Wordless Wednesday – Planning Ahead
This entry was posted in Country Living, My Photos and tagged firewood, New England winter, Wordless Wednesday. Bookmark the permalink.

Whoever said it first (Ford? Thoreau? Lincoln?) was right; “Chop your own wood, and it will warm you twice.”
It is true. Thoreau is given credit from ‘Walden,’ but it was realized well before him. 🙂
Ah. Winter…
Yup! 🙂
How beautiful the sun makes everything look!
Thank you, Anne. Snow transforms the landscape, lots of light reflected!
Ooh, is it that cold that the wood gets its own winter coat too 🤣❤️🙏
Ha, yes. Nothing is melting yet, maybe next week?? 🤞🏼
Must be close, a tiny tip of the heat has reduced here. Its bought a flight to go up your way into the north. Sorry, slow flight though 🤣❤️🙏
Oh, I see sunshine! 😁
Yes, though it continues to be very cold, the sun makes all the difference!
it looks like somebody knows the Scout motto “Be prepared”
You betcha! Thanks, Brian. 🙂
We are using such a lot this year!
Same here, so grateful to stay cozy!
Planning for TODAY!! 😀
The cold continues… 🥶
Good thinking! Enough firewood is something to be grateful for on a cold day.
Absolutely, definitely my daily gratitude! 👍🏼
Planning and a lot of work! Did you chop the wood yourselves? I hope you’ll have enough for your colder than normal winter.
Yes, my spouse did it all that, a cherry broke in a storm and he couldn’t just leave it. A massive amount of sweat and toil went into that stack, god bless him!
We burn 4 cord/yr. and will probably go through the whole lot in the shed, but this is ready in standby should we need it. Otherwise, ready for next year.
That is a lot of work, but so satisfying at the same time. 💗🌺
My spouse claims it is ‘great exercise.’ I groan just looking at it!
LOL 😀
Woods is quite needed this year if you want to stay warm. What a winter it has been. (Suzanne)
For sure, we’ve been burning through a lot this year. Grateful to have it!
My wood pile is way low. I didn’t get extra this year and I am regretting it! I have to make sure I’m on the wood-guy’s list for this fall!
All that to say, beautiful shot.
Thank you, Dale. We get our wood in April (before bug season) and fill the woodshed to dry over the summer. This stack was harvested from our woods, a cherry broke in a storm, excellent for burning!
Oh, that’s even better! I’ll have to check with the wood guy to see what I can do.
Green wood is cheaper than seasoned, too. 😉
True. I should see if I can get some…
Looks like a beautiful sunny day!
Yes, though clear means cold in these parts!
Nice! That should keep you warm and toasty 😊
Yup! Already have a start on next year’s supply. 🙂
Someone(s) did a lot of chopping & stacking.
My spouse, what a guy! 👏🏼
Always wonderful to be appreciated!
A beautiful sight in northern New England.
Security and warmth! 👍🏼
That’s what I see, too.
That should keep you going a while! 😃Did you cut and stack it all yourselves?
The full credit goes to my 71-yr-old spouse, from tree to stove, he has done it all. So amazed and grateful! He claims it is “good exercise.” 😀
Once upon a time I lived in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and stacks of wood ready for the stove were everywhere. Here there are still some, but not nearly as many. And I don’t have a wood stove or even a fireplace anymore. Can’t say I miss hauling wood. But I understand the sense of peace you get when you have it waiting at the ready.
Thanks, Dawn. Many folks here burn wood where it is a plentiful resource.
“The saying “wood warms you twice” is attributed to Henry David Thoreau, who wrote in Walden (1854): “–they warmed me twice—once while I was splitting them, and again when they were on the fire.”
There is security in knowing that whatever happens, we’ll be warm. 🙂
Looks like you’re ready for some warm, roaring fires. Happy Wordless Wednesday!
Thank you, Beth. Ensuring we’ll be warm next year. 🙂
This winter, many people here in Pennsylvania have run out of wood. They are done with WINTER!
Neat shot.
Thank you, Nancy. It has been cold! We average 4 cd per year. I bet this year we’ll use most of it.
We could use some of your snow here in Colorado
Yes, I’ve heard it has been drier than normal. Hopefully, the next 6 weeks you’ll get some good precipitation.
I’d say! That must have been some workout!

Yeah, who needs to pay for a gym membership, ha!
Yeah for the sunshine! Yeah for the wood to keep you warm on these cold days!
Absolutely! 👍🏼
I can hear that wood crackling in your fireplace or a wood-burning stove.
The wood stove is an important and essential part of our winter!
True winter, wood piled and snow in nature!
Thank you, Pamela!
wow, that is a lot of snow.
And more coming… what a winter!
I love a good wood stack. Hope it dries out too. 🔥
Thank you, Flavia. It’ll be ready for the shed in the spring, where it’ll dry nicely over summer for fall burning. Yay!
