‘Exuberant’ pretty much describes my annual garden at this point in the season, with plants spilling into walkways needing to be tamed. Making my way around reminds me of pushing aside those beaded curtains of my hippie youth. 😂 The above arrangement is made from the slash I trimmed in an effort to take control of the situation.
Love-lies-bleeding (Amaranthus caudatus) continues to do its thing with flower stalks lengthening daily. I cut another offending branch to create a bit of space in the jungle and it is hardly missed. The half dozen flowering tobacco (Nicotiana sylvestris) plants I sowed have grown massive as well, so I topped one to add to the arrangement. It has a delicate, sweet scent.

Wayward gloriosa daisies (Rudbeckia hirta), marigold (Calendula officinalis) and garden phlox (P. paniculata) also got trimmed. White cleome (C. hassleriana) and a few stems of goldenrod (Solidago sp.) from the field finished it.

Made me think of a Dr. Seuss character. 😄
Oh my! It does look like that!
Ha, love that… thanks, Jane!
There is a lot to be fond of in this one; nicotiana, phlox, gloriosa daisies and amaranth (even though I am unfamiliar with it). I am particularly fond of goldenrod. I grew my first just last year.
Thank you, Tony. My fields of goldenrod are keeping the pollinators happily busy these days.
So happy to see colorful garden in the morning. Have a nice day.
Thank you, Vipin!
Everything is going wild. Beautifully, fantastically wild! I hope your not suffering in it all too much Eliza 🤣❤️🙏
Thanks, Mark. I am in my glory!
I love how you arranged the flowers you trimmed. I’ve also spent a decent amount of time trimming my garden these past weeks. It is interesting to see what plants thrive this late of the season.
Thank you, Maria. It feels like a last hurrah. The cool nights and short days are sending a signal to race to the finish line.
Exuberance is the perfect descriptive of this wonderful bouquet!
Thank you, Dale. The garden is throwing a big party!
I bet!
your garden is so full and Exuberant!
Truly, it is pretty amazing right now… thanks!
Happy September! 🍂🍁
Lovely. Happy Monday.
Thank you, Rupali!
DElightful garden
Thank you, Sheree. My happy place!
Wholly understandable Eliza
A wonderfully exuberant vase Eliza and yes, I remember those beaded curtains of my hippy youth too! 😂 xxx
🙂 Thank you, Xenia. Ah, the carefree, good ol- days! 🙂
Beautiful, Eliza. I can imagine walking in your gardens and feeling as if I am moving through a vase of so much beauty and texture.
Thanks, Carrie. It is a wonderful place to be, my favorite, in fact. I like the idea of walking through a giant vase of flowers!
So many different flowers to enjoy…pollinator paradise!
Thanks, Alice. The race is on to gather as much pollen as possible– the bee activity around here is frenetic!
The colors are beautiful, but some of those drooping flowers look like perfect representations of drooping coastal dwellers longing for an end to the heat!
Thank you, Linda. Weeping, cascading plants are interesting anomalies in the plant world. These two take up a lot of space!
A very playful arrangement, Eliza! For some reason I cannot fathom it made me think of the bouncy Tigger from Winnie the Pooh.
Perhaps his coiled, bouncy tail, lol! Thanks, Barbara!
Excellent description of the garden at the end of summer. Your bouquet is a wonderful reflection of this.
Thank you, Laurie!
Exuberance! Have you had plenty of rain this year, or has it been very dry like what we are having?
Yes, thankfully, we received enough rain throughout the summer, until recently. Today, I will have to water my new plantings that are in their first year.
I love it when plants do their own thing.
For sure! I offer a guiding hand, but nature does the rest. What a gift!
The flowering tobacco looks like fireworks – exuberance itself. Beautiful!
Thank you, Tom. It’s been a good garden year, I lucked out with the weather.
No late summer exuberance here, so it is lovely to see yours – it really does shout out ‘summer’!
Sorry to hear that. My garden lucked out this year with a few well-timed showers. Not everyone around me was as lucky unfortunately. I count my blessings!
Thanks, Cathy. 🙂
It’s a wonderful display, Eliza. I’m glad you’re enjoying a bountiful garden despite the searing temperatures you experienced earlier this summer.

Thank you, Kris. July seems like a far off dream now. The annuals really got a good start back then and now I’m reaping the rewards. 💕
Oh yes – the beaded curtains – wonderfully describing the combination of Nicotania and Amarinth! I can picture you pushing them aside as you make your way down the path!
It’s a fun place to wander through, the little kid adventurer in me loves it. 😉
Another stunning arrangement, Eliza. And how grand, trimming things up at the same time that you get to enjoy its beauty!
Thanks, Debbie. Waste not, want not. 😉
Love the exuberance 💐💐💐
Thank you, Val!
That’s a happy bunch of flowers! They get along well!
Thank you, Tina! They seem to be. 🙂
Wonderful, Eliza. I love the spilling and weeping effect. Abundance in a vase. The Nicotiana must be huge!
Thank you, Amy. Both the amaranthus and the nicotiana are between 5-6′ tall. The leaves on the the latter are 20″ long by 8″ wide. Good golly!
Seriously I didn’t know either would do that.. compost magic.
Maybe… but they are always monster plants… very tropical-looking and acting!
Wow, what a lovely outdoor bouquet, Eliza!
Thank you, Kim. Having fun with these crazy flowers!
Ah, those beaded curtains! 😀
Elegant trimmings, Eliza. Love the Amaranthus.
🙂 Thanks, Susie!
Quite inspiring, really!! You make me want to plant more flowers that I could put in a vase. Summer blooms, so heartening ❤
Thank you, flowers are a must-have for me. My garden supplies my habit and when it is dormant, the grocery store has to suffice. But you can guess my preference! 😉
Perfect title for this wonderful arrangement 😊
Thank you, Belinda. Very jungly out there right now!
A beautiful late-summer arrangement, Eliza. I especially like the deep golden addition of the Wayward gloriosa daisies.
Thank you, Rebecca… I love a wild look, hehe. 😉
Beautiful flowers in a handsome vase.
Thank you, Judy! Making hay while the sun shines. 😉
I can only wish for slash that good looking from my garden! Beautiful exuberance.
Thank you, Monika! 🙂
Lovely Vase! Have a great week.
Many thanks, and same to you!
You’re welcome!
Your description of how you have to cut a pathway through all these beautiful plants is wonderful Eliza! 😁 And there is something ‘hippyish’ about them too… sunflowers naturally, the long beaded hair of the Amaranthus, and the tobacco… 😂 Love it!
Thank you, Cathy. 🙂 I’m posting the garden view tomorrow, aka the jungle. 😉
