Silent Sunday – Mushroom & Lichen
This entry was posted in Field Notes, My Photos and tagged lichen, nature photography, Silent Sunday, wild mushrooms. Bookmark the permalink.

A seasonal assemblage of textures and colours here. I wonder what those mushrooms are?
Thank you, Audrey. I’m not much of an expert, all I can identify is ‘polypore’, ‘shelf’ or ‘gilled’, which this is. I would never dare to forage in the wild!
I did think it was strange to see the gills facing up, but you explained that in response to another comment. It made for a great photo, though!
Thank you, yes, it did! Gills make cool and unique patterns, like fingerprints.
This makes for a great autumn color combo!
Thank you, Sandy. It was an exciting find for me. 🙂
Ooh, cool customers…literally 🤣❤️🙏
Yes 🙂 thanks, Mark
A good composition with blended colours
Thank you, Derrick. 🙂
Beautiful photo, Eliza… there is nothing quite like mushrooms and fall leaves to bring the spirit of autumn to me.
Thank you, Randall, much appreciated. It was a delightful find.
Great shapes, colours and textures – I can almost reach out and touch them.
Thank you, Flavia. It was my delightful ‘find of the day!’
A nice vignette of the woods.
Thank you! A sweet find. 🙂
Such a beautiful natural composition Eliza 🧡✨️ xxx
Thank you, Xenia. It was a delight to come upon. 🙂
Lichen is always very interesting, the way it grows and spreads. Those ‘shrooms are very intriguing, they seem strange, with the gills on top.
Thank you, Alice. This was a fallen branch I came upon, I’m sure they grew with gills down. 🙂
….didn’t think of that !
Cool! I like the textures here.
Thank you!
They can be so interesting – if also annoying in the wrong spots. For some reason, despite our low rainfall, I’m seeing a lot of them this year.

Thanks, Kris. Overall, they offer a great service, but dry rot isn’t one of them!
Such a pretty composition, Eliza — thank you for sharing the beauty!
Thank you, Debbie, glad you liked it!
The mushrooms remind me of sea creatures: anemones, particularly.
Sometimes it feels like there a few basic patterns that ripple out through our world. Cool stuff!
Oh, I love these muted tones! Great capture with so much going on in this shot–well done!
Thank you, Tina. I was tickled pink to find it just waiting for me along the path!
Lovely autumnal scene
Thank you, Karina!
OMG, I love this! So many miracles in such a small plot. 🙂
Thank you, Beth. Nature is forever surprising me with little gifts like this. 🙂
I always love your “nature as art” pics. This would great framed…
Thank you, Julie! 🙂
Lovely ones. I’ve never seen any that color.
Thank you, Rebecca. 🙂
Love the gill patterns and the setting with lichen and leaves. I wish I knew the name of the mushroom…
Thanks, Tom. ‘A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.’ 😉
Gorgeous example of texture and pattern.
Thank you, Monika!
love the textures… you really put together nice “eye candy”
Thank you, Dymoon! 🍁
Cool contrast between the defined gill patterns on the mushrooms and the leafy lettuce-like lichens.
Thank you, Barbara. It was a delightful find, textures galore. 🙂
I never see a pink mushroom
It is kind of is a pinkish-brown, isn’t it? I think white, grayish and yellow are the most commonly seen.
