Time to showcase my sunflower pocket vase with a mini-sunflower (Helianthus annuus) grown from seeds saved from a previous summer. Those plants were short and while these plants are also short, the crosses have been interesting!
Additionally, there is goldenrod (Solidago sp.), black-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta), calendula (C. officinalis) and woodland sunflower (Helianthus divaricata).

Splendid! Sunflowers are not nearly as popular here as they were years ago. I can not imagine why. It seems that many of those that are popular here bloom for autumn or late summer, about now, rather than the middle of summer.
Thanks, Tony. They are a cheerful flower beloved by bees, I always have to grow a few plants to enjoy.
Wow wow and wowwwww Eleazar. Absolutely gorgeous—vase and flower.
Thanks, Dawn, glad you liked it! 🌞
Beautiful! 🥰
Thanks, John!
You’re welcome. 😊
Spectacular, Eliza. Love your happy arrangement and your pot is perfect.

🙂 Thanks, Jane, much appreciated!
Love it! Sunshine in a vase.
Thanks, Sandy! It lights up this dreary day we are having. 🙂
It is fun seeing your lovely vase again – as well as the gorgeous array of flowers you have chosen for it.
Thank you, Anne!
That is one gorgeous sunflower!
Thanks, one can’t beat a happy sunflower face!
So true!
I love it Eliza! A perfect vase with perfect September flowers.
Thank you, Chris! 🙂
What a happy, lovely arrangement!
Thank you, Tina! 😎
Love, LOVE!!
Glad to hear it! Thanks, Dale. 🌞 😎
🌻💞
Your title is perfect – sunshine and fireworks in a vase.
Thanks, Susan!
gorgeousness in a gorgeous vase ❤️
🙂 Thank you, Catherine!
Stunning. I adore that sunflower vase, and all the beautiful flowers you chose!
Thank you, Donna!
How charming, it was as if the vase by designed by the someone who wanted to showcase exactly the flowers you selected: the ensemble is perfect.
Thank you, Noelle. It certainly must have been designed with sunflowers in mind. 🙂
Simply delightful 🌻❤️💛🤗
Thank you, Susan!
That is such a cute vase and you have the perfect flowers for it. While I was on vacation in PA, I saw a tiny house with sunflowers planted all across the front including the across the front door.
Thanks much. Guess they must use the back or side door, eh? 😉
beautiful!
Thank you, Bela! x
Oh that is the perfect vase for these blooms, Eliza – what a great find!
Thank you, Cathy!
Some bright and cheerful
It surely is! Thanks, Karina. 🙂
What a cheerful arrangement! I was just trying to figure out a way to use some goldenrod. The fountain effect works so well with the sunflower as an anchor.
Thank you, Angela. I love using sprays of goldenrod in arrangements, it lasts well, too.
That self-seeded sunflower is wonderful with what looks like a fancy frame around its center. Every time I cut sunflowers I think of your wonderful sunflower vase 🙂
How nice that you remember it! It really doesn’t used much except once or twice a year, as it just begs to display Helianthus exclusively. 🙂
Beautiful! I really love your vase, and the flowers you chose for it are perfect! You have arranged everything so nicely. 😃 The woodland sunflower is something I have never seen here, but I assume the well-known Helianthus ‘Lemon Queen’ I grow was derived from that originally.
Thank you, Cathy! 🙂
The flowers and the vase are such a striking combo!
Thank you, Julie, one was made for the other!
As always a great arrangement and usually the vase complements the flowers but in this case I think they are on equal footing.
Thank you, Steve! It is a fun vase to use.
I really enjoyed this oh-so-vibrant summer arrangement, Eliza.
Thanks, Jet, so glad you liked it. 🙂
Beautiful!
Thank you, Diana!
What an adorable, little, perfect sunflower. I think sunflowers change daily and take the longest of any flower to set seed.
Thanks, Alice… nice to see that WP let you comment! Another reader said they had the same trouble. I think WP has been having a few hiccups lately, by the sounds of it.
Sunflowers, my favorite! Beautiful combination, Eliza!
Thank you, Rebecca!
This post may be about flowers, but that vase is definitely a winner and the pattern nothing like I’ve ever seen before.
Is it modern or maybe early 20th century?
Thank you, Vicki. Late 90s, Ecuador. 🙂
Such a cutie 💐🥰
Thank you, Val!
So gorgeous! Yesterday I walked by my old workplace and admired all the sunflowers I wanted with the students in the spring. Sunflower is my favourite flower. Your bouquet is beautiful.
Thank you, Maria!
Eliza, your vase is stunning! It’s hard to tell where art becomes flower and flower reflects art. I bet you had fun pulling this together.
Thank you, Alys. I get lost in floral art, it’s a ‘flow’ thing. 😉
I understand. It’s a wonderfully creative outlet. My dad was a horticulturist in his day. He and our mom had two flower shops in Canada and Dad did all the arrangements.
So you have it in your blood, too! 🙂
Happy floral sunshine.
Surely is! Thanks, Steve.
Pop
That it does! 🙂
Love it! The cute round sunflower makes the vase, although I’d never turn down a calendula!
Thank you, Frank! I bought and sowed hybrid calendula about 5 years ago and it is fun to see what crosses come up every year from those originals. Some are quite beautiful.
Gorgeous arrangement and love that vase!!🙂
Thank you! they were made for each other. 🙂
Very beautiful, Eliza! Do these shorter varieties have a long growing season too?
Thank you, Belinda! Not really… they bloom and fade like any other sunflower. I think they were bred for the florist industry. They grow about 3′ tall with a single bloom. You’ve probably seen them in shops.
Ooh I love these, so yellow and happy.
Thanks, Jill!
Such beauty.
Thanks miuch!
A perfect bunch of flowers for the pretty vase! You’re an artist, Eliza.
Aw, thanks much, Barbara! 🙂
Sunflowers make me happy!
Along with daisies, the cheeriest of flowers!
A very sunny and happy bouquet! I love your creations Eliza.
Thank you very much, Denise!
Beautiful so so Beautiful ❤ ❤ ❤
Thank you, Deepa!
How cool is this, Eliza! Those bright cheerful colors – the perfect ode to September.
Thank you, Lynn! I can’t resist a sunny face. 🙂
Vase, sunflower, supporting flowers are all wonderful. Great job Eliza. Vase of sunshine.
Thank you, Susie!
Stunning !!!
Thank you!
