In my opinion, peonies (Paeonia lactiflora) are the elegant queen of the June garden. In this week’s vase, her courtiers pale in comparison– Veronica austriaca subsp. teucrium ‘Crater Lake Blue’, lady’s mantle (Alchemilla mollis), white yarrow (Achillea millefolium) and oxeye daisies (Leucanthemum vulgare).

Are those different cultivars of peonies? The first picture seems to show a third peony on the far side of the vase.
I believe they are all the same. The plants were here when we arrived 35 years ago and still going strong.
Beautiful bouquet, Eliza. Your peonies must unfold a little later than ours. Most of them are done blooming already.
Thank you, Tanja. The cool spring has helped them linger, thankfully.
Lovely arrangement.
Thank you, Rupali. 💖
Fabulous
Merci!
This is such a pretty arrangement Eliza. Your peonies are beautiful. 😃
Thank you, Cathy. Peonies are one of the highlights of the garden year for me.
Such a beautiful vase Eliza and such lovely hues of pink in the Peony 🩷 xxx
Thank you, Xenia. 💕 🥰
Hi Eliza
We love peonies too. We just published a post about peonies.
Your flower arrangement is beautiful.
Thanks for sharing

🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
Thank you! Such a gorgeous flower.
They so stand out Eliza. That bottom left photo of the pink and deeper pink centers is a delight 🤗❤️🙏
Thank you, Mark. We wait all year for peonies!
I bet, they are indeed totally worth the wait 🤗❤️🙏
I didn’t think anything could improve on a bushful of peonies, but your vase does the trick.
Thank you very much, Linda. 🙂
Hail to Queen Peony in all her royal pink splendor!
🙂 Thanks, Barbara!
Absolutely beautiful way to start Monday! I love all peonies, and this is a beautiful one. Lovely arrangement.
Many thanks, Judy!
The blue and green sets off the lovely pink peonies to perfection.
Thank you, Susie!
Gorgeous! Such a bounty of textures and colors and so artfully arranged!
Thank you, Alice!
I am envious of your peonies.
Thank you, they are having a good year.
A love peonies! They last such a short time, but they are so glorious.
I think that short period of bloom enhances our attention and appreciation. They are adored by many!
When we were looking at landscapers to help us build our new garden, one of them forcefully told me he hated peonies. Not the guy for us! My peony bush is 20+ years old and absolutely glorious each year.
Yikes, definitely!
I agree with you there Eliza, peonies are very regal, but for me they share the throne with roses. But peonies are doubly precious because their moment is so fleeting. Such a pretty arrangement.
Many thanks, Liz!
Ah, peony’s time…it such a glorious moment at the beginning of summer. They are simply beautiful.
Merci!
All of your arrangements are lovely, but to me, this is one of the best.
Thank you very much, Laurie!

🥰
I love the blue and pink combination. Also a 100% agreed with the peony comment!
Thank you, Karen! 💕
That salvia is a glorious shade of blue, and really zings alongside the alchemilla, making a pleasing foil for the gracious peony
Thank you, Cathy!
I’m so, so envious!

🙂 Thanks, Kris. Kind of the way I feel about your freesia, anemones and ranunculus. 🙂
Peonies indeed are fabulously regal, but my late mom had a special fondness for daisies (and I find myself agreeing with her). Such pure simplicity that seems to know they might not be the queen, but they come pretty close!
Nothing cheers a soul like sunny daisies, I agree. But oh, the fragrance and soft petals of a peony… 🙂
The peonies are lovely with a fine supporting cast 😊
Thank you, Belinda!
The peony is regal, but the Veronica is the main lady in waiting for me, a wonderful arrangement.
Thank you, Tom. ‘Crater Lake Blue’ is big favorite of mine as well.
Beautiful, Eliza. Peonies are like ballerinas with the fluffy ruffly tutus!
Yes, I love them! Thanks, Dale.
I must add some to my front garden. Every year I add something 🙂
👍🏼 Best transplant time is late summer/early fall.
Thank you, good to know!!
Her courtiers frame her nicely, though. It’s a beautiful arrangement.
Thank you, Beth!
Gorgeous
Thank you, Eunice!
All the colors are very complimenting to each other and the shape of the arrangement is perfect. So beautiful!
Thank you, Rebecca!
Peonies always remind me of carnations – on steroids. 🙂 … P.S. I love carnations. 😀
Yes, can you imagine how a large carnation like that would smell? Wow!
I love that we have the same two flowers in our vases this week! And you’re right – peonies are absolutely the queens of the June garden!
Yes, same here. Thanks, Chris!
This made my heart sing 💐💖💐
Glad to hear it! 💕
Love peonies and that wonderful description “the elegant queen of the June garden.”🙂
Thank you– we’re down to the last few buds, so hard to say ‘goodbye’ for another year!
