  1. Oh, like this! Such a jazzy looking flower.

Beautiful. Is this a butterfly orchid?

    • Eliza Waters's avatar Eliza Waters says:

No, butterfly or moth orchid (Phalaenopsis) have large, rounded ‘wing’ petals. I didn’t note the species of these, except for the striped Paphiopedilum, sorry. I was too enthralled with being in their presence! 🙂

  3. Why are orchards so varied? You can name 50 other plants and they vary…a bit. But these babies almost sing in their design, shape and color. Delightful kind lady, a sanguine Sunday after that, thank you 🤗❤️🙏

  4. Anne's avatar Anne says:

    How attractive!

  5. Alice's avatar Alice says:

Such beauties… I wonder what will bloom from those striped buds?! You must have had a great time walking and observing!

  6. Very pretty. I got two books from the library in an effort to learn about taking care of orchids. One thing I know is I need more books. 🙂

Thank you, Judy. Some are easier than others. Dendrobiums, Phalaenopsis and Cattleyas are the easiest as they can tolerate lower humidity. The key is to have good drainage and only water when the roots turn white from the saturated green.

  7. Absolutely stunning, Eliza… and so unusual!

I’m curious. Are these their natural forms, or have the plant breeders been busy? I know there are plenty of truly exotic orchids, but these seem to be especially so!

    • Eliza Waters's avatar Eliza Waters says:

It may be both, species and hybrids. I didn’t look closely at the labels, but enjoyed their exquisite forms. Smith has a lot of orchids in their collection, all well-tended.

  9. Beautiful! You must be really good with orchards.

  11. Very artistic! The first one looks like someone painted each flower.

For some reason, I’m not enamored of the first shot, but I like the second one with all those lines. They seem to carry the promise of good and interesting things to come!

  13. Pepper's avatar Pepper says:

So pretty! My first orchid blossom just popped opened this morning. It isn’t as gorgeous as yours but I am excited about it. 😁

I love the spidery flow from one to another, especially looking from left to right. They’re positioned in a dance mode, I think. Great capture!
