Hot colors on tap this week! Dahlia ‘Hypnotica Icarus’, marigold (Calendula officinalis) and flowering tobacco (Nicotiana alata) start the show.
Tiger lilies (Lilium lancifolium), zinnias (Z, elegans ‘Aurora’) and cosmos (C. sulphureus) are next.
And lastly, zinnias (Z, elegans ‘Aurora’), anise hyssop (Agastache foeniculum) and bronze fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) foliage.

Wow! These are on fire Eliza. Red means danger, but I think it might be the danger of falling in love with them 🤣❤️🙏
Ha, yes. You might be right. 😉
Cosmos sulphureus! These were popular for IVOM last week.I had not seen any in a long time, and they now seem to be popular. They are rad!
Thanks, Tony. They are more resistant to mildew than the pink species, and less floppy. A beautiful flower that up close looks like brush strokes.
Hot! And also, cool. Great vase.
Thank you, Alys!
Gorgeous
Merci, Sheree!
Lots of red here too
Thanks, Derrick. Reflects the temperatures of late!
A lovely colour combination Eliza.
Thank you, matches the temperatures these days!
You wrote ‘hot colors,’ and I immediately heard ‘hot town, summer in the city, back of my neck gettin’ dirty and gritty.’ 🙂 I’ll have that stuck in my head today. 🙂 Gorgeous arrangement, and ‘hot’ is the right word for this week. I just wish I had a really good book for the next couple of days. 🙂
Thanks, Judy. I love that song, takes me back to my youth. 😉 Hot seems to be the new normal. Stay cool, head over to the library to pick up a page turner!
Gorgeous bouquets! Lovely colored Dahlias. Your Aurora Zinnias are h u g e ! The bronze Fennel is perfect. Have you seen any BSTs? Last year, at this time, I had over 10 Caterpillars on my fennel, none, so far, this year.
Thanks, Alice. Not a lot of BSTs, just a few, and a couple white admirals and a sulphur. I should check my plants… I’ve been concentrating on monarchs lately, it seems!
lovely colors and great photos
Many thanks!
🙂
Your flowers and photos of them are stunning
Thank you, Karen! ❤
So much lovely orange in that vase — and not a hint of Halloween or pumpkins. The various shades are really appealing, and combine beautifully.
Thank you, Linda. Yes, I’ve been ignoring the uptick of Halloween decor already popping up. The past decade has seen such a crazy rise in popularity of celebrating it.
Hot, hot, hot! The reds and oranges perfectly reflect a hot summer vibe!
Thank you, Barbara. Another hot week ahead for us, too. But I must say, last week was really nice summer weather, so at least we got to enjoy it. 🙂
Oh yes, we definitely should make the most of those occasional pleasant summer days. 🙂
Three delightful arrangements, and loving the view of the garden in the background. And you have sacrificed Tiger Lilies for a bouquet, they go so well with that zinnia and cosmos. Have a great week. Keep cool.
Thank you, Noelle! I picked one tiger lily (I know, hard to do) and then one broke, so that came in, too. Loving the oranges this year. 🙂
It’s amazing how we grow the same things in our respective gardens Eliza! Aside from the Cosmos (which I’ve never attempted) and the Dahlias (I didn’t dig mine up in time last fall) I could attempt very similar vases – and get quite dissimilar results!! 🙂 These are fabulous!
Thank you, Chris. We are almost the same latitude and only a few degrees longitude difference. The combinations of flowers in our gardens seem endless!
So gorgeous! The dahlias look like fire. 😊
Thank you, Pepper. Yes, I agree, like little flames licking upwards/outwards. 🙂
Perfect colors for the changing season.
Yes, orange tends to have an autumnal association, but tulips and lilies might challenge that! 😉
Fiery and sumptuous summer colors!
Thank you, Hien!
Hot colors for a very hot week! Perfect.
Thank you, Laurie. Hope you stay cool and hydrated!
Thank God for our heat pumps! Without them we would be suffering in this extreme heat.
