I do so love Crocus. I wish they loved my little section of SoCal.

Thank you, Kris. I put them in my lawn and let the ants spread their seeds around. Looks like it is going to be a good show this year. 🙂

Is this a crocus? It’s lovely! I often see the deep purple ones, but I don’t think I’ve ever seem this “striped” variety. Unusual, and so pretty!

  19. These are cute Eliza, the background purple and white so highlight that golden center. If we could understand them they are probably asking for a hug 🤗❤️🙏

  20. shoreacres's avatar shoreacres says:

They’re so pretty. I was surprised to read your mention of ants moving their seeds around — but why not?

    • Eliza Waters's avatar Eliza Waters says:

Thanks! Yes, they are clever gardeners. 😉 But truly, it is the plant that is clever to create tasty elaiosomes that attract ants, which eat this covering, then deposit the unharmed seed in their middens which sprout and grow.

      • shoreacres's avatar shoreacres says:

I must have come across this phenomenon before, because ‘elaiosomes’ is familiar. I’ll have to search my blogs and see where or how I used the word!

  21. Love them! 💜 You must be delighted!

These blooms are exquisite. I have not ever seen crocuses in SA, but perhaps some people do grow them in the Western Cape.
