I love this photo, Eliza. Last month in my hometown, I saw a black dahlia in my Moms garden that my sister had given her, and it was in bloom, and it was stunning. Small, maybe could go unnoticed, but so rich. I’m happy to relive this memory this morning 😂🙏🏻.

    Hi Eliza.

Wow. Debora must have been quite a character. I’d love to have something as exuberant as that named after me.

Yes, one does wonder about who these flowers are named after. Explorers (male mostly) named the Latin after themselves, i.e., Poinsettia, etc. Breeders seem to favor women/children in their lives. 🙂

  21. Do you live where you have to dig up and store your tubers over the winter? If so, where do you keep them?

    • Eliza Waters's avatar Eliza Waters says:

Yes, it is too cold here. After the first frost I cut them back and let them sit for a week or so. Then I fork them up, hose them off and dry them in the garage for 24 hours. Next I cut them up, discarding the broken pieces, decide what I want and what to give away. All get wrapped in newspaper and put in paper bags. They are stored in my garage which stays around 40º except in January, when it can drop to before freezing and must be moved into the cellar until it warms again. A cooler can help insulate them as well.

  22. Oh my word, does Revlon know about this shade of red? Stunning!

  23. Stunning. The flower looks like it has been cut from velvet. 🌹