These flowers are beautifully bright and cheery 🙂
Thank you, Anne. ❤
Oh wow! Three beautiful bouquets for the price of one! Too hard to choose… the Top two 😉
🙂 I make one nearly every day, why limit myself? 😀
I love that!! 😊
Dear Eliza
Great colours 👍 👍 beautifully combined.
Thanks for sharing
The Fab Four of Cley
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
Thank you, glad you enjoyed this week’s bright vases. 🙂
Love the drama queen colors, especially the last arrangement with the Agastache–nice touch!
Thank you, Tina. Flower arranging is my favorite play-time! 🙂
Hot colors for the next heat wave we are in for! Gorgeous!
Thank you! I am grateful that the humidity is holding off for a few days… otherwise, we’d really be suffering!
Another gorgeous arrangement!
Thank you, Sandy!
One word…FABULOUS!
Thank you, Monika!
What a gloriously bright trio of vases, Eliza – I definitely need more orange in my bold borders!!
I’ve been drawn to bolder colours in the past decade or so. I still like pastels, but when it comes to making a statement, the brighter the better!
That’s interesting to hear, Eliza – I know there are plants I like now which I didn’t use to like, although not so much because of the colour
❤️🧡❤️🧡❤️🧡 🤩🥳
Thank you, Susan!
Those vibrant colours sure match are current temperatures. Really lovely arrangements 😊
Thank you, Belinda. Stay cool and hydrated!
You as well 🥵
Simply stunning! And the colors just look perfect together. Nature really is the best designer!
Thank you, Debbie! 🙂
A sizzling display, Eliza! Your Dahlia reminds me of ‘Lady Darlene’, although she seems to shift colors a little each year and I’m still waiting to see what she’s going to do for me this year. I’m envious of the tiger lily.
https://krispgarden.blogspot.com/
Thank you, Kris. Tiger lilies naturalize readily here with all those rolling bulbils. I may have planted one a long while ago (poor memory), and the patch has grown. One of my spouse’s favorite flowers. 🙂
Extreme Dahlia envy. Gorgeous!!! I love the hot colors. Your zinnias are so lush, or luscious..
Thank you, Amy. The past two seasons I’ve bought zinnia starts from a local farm and they’ve been marvelous. I need to ask where they get their seeds. I want a whole packet of these beauties!
They are marvelous. I would like to know the same thing. Have you seen any of the Green Dianthus for sale?
Yes, a couple nurseries offer the green dianthus but I know it would just disappear into the background in my garden. Plus, an inflorescence without actual flowers seems kind of strange to me!
It is strange! I want to see it in person..
Makes you want to touch it, very tactile and mossy!
Beautiful flowers
Thank you, Crystal!
You’re welcome
Your arrangements are delightful 🙂 Those bright red and orange colours are lovely.
Thank you, Maria. Those hot colors match our weather! 🥵
😦
Wonderful summer colours Eliza. Especially that first gorgeous Dahlia with the apt name! I love the orange and purple combination too. 😃
Thank you, Cathy. I see combinations nearly every day that I want to try in a vase. 🙂 How I love summer!
😁
Stunning colours Eliza. Gorgeous.
Thank you, Flavia!
Gorgeous! Love that dahlia!
Thank you, Denise. It really does look like flames. 🙂
OMG, love the hot colors and beautiful arrangements this week!! How wonderful to be surrounded by all this color and beauty indoors and outdoors!🙂
Thank you, S! The garden has been great this year. 🙂
I forgot to plant Nicotiana
Mine self-sows every year. Comes up everywhere and most get weeded out. Inevitably, I end up with more plants than I need! I should send you some seed. I have several species: Nicotiana sylvestris, N. langsdorffii, and three types of N. alata. I also have pink, white and purple cleome seed if you are interested.
I am, as it was my Dad’s favorite, you must be just a tad warmer for it to bloom like a weed.
My email address in on my About page, send your address and what seeds you want and I’ll send them on up to you.
Thank you xo
