Cool!
Thanks, Sandy!
Welcome, Eliza.
They always look to me like folded hands unfolding.
Yes, protecting the bud… a cool design. Thanks, Su!
I never would have guessed!
Little sculptures in the garden! 🙂
Striking image. Curious, swirly petals.
Thank you, Maria. A beautiful unfolding!
Like magic!
Definitely! 🙂
Love ‘em! Could look at them for hours.
Thanks, Gary. Little works of art. 🙂
WOW. I have never seen this.
They are truly beautiful when they first emerge, like mini-sculptures. 🙂
The excitement mounts! 😃
Yes! 🙂
Beautiful
Thank you, Sheree.
Haha, I thought it said pony unfolding and on looking at the picture I though maybe it had its tail in a knot 🤣❤️🙏
Ha, interesting!
Tantalizing preview!
Emergence is a beautiful thing! Thanks, Barbara.
Eliza’s view…I wonder what color?
Pink, I believe, although I do have white as well. Time will tell!
Protected until ready to show off!
Yes! Patiently awaiting the show! 🙂
😊
Hi Eliza. Fascinating that something so twisted and somehow misshapen turns into something so beautiful.
MJ
The ugly duckling turned swan. 😉
I would have never Identified that plant.
I reckon most of us focus on the spectacular bloom. 🙂
You can just see the bud peeking through. Very nice, Eliza!
Thank you, Belinda!
*SIGH*
🙂 I know… we all get garden envy at times. 😉
I never would have guessed ‘peony.’ Is all that twistiness leaves or bracts?
Leaves… lots of anthocyanins at this stage.
Neat shapes, I’ve never seen them in this phase. I thought of an ugly duckling as well.
Thanks, Tom. Its look kind of grows on one!
My peony bush has come and gone for the season, but it lasted nearly a week this time before the rain did it in. Maybe I prize it even more than other things in the garden because its beauty is so short-lived each year, but spectacular while here.
It’s brevity of bloom does force us to appreciate it all the more while it is in season. The secondary buds thankfully extend the bloom time!
Their leaves always remind me of hands at this stage.
They do! 🙂
I’ve seen peonies in bloom here, and they’re gorgeous. This doesn’t look anything like what I’ve been seeing. Wonder why??
This was taken when they are only maybe 5″ tall, early emergence.
Very strange and different from how it will look!
Yes, an unusual, but attractive beginning!
Nature always keeps us guessing — great surprise to me, Eliza.
Thank you, Jet. This stage is so much fun to see, like little forest creatures. 🙂
That is a perfect photo of newly unfolding peony foliage! ❤
Interesting twists and turns. I would have never guessed a peony!
Thanks, quite a few mentioned the same. Small, but so special!
