    Gorgeous colours.

In regards to Spring on your side of the world, I have been wondering where all the excess snowmelt went. I know many folk (including NYC) had extraordinary snow depths this past winter.

It melts away into the ground, or trickles (sometimes gushes!) into the watershed. Streams running to rivers and on to the ocean, a great cycle. Thanks, Vicki!

So does that mean your soil is not so waterlogged as ours is at the present time (with severe flooding in our north-eastern states). Normally, we have the same cycle of water soaking into the ground as you, but we’ve had so much rain that the ground is completely waterlogged.

Flooding can happen here, but it is rare to get that amount of rain all at once, thankfully. Spring melt is generally a slow affair and while the streams and rivers may gush and tumble, there is minimal erosion. Several inches of rain, esp. one storm close to the other, can wreak havoc with our roads and wash-outs are common. Summer ’23, we had 37″ of rain in 6 weeks (nearly our average annual total!) and it caused millions in damages. Thankfully, the state helped pay for much of the repair.

Are these from your garden already? Surely not. But what a treasure!

  8. Tina's avatar Tina says:

Such a pretty spring bouquet! Like Linda I wonder if it’s from your garden so soon!

    • Eliza Waters's avatar Eliza Waters says:

Thanks, Tina. No this was the spring bulb show put on by a local collage. It draws folks from miles around, about 20,000 people over a 10-day period. It can get rather crowded, so I pick an early weekday morning, when there’s a bit more breathing room!

  9. Such a beautiful spring bouquet of flowers! Love it.
