Despite the different genus, this looks remarkably like my Christmas cactus bloom. The color is gorgeous, and the stamens evoked a waterfall.
I’ve had the plant for years, this is its first bloom!

I read your comment that you have had the plant for years. I have cactus-type plants that have bloomed only once, and I hope to see them bloom again someday.
They can test one’s patience! I fertilized it and hung it outside in part sun in late May. I think that did it.

The reds are deep and vivid – beautiful flower and images. As a kid I grew a tall cereus in the front of the family house in California, a white flower that was pretty but not as striking as this one.

It was in Davis, California, near Sacramento. The cactus was a Cereus peruvianus a yard or so tall. I had a whole cactus collection outside, many of them flowered.

Is this related at all to a Christmas cactus? I have the tiniest little Christmas cactus as a houseplant and it regularly puts out adorable little blooms several times a year.
Yours is a different genus (Schlumbergera), but both are in the cactus family.

Not having heard of this species, I looked it up and found it’s “an epiphytic cactus from tropical forests in the states of Veracruz and Oaxaca, Mexico.”
