It looks like a bird has crossed its legs at the ‘ankles’!

  2. So…it’s not some prehistoric praying mantis thawing out to come get us…is it? 🤣 Great pictures though Eliza, amazing shapes as it becomes a little cooler 🤗❤️🙏

You are a master of interesting details!

Makes for an intriguing image but I have no idea what it actually is. 😁

  5. Looks cold where you are. Is that over the water?

  6. Brrrr… Looks like winter is settling in.

This is a new type of ice to me 🙂

That is a thick layer of ice for November. It’s been really cold here too. Is ‘crackle ice’ a specific type of ice?

It did seem early for ice, but it has been seasonably cold (just like the ‘old’ days). Ice formation is temperature dependent. A rapid decrease in temps causes crackle ice. There are many different conditions that lead to different types of freezing. That’s why I find it so fascinating! 🥶

  9. Fabulous captures, Eliza. Stay warm. We received a skiff of snow but now it’s c-o-l-d (just 13F this morning). Stay warm and cozy this week.

Thanks, Monika. Brrr, that is cold! 🥶 You get dry cold out there with gorgeous blue skies. We’ve been very gray this month and damp, that gets in the bones. 😉

      • True, but today it’s very overcast so it feels even colder. Hopefully we’ll be back in the 40’s by the end of the week without too much snow. 🤞🏻Moving in snow is not my idea of a good time.

I’ve always loved the look of a film of ice acting as a snug jacket on a branch. I don’t know if the branch thinks it’s snug, but that’s what comes to mind for me. 🙂 That’s a lovely capture, Eliza!

    • Eliza Waters's avatar Eliza Waters says:

Thank you, Tina. As ice stays at 32º, if the outer temps fall below that, it would seem ‘snug’, I reckon. That’s why I always like a good covering of snow for my garden plants. They stay a bit protected from deep cold and wind.

Thank you, Kris. I think we are in for an cold winter. 🥶The temps are dropping this week and 5″ of snow is expected on Tues. Yikes, throw another log on the fire! 😉

Lucky you to have pretty stream ice – it’s not that cold here, only one frosty morning so far.

Wow. You could totally put these on a canvas and sell them and nobody would know! 😍
