IAVOM – Autumn Colors

My orange Blenko vase gets a turn this week showcasing Dahlia ‘Giggles’, Zinnia elegans ‘Envy’ and ‘Aurora’ crosses, gloriosa daisies (Rudbeckia hirta), sedum (Hylotelephium spectabile ‘Autumn Joy’) and lime green flowering tobacco (Nicotiana alata).

Thanks to Cathy at Rambling in the Garden who hosts the weekly garden meme In A Vase On Monday, featuring flowers from our gardens. Click the link to join the fun or see what others are sharing this week.

    That is quite a mix!

It takes a bit of effort to identify the components. Are the ‘Envy’ and ‘Aurora’ crosses of zinnia from collected seed?

      • Eliza Waters's avatar Eliza Waters says:

The green ‘Envy’ seed was bought this year, it varies from pale to lime green, mostly pale, almost yellow. The ‘Aurora’ was from seed saved from last year and are from orange to salmon. It was an interesting experiment, but I think I’ll just buy fresh seed next year.

  2. Lovely! I could imagine that vase used for a Halloween arrangement, if there is such a thing. 🎃

    Very harmonious arrangement

There’s a dearth of flowers in my garden at the moment, so it is lovely to see these ones!

The color of that vase amazed me. I’d not heard of Blenko glass, but then I remembered a large floor piece my mother had that looked like this in terms of color. After going to the Blenko site to see the offerings, I’m fairly sure hers was made by that company. I had to quietly close the site and go away; I love colored glass, so it was too tempting! This vase is a wonderful complement to your flowers!

  8. What a perfect vase Eliza! Your Zinnias are gorgeous.

  9. Great fall colors, and the vase is so unusual.

You still have flowers! That’s great! Weather and the deer have decimated all of ours.

Thanks, Hien! Yes, we have to fence the garden against critters or we’d have nothing. The annuals are about done, but I’ve been able to still glean enough for a vase. Too bad about yours! 🦌

Hi Eliza . Giggles – what a great name. Well done you for still having flowers for the vases.

I was so impressed by your ‘Giggles’ Dahlias that I’ve already ordered the tubers with a few others for delivery next spring 😉

I was interested to read how the Envy zinnias vary so much in shade. They and the nicotiana really tone down the rest of the blooms and make for a pleasing overall effect – and I can see the Halloween suggestion too

  19. Tina's avatar Tina says:

Daisies and Dahlias! These are very autumnal flowers and I love the glass vase!

  20. Oh, I don’t know which I like more—the beautiful bouquet or this lovely vase. In any case, they go together beautifully.

Giggles looks great with the Zinnia. I hope to get at least one more cutting of zinnia from my community garden this season, they are starting to fade.
