Summer is here with all its delicious offerings, and what color shouts ‘Summer!’ better than sunny yellow?

Yellow bush pea (Thermopsis villosa), sundrops (Oenothera fruticosa L. ssp. tetragona) and yellow loosestrife (Lysimachia punctata) accompanied by oxeye daisies (Leucanthemumm vulgare) and feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium). Blue spires of catmint (Nepeta racemosa) provide accent.

That’s a lovely combination of different colors and shapes and heights, Eliza. I hope the bouquet will bring you cheer all week long.
Thank you, Tanja. I love to have a vase or two around the house to have the garden flowers up close to enjoy. These are pleasantly long-lasting, too.
Long-lasting is good.
So pretty! 💛
Thank you, Michele!
Beautiful! Definitely yellow is the colour for sweet summer days. 🌻
Thank you, Flavia!
Ah, Thermopsis villosa! I remember this from last year, perhaps here. It looks like a lupine to me.
Yes, one of its nicknames is Carolina lupine. I don’t know why we don’t see it cultivated more.
Does it last for only a few years and then die ugly? That is why the native bush lupine is not popular for home gardens within its native range. Although we do not remove those that perform well on the perimeters of refined gardens, we do not move any into more refined areas. Besides, it is difficult to relocate or grow in containment to put into the garden. If Thermopsis villosa is similarly difficult to grow, nurseries may not want to bother with it.
Yes, I think you are right about why nurseries don’t bother with it. It only travels hand to hand it seems.
Once established, it increases slowly and lasts forever. Pretty much disease and pest free. Great plant!
Oh, so it is more sustainable than bush lupine!
Yes indeed Eliza, yellow is the light of life 🤗❤️🙏
Thanks, Mark. 🙂
Oh Yeah, baby!! 🌼🤌🏻☀️🌻😎💛
😀 Glad you liked, thanks much! 😎
Lovely!
Thank you, Rupali!
Hi Eliza. Simply stunning.
MJ
Merci, MJ!
Gorgeous
Merci!
Gorgeous yellows Eliza, what a sparkling vase! 💛✨️ xxx
Thank you, Xenia. That crackle-glass vase is from the ’40s, I think it was a wedding gift to my parents. One of my favorites. 🙂
Super sunny, smiley. Sundrops are a wonderful flower…spotted one in the middle of ferns a few days ago, on the north side of the house, the others are on the south side, coming up in the brick patio.
Thank you, Alice. Sundrops do manage to spread quite readily, but are thankfully easy to manage and their cheerful flowers make them welcome most of the time. The ultimate passalong plant!
Very sunny against the green background.
Thank you, with all the rain we’ve had, it is very green here!
Very bright and sunny!
Thank you, Debra! Stay cool through this heat. 🥵
That means staying inside mostly, which I intend to do! Dogs get walked early am and after sunset. Quick potty breaks in between. I’m hoping it is just this week that we will have this high heat, and maybe back to something more sensible next week. Hoping.
🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
Your bouquet does look like the very essence of summer!
Thank you, Linda!
So beautiful! How lovely to have such bounty in your garden!
Thank you! After 35 years of gardening, a bounty I do get to enjoy. 🙂
You are so right! Nothing says summer better than the colour yellow! Beautiful arrangement, Eliza.
Thank you, Dale!
😊
Beautiful bouquets, Eliza! I never thought of using sundrops as a cut flower, I sure have enough of it! And nothing like a little blue catmint to jazz up the yellow.
Thank you, Lynn. It is a long-lasting cut-flower, dropping older flower buds, but not too messy.
That’s good to know, thank you Eliza!
💛💜💚delightful artistry! 🤩
Thank you, Susan!
Lovely. My daisies are about to bloom as are a few of my other flowers but your flowers are a bit ahead of ours…(Suzanne)
Merci, Suzanne. Summer is the best!
🍀🍀🍀
Grazie!
Nothing is more cheerful than a yellow and white arrangement, Eliza. The blue stems add an extra touch of panache. I hope your weather is as lovely as it looks in your top photo!

Thank you, Kris. Hotter than Hades out there… we’re on day 2 of a four-day heat wave complete with heat advisories. Thank goodness for AC!
What a delightful arrangement Eliza, those whites and yellows and also the green foliage are just right for bringing the garden inside.
Thank you, Noelle. I’m loving bringing the garden inside, as it is terribly hot outside for the next few days.
What a beautiful combination. Thanks for sharing the beauty!
Thank you, Beth!
Wow….a fantastic arrangement!
Thank you, Sandy!
Welcome!
I don’t know that bush pea, although from what people say it doesn’t seem to be widely available. Is it well behaved? Yellow and blue and white make for such a fresh summery vase, so thanks for sharing this Eliza
Thank you, Cathy. Apparently, nurseries aren’t able to grow this viably commercially. It doesn’t transplant easily, but once established, it spreads slowly and lasts forever. Not sure how it grows from seed as I usually deadhead it after bloom.
Interesting to know, thanks Eliza
A spectacular arrangement set off by your lovely vase 😊
Thank you very much, Belinda!
That’s simply gorgeous Eliza! The sundrops are a lovely rich yellow, and the background is so lush and green! 😁
Thank you, Cathy. We’ve had so much rain, everything is lush and green!
I love the backdrop! The vase is very summery filled with the classic blue, white and yellow color scheme! Has the heat wave gotten to you yet?
Thank you, Amy. That is the path out to the waterfall just beyond the trees.
You’ll laugh, but I only lasted 45 minutes this morning at about 80º – 80% rH. I was drenched!
Even the birds are laying low, poor things.
I am laughing! It was that temperature here this morning and I thought it was cool! Now you’re laughing!
😉
What a nice summer vibe! I think blue with yellow is one of my favorites 🙂
…and the feverfew is cute, I have the double and it’s nice in a different way but not as “cute”
Thank you, Frank! I do love the mini-daisies of feverfew and they are so long-lasting as a cut flower. As well they go with just about anything, great filler!
Summer, summer, sumer! Love it!
Thank you, Laurie!
Lovely colour combos and many familiar to me! I definitely think I need a yellow lupin now. Must start some more!
Oops Carolina Bush Pea – I re read! I don’t know this plant but must be a rellie of Lupins!! I will read more about it.
Thank you, Jenny. It is in the pea family with the characteristic 3-lobed leaves and pea flower, but not a lupine. I received it as a division decades ago, but I think it would be easy enough from seed.
A pretty explosion of summery yellow!
Thank you, Barbara! 🧡
I sure enjoyed this exquisite summer bouquet, Eliza. My eyes followed the spiral of daisies all the way up, giving it such action. And your lovely garden in the background adds to the summer celebration.
Thank you, Jet. Between rain and the recent heat, things are growing like mad!
Mine has swung to yellows as well. Stay cool it is nasty outside.
Just hit 100º in the shade… one more day to go. 🥵
Stay safe!
Lovely yellows.
Thank you, Pepper! Hope all is well with you and you are enjoying the unfolding summer.
Hi, Eliza. Things are busy but going well in Michigan. Summer means more time with our granddaughter and that is the best fun ever! 😁
So beautiful and so very summery! Even if it’s a Wednesday. 😉
Thank you, Monika!
I just love the arrangement this week, looks like a happy summer party in a vase!!😎
Nice compliment, thank you! 🙂
Yellow and purple are one of my favorite combos. Drama meets Cheer 😀 lovely vase.
Thank you, Alys!
Lovely 🙂
Thank you, Deepa!
Welcome 😃
