interesting vase of seed heads.
Thank you, Linda!
A lovely combination of nature’s autumn.
Thank you, Flavia!
How did I miss this one? Love the pun and the bouquet!
Thank you, Dale! Better late than never. 😉
Indeed!!
You’re so clever, Eliza. And your arrangement gorgeous, as always!
Thank you very much, Jane! 🙂
