Wordless Wednesday – Feather

A serene scene? What adventure did that feather have?
A peaceful scene for sure. Very different than its former life attached to a Stellar jay! 🙂
I mean, ‘Steller’s Jay!
Well, it’s a stellar shot. 🙂
Thanks, Steve. 🙂
What pretty bird left that?
Stellar jay most likely, near Tahoe.
Oops, misspelled it: Steller’s Jay 🙂
Oh I want to find that feather! So beautiful 💙
Thank you, Karen. It was a sweet happenstance, looking down and seeing it nestled there amongst the moss and detritus.
A fun & interesting treasure hunt! Right-wing feather of a Blue jay…very soft landing on the moss, a Columbine shoot, conifer cones that I’m not familiar with…so maybe near Lake Tahoe? (my first thought was that they were poopies …but that would be Mary Holland’s blog 😆)
Ha, no poops! 😀 Nice, careful observation, Alice. Stellar jay and Jeffrey pine, another scene from our vacation. So many photos to share!
Steller’s Jay… I misspelled it! 😉
The cones among which the feather lies look much like the cones from the longleaf pines in east Texas. I doubt they’re from the same species of pine, but I’d bet on pine of some sort. It’s a pleasingly eclectic collection of ‘bits.’
Thank you, Linda, most likely Jeffrey pine, as that is the predominant species in the Tahoe area. I couldn’t resist this little vignette!
Beautiful feather! I saw a plain gray one just sitting out in the grass a couple of days ago. It always make you stop and wonder about the story as to how it got there. 🙂
Thank you, Judy. So true, nature helps us pause and be present in the moment. 🙂
The blue jays are molting!
Yes, though this was a Stellar jay feather… had to capture it, borrowing A’s phone!
Misspelled it: Steller’s Jay 😉
This is a beautiful autumnal composition!
Thank you, Anne. A little vignette that captivated me. 🙂
LOVE!
🙂 Thanks, Catherine!
A lovely scene… is it a jay feather?
Thank you, Cathy… it caught my eye and I had to capture it (borrowing my son’s phone!) Yes, it is a stellar jay feather.
Oops, misspelled it: Steller’s Jay 🙂
Remnants of summer?
Possibly!
Trying to remember, is it if you see a feather someone in heaven is thinking about you?
Hadn’t heard that before, but I like it!
That vibrant blue really stands out!
Yes, it definitely caught my eye!
Beautiful natural collage!
Thank you, Sandy… nature offers great artwork!
We just need to be observant.
Indeed!
Love it… Feather amongst the “debris”!
Thanks, Dale! 🙂
I like this photo, Eliza. It reminds me of a multimedia art piece!
Thanks, Tina. Nature’s collage!
See? The blue really stands out amid all that customary Fall color (much like my blue butterfly!)
It sure did, I had to take a pic!
A beautiful blue and in pristine shape.
Thank you, Belinda. It was a nice find. These jays are everywhere in the CA mountains.
Bluejay? They leave their feathers for me all the time and I treasure these sassy raucous and colorful birds.
It is a Stellar jay feather, very common in CA. The have a raspy call, I prefer our blue jay’s more melodious repertoire.

I had to google Stellar Jay because I had never heard of it before. It’s absolutely gorgeous! Did you see a Stellar Jay while visiting your son? And did you or son keep the feather? I’m curious.
Sometimes I will keep a feather for a few days. The blackbirds are molting here now and the feathers are standing straight up with its point stabbed to the ground. Many of them. It looks Halloween Hunted in my front yard.
I’m not keeping any of the blackbird’s feathers. Although I would have kept the Stellar Jay’s feature!
Yes, they are a very common bird in the Sierras. And no, I left the feather where it was, for others to enjoy (which was off to the side in the middle of a mini-golf course!)
Seeing a lot of blackbirds feathers must be something! They must feel naked! 😀
I misspelled it: Steller’s Jay 🙂
Ha! I did not notice. But Google confirms Steller’s Jay. Yet the spelling feature shows Steller’s underlined as a misspell. Our English language is as crazy as our United States politics (in my opinion)!
Many interesting elements in your image, Eliza. The striking blue stands out well. Good find! 🙂💙
Thank you kindly, Jane!
What pretty shades of blue in the feather.
Thank you, Steve. Reflects the cobalt skies out there.
Lovely little scene, Eliza. Jays are everywhere. 🙂
Especially in the Sierras! Thanks, Steve.
I was just writing about finding feathers on another person’s blog then came here to find a feather! A very beautiful one too.
Serendipity? 🙂 Thanks, Susan.
Ah, who can resist the attraction of a beautiful feather. Always makes me feel reverent. I’m unfamiliar with Steller’s Jay so had to look it up. What a striking creature.
Same here, had to borrow my son’s phone so I could capture it…taught me to keep my phone with me, even while mini-golfing!
What a beautiful feather!
Thank you, the Steller’s jay is a striking bird.
I’m enjoying your Sierra series, Eliza–seeing the scenes I see but with your fresh eastern appreciation. Catkins, Steller’s feather with those lovely dark lines, pine needles on the bed of moss. Another lovely arrangement of yours, this one without a vase.
🙂 Thanks for that lovely compliment, Jet!
I love finding feathers!! ❤️❤️❤️
Pretty to see just laying there, waiting for me to find it. 🙂
