So beautiful! Is being born on the winter solstice a bad thing?
Thank you! Is it your birthday? If so, very symbolic and happy birthday, John!
Thanks, Eliza. ☺️
😍
Thank you, Denise! Blessings!
WOW. Looks like The Sierras.
You got that right – behind my son’s house in Truckee. 🙂
That’s a perfect picture postcard if I’ve ever seen one, Eliza!
Thank you, Kris. Took this pic behind my son’s house… man, they get a lot of snow!
Wow. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
Thank you, Dawn! x
Beautiful light on these short dark days! Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Thank you, Ellen!
Wonderful
Merci!
😎
Okay, I am going to stay in the house and drink hot chocolate, maybe some popcorn and a easy jigsaw puzzle (like those wooden ones toddlers use!) beautiful photo!
Thank you, Gary. I like what you have planned. 🙂 Do you recognize the area? Taken behind my son’s house in Truckee. Glad I was only visiting… way too much snow for me, lol!
I thought it might be Truckee. Does he live on the edge of town there? Just beyond the railroad tracks? They really got the snow last week. I would get very tired shoveling snow.
Me, too. I was glad to head home to our paltry few inches. It took days to dig out his yard and vehicles from that 2′ storm (Mt. Rose got 5′), including his many contracts he has for snow removal. Don’t know how he does it, part Energizer bunny, I guess. He lives in Olympic Heights above Glenshire.
A man’s man, I’d say. Gotta love it. I only like it.
He sure is, we’re quite proud of him. 🙂
Wow!!!! 🕊️😘 Winter Solstice Greetings, dearest Eliza ❤️
Thank you, Isha. This was taken behind my son’s house… they get SO much snow in winter!
It’s absolutely gorgeous! I hope they make a lot of snow people!
He is more interested in snowmobiling… Vrooomm! 🙂
Oh my, what a beautiful shot!
Thank you, Dale!
🙂
lovely, serene… kudos..
Thank you!
Amazing photo, and Happy Holidays to you as well.
Thank you, Judy!
Happy Winter Solstice, Eliza! What a beautiful winter scene! ❄️ ⛄ 🌲
Thank you, Barbara!
Beautiful….nothing like the blues of winter (in more ways than one!). But now the sun returns…..
Hurrah! Thanks much. x
Happy Solstice. Ours is green with the last of the leaves still falling.
Thank you, a big difference a few degrees in latitude makes!
Hi Eliza. Don’t know how I’d cope with that much snow!! Happy Christmas to you. MJ
Thank you, MJ. I am glad I don’t have to either. My son moves tons of snow every winter… better him than me!
Yes: Happy Solstice! We’ve already gained 2 afternoon minutes. The snow looks beautiful….there! Strong trees.
Thank you, Alice. Those pines are well-adapted to heavy snow!
Beautiful. Are those small, smooth hillocks of snow caused by drifting?
Thank you, Linda. Those are small shrubs like sagebrush, etc. buried under there. Eventually, there will be so much snow that it will look smooth. Tons of snow!
Gorgeous, and that is a lot of snow!
Thank you, my son lives near Tahoe and boy, they sure do get a ton of snowfall!
Impressive!
Beautiful photograph for the start of winter.
Thank you! Winter can be so beautiful.
And thank you for the gifts you bring to the nature that surrounds us.
Thank you, Karen, much appreciated! 🙏🏼
This is so beautiful it should be a Christmas card, Eliza!
Thank you very much, Debbie! 🙂
Glorious image. Happy solstice Eliza
Thank you, Karina!
Happy Solstice and happy winter, Eliza. I wish California would share some of its snow with the eastern half of Colorado. We could really use it.
Thank you, Tanja. Yeah, the weather these days seems to be in the extremes only, no more moderation!
Sadly so.
Absolutely beautiful, Eliza!
Thank you, Donna!
As pretty as it is, the best view is inside a cosy house looking out 😉. (I’m not a big fan of winter.)
Ha, me, neither. I wander outside daily for exercise but then it is right back inside next to the wood stove with a cup of tea!
😊
That is gorgeous. Goodness. Glad I don’t live there. Hope you’re prepared for the east coast version…
Thank you, Lisa. We’re predicted to get mostly rain… time will tell. I’m just hoping we don’t lose power… which is not fun at all. We’re so spoiled with modern conveniences!
Yes. Power is very nice to have in winter…
OMG is that gorgeous and my kinda winter, may have a different attitude after our winter storm arrives!!☃️
Thank you, the Sierras get SO much snow! Stay safe, warm and cozy during the storm. 🙂
Woo-hoo! What a lot of snow! Happy Solstice Eliza.
Thank you, Jet!
I came back to take another look. This is absolutely gorgeous. Looks like the perfect Christmas card. 😊
Thank you very much, I’m flattered! 🙂
Happy Belated Winter Solstice! I love the image. Your vantage point makes the snow seem super deep. All my best to you in 2023!
Many thanks, Denise. It was a little over 2 1/2′ of snow. While not a lot by mountain standards, it seemed a lot to me! 😀 Happy New Year to you as well.
That is a lot. It looks like the street in front of the houses is at a lower level?
Yes, this was in the Tahoe area, streets are often 50′ above each other. Everyone gets a view, lol!
Gosh – deep and crisp and even! And beautiful too. Best wishes to you for the solstice and for Christmas. Of course we celebrated summer solstice – with ongoing extremes of rain in our part of the country and increased levels of rolling electricity blackouts!
Thank you, Carol. This storm came while we visited our son in the mountains of California. They get A LOT of snow! I prefer the lesser amounts we get here in the East.
Yes that amount of snow is beautiful but it must be extremely daunting. Keep warm and cosy this Christmas.
A magical winter solstice indeed! Wonderful photo 🙂
Thank you, Maria!
A beautiful photo Eliza. Stay warm! 🤗
Thank you, Cathy! I’m grateful for my down coat. 😉
Making winter look pretty for those who live in summer temps 🙂 Hope you enjoyed your holiday.
Thank you, Eunice. Yes, it was a lovely day at my grandniece’s house. I love that the younger generation is taking on the traditions!
How wonderful.
Here’s a curious fact: the latest sunrise and earliest sunset don’t occur at the winter solstice. The latest sunrise comes after the winter solstice, while the earliest sunset comes before it.
Yes, for a week, approx. Dec. 17-24, the day length is the same, while the sunrise/sunset times are different.
That’s a lot more snow than we got. Nice soft round snowy hillocks.
Definitely more. It really dumps in the Sierras!
Stunning!! Where is that??❤️
Thank you! Behind my son’s house in CA. They get SOOOO much snow in the Sierras.
Oh wow! California! I have never been – looks beautiful
Yeah, he went out there and never came back! Can’t blame him as he loves snow sports, but it is quite the haul to get out to see him. Northern CA is just gorgeous along the coast and redwood forests, and the Mojave desert in the south is a stark, but stunning ecosystem. I’d live there if there weren’t so many people, crippling traffic jams and prohibitive cost of living!
Wow and wow! Your son’s winter wonderland breathtaking to look at.
Thank you, Monika. He’s been getting even more snow lately! Those atmospheric rivers aren’t stopping.
