IAVOM – Last of the Season

With frost expected tonight, I cleared my beds of all useable buds and blooms. It resulted in several vases, but this is the best of them. While some may think orange and pink don’t go together, I rather like the combination. My garden’s last hurrah!

We woke up to snow! I was not expecting it at all. (Usually, I check the weather app but this time? Missed it.
That said, I absolutely love pink and orange (much to my sister’s chagrin).
    Lovely.

  2. jmankowsky's avatar jmankowsky says:

Beautiful! The end of the season…we ate the last tomatoes from the garden yesterday. ;-(

  3. John's avatar John says:

Orange and pink look perfect together! Lovely, and stay warm!

  4. Donna Donabella's avatar Donna Donabella says:

Oh these colors are so gorgeous together…soft pink, orange and deep purple on my! We are awaiting frost, freeze or snow. Looks like perhaps Wednesday night.

  5. Alice's avatar aiwtopaz says:

    Sooooo luscious…like sorbet!

  6. That is a lot of end of the season flowers. Looks like my garden, a big mix of colors. We dropped 40 degrees from 86 yesterday.

    🧡🩷🧡🩷🧡💝🤗 Works for me, beautiful!!

  8. Cathy's avatar Cathy says:

Wow – that’s a last hurrah and a half!! 🤣 What a great way to bow out of the season Eliza – it seems such a shame that blooms can go from this degree of perfectness to virtual destruction overnight…

    • Eliza Waters's avatar Eliza Waters says:

Thank you, Cathy. 🙂 We’ve enjoyed a long, warm October, well past our usual frost date, so I can’t complain too much. It was like a one month bonus. 🙂

  9. Beautiful flowers Eliza “ Enjoyed seeing them!

  10. TD's avatar TD says:

The flowers are gorgeous. I especially like that you have placed them with the fall tree backdrop. You have a lovely property. This almost looks like an oil painting. I only wish I could selfishly smell them.

  11. Debbie's avatar Debbie says:

Such beautiful end-of-season flowers, Eliza! And yes, I think pink and orange go pretty well together here, too. We’re under freeze warnings this week as well — sigh. I’ve already culled my spring/summer flowers, but nothing looked as nice as yours.

  12. Anne's avatar Anne says:

How satisfying that your garden still has so much to offer as a ‘last hurrah’ 🙂

    • Eliza Waters's avatar Eliza Waters says:

I hauled 3 cartloads out to the compost pile and salvaged a bucketful to arrange. The frosts this week will be the end of what is left. Big sigh. April seems far off for the next pickings.

  13. I like orange and pink together, but people get freaky about it. I especially love the orangey zinnia, a coincidence or is it named?

  14. sandyjwhite's avatar sandyjwhite says:

    I love your last hurrah!

Frost in your case, mildew in mine – however, the season ends, at least we had a good run. I’ve always like the combination of orange and pink! I even had a pair of neon pink and orange patent leather shoes back in junior high (!!!).

  17. Rupali's avatar Rupali says:

    Gorgeous flowers.

  18. Gorgeous. The last treasures of summer.

  19. Still a bit of summer in your garden, lovely!

  20. Vicki's avatar Vicki says:

I love the pink and orange together in your vase too, but it’s probably the soft shade of orange, as I probably wouldn’t have thought of putting the two colours together otherwise.

    Lovely arrangement (as always). 🙂

  21. Val T Boyko's avatar Val Boyko says:

Sublime 🤩 This is such a special time to be awake to natures transformations … and unfolding surprises❣️

  22. So beautiful Eliza! Thank you for adding some wonderful color to this season of transition. 💜🙏🏻

    How beautiful!

  24. pbmgarden's avatar pbmgarden says:

Beautiful flowers again, Eliza. Those peachy dahlias and sassy zinnias are great together. Interesting how your cold weather has held off this year. Everyone seems to be looking at a similar forecast this week.

  25. What a glorious ending to the season!! Thank you again for sharing your beautiful flowers and gardens! We went from 70 degrees on Friday to sleet and snowflakes today.🙂

  26. shoreacres's avatar shoreacres says:

Those pastel peach and pink tones remind me of the slushes that used to be served at fancy occasions in the 1960s. As I recall, they were based on things like orange or raspberry sherbet or sorbet; diluted, they were exactly the color of these wonderful flowers.

We’re closer to you in weather than we’ve been for a while. Tomorrow night’s low here on the coast is predicted to be 42F; north of Houston, it may drop to 34F!

    • Eliza Waters's avatar Eliza Waters says:

Yes, orange, lemon and raspberry sorbet that came in the same container!
We woke to frost yesterday morning and today it is snowing, with an inch already. It was 80º on Saturday, what?!

  27. Michele Lee's avatar Michele Lee says:

They look fabulous together! Gorgeous. 🩷🧡

  28. greendreamsswe's avatar Maria says:

They do look incredible! I currently have 8 inches of snow outside my window.

  29. Noelle Mace's avatar Noelle Mace says:

Hurrah for combinations of colour, and nice to see the back drop of trees in your lovely garden.

  30. Cathy's avatar Cathy says:

I LOVE pink and orange together Eliza, so this hit all the spots for me. And what bounty so late in the season! I wonder if the frost has hit yet. I often feel a bit of relief when it comes (if it isn’t too early!) as it means I can breathe out a little and start winter preparations. Just rolled up our hosepipes and cleaned all the more fragile birdbaths to store for winter.

  31. Gorgeous arrangement, and the colors are beautiful together. It did remind me I need some additional colors though. 🙂

  32. This brought to mind a huge ice cream cone with multiple flavours, a creamy orange, perhaps a purply licorice… so cheery on a cold day!

  33. maryjane678's avatar maryjane678 says:

Hi Eliza. I think these colours are super together, lavishly flamboyant! I shall miss your vases. Until next year…

Oh, goodness. Such rich colors. My flowers are all gone, so thanks for sharing, Eliza.

  35. Robin's avatar Robin says:

So beautiful, Eliza. ♥♥♥ I like the combination of pink and orange in your arrangements. They seem to compliment each other well.

  36. A beautiful last hurrah Eliza well rescued from the jaws of frost! We’re still waiting for our first frost. I like the orange and pink shades together 😀

  37. tonytomeo's avatar tonytomeo says:

They must be done by now. I was not here on Monday. It is Thursday now. I would not have noticed any incompatibility of color if you had not mentioned it. They seem to go together splendidly, perhaps because they are pastels.

  38. I think pink and orange are beautiful together and my oh my, that’s a fabulous last hurrah.

  39. Pepper's avatar Pepper says:

And a gorgeous hurrah it was! 👏😊

  40. It was a good season but all good things come to an end or at least most of them. These hardly look like remnants. They are beautiful as is the arrangement.
Mary Beth has dug up her dahlias and packed them away. The cannas are drying and will be packed this week. Both will have nice slumbers waiting for the return of Spring.

  41. WOW … what a gorgeous color palette and arrangement!

  42. Dalo Collis's avatar Dalo 2013 says:

Wow, those are amazing colors and simply beautiful flowers… what a way to go out with a bang… and when it is my time, I hope to do the same 🙂
