Silent Sunday – Doublefile Viburnum

Love them! I want to get the trailing hydrangea one.
I have a friend who have a few growing up tall pine trees… quite lovely!
Nice never thought to do that.
I don’t recommend it on a building (brick or wood), because like English ivy, the little appendages that attach will ruin it.
OH ok good to know.
Those are pretty. I like the little dot centers surrounded by white.
Thank you, Laurie!
Wow, those blossoms are truly amazing-I’ve never seen doubles before!
Thank you, Monika. It is a brilliant white presence in the yard!
Lovely!
Thank you, Sandy. 🙂
Oh wow Eliza, they look like little white butterflies everywhere 🤗❤️🙏
Good analogy! They whole bush is alight with them. 🙂
They remind me of lacecap hydrangeas. Even the leaves are similar, but of course they’re totally different plants.
You’re right, they do. Thanks for pointing that out, Audrey!
At first glance I wondered how they could be so early.
Lovely. They look like hydrangea.
That’s what I thought too
Yes, they look like lace-cap hydrangea, but these will turn into berries that the birds will eat.
Thanks Eliza
Yes, a lot like lace-cap hydrangea, though these will turn into berries that the birds will devour. 🙂
They do look like hydrangeas, but sweeter somehow…
Yes, like lace-caps particularly, but these will turn into berries that the birds will eat. 🙂
So very beautiful.
Thank you, Flavia!
Lovely, is it Viburnum mariesii?
I believe so, it was planted 30 years ago and the tag is lost. But what a show it puts on!
Such a beautiful picture of the lovely double file viburnum! It’s on my list of plantings for the Autumn. This picture is both a reminder and an invitation. Thank you! 🙏🏻💜
Thank you, Carrie. Mine is 30 years old, rather large, and commands the attention of all who pass!
I’m sure it does! From a distance, the blossoms appear to be floating in the leaves. Just beautiful! 😍
🤩
a favorite
They command attention for sure. 🙂
Mine is stupendous this year….they must like rain!
They really are quite dramatic in bloom! 🤩
Pretty! Interesting that the petals don’t equally go around…sort of a ‘half-flower.’
Thanks, Alice. I guess it is well-named. 🙂
Sometimes a non-gardener can have weird thoughts. For example: does “doublefile” mean that this beauty is a sort of ‘backup’ to regular viburnum? The thought of backing up flowers as well as files makes sense to me! LOL
Ha, yes! I believe it refers to the two types of blossoms. Similar to a composite bloom with fertile flowers surrounded by ray petals.
Mine is just starting! LOVE this Viburnum!
It makes quite a statement when in full bloom!
So pretty and great for wildlife.
Thank you, the berries don’t last long, that’s for sure.
Such stately plants!

Agreed. This one has grown so huge over the years, it threatens to take over the path. I’m going to have to get serious on it soon. 🙂
What a pretty flower against those mint green leaves!
Thank you, Belinda. I esp. liked the cascading line of blooms.
😍 so cheerful
Thank you, Susan!
These are so pretty. Do they have a scent … and attract butterflies?!?
A faint scent, and mostly small bees/flies visit them.
Love it
Thank you, Karina!
How pretty. I’m not familiar with this plant. Are the central dots buds that will yet open?
Yes, it is just starting to bloom. The true flowers are tiny, but the bracts get all the attention. 🙂 Many thanks!
Lovely combination the blooms and foliage – it’s super.
Thank you, Tom!
Beautiful, how long does it have flowers?
Thank you! If the weather isn’t too warm, blooms can last for a couple weeks. The 3-day heat wave arriving mid-week might shorten this year’s display. We’ll see!
Great contrast and subject! Both the flowers and foliage are pretty!
Thanks much, Denise, it has grown so huge, it makes quite the statement when in full bloom!
