My first zinnias opened this week (Z. elegans ‘Aurora’) and I am pleased with the color, they live up to their name– goddess of the dawn.

Accompanying them are gloriosa daisies (Rudbeckia hirta), red/orange yarrow (Achillea millefolium ‘Paprika’), anise hyssop (Agastache foeniculum), poppy seed heads (Papaver somniferum), dill (Anethum graveolens) flowers and bronze fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) foliage.

A second bouquet was a gift for a friend that I thought I’d share as well. I really packed it with lots of different flowers, a classic meadow posy! Speedwells: white and pink (Veronica spicata) and purple (V. longifolia), bugbane (Actaea simplex), bellflower (Campanula rapunculoides), yellow loosestrife (Lysimachia punctata), sundrops (Oenothera fruticosa) pink and white mallow (Malva moscheutos), oxeye daisies (Leucanthemum vulgare), fleabane (Erigeron annuus) and white yarrow (Achillea millefolium).
Thanks to Cathy at Rambling in the Garden who hosts the weekly garden meme In A Vase On Monday, featuring flowers from our gardens. Click the link to join the fun or see what others are sharing this week.

That is quite a variety. I would have difficulty identifying several of them. Sundrops? Bugbane? (I thought the sundrops looked like big California poppies.)
Thank you, Tony. Certainly a garden sampler!
You have such a spectacular garden, what beautiful bouquets. There’s such a feeling of happiness just looking at those great images
Thank you, Laura. Definitely my happy place!
These are beautiful Eliza…are they legal? A delight to the eye kind lady, so many shades of color (pink, yellow, almost a pale orange, and a light mauve deepening at the tips, from the top picture), all coming from the one flower 🤗❤️🙏
Thanks, Mark. The garden is a abundant source of beauty and joy.
I could get lost in there kind lady…easily 😂❤️🙏
Gorg gorg gorgeous!!!!! You’ve got the touch Eliza!!! This bouquet a real beauty.
Many thanks, Dawn… a flower named after you! 🙂
Very pretty
Merci!
Wow! Talk about riotous colours! A celebration of summer – both of them. I am hard-pressed to choose a favourite
Thank you, Dale. I’m having fun in the garden! 🙂
How can you not with such fabulous surroundings!
🙂
Our zinnias are blooming too, and it’s a beautiful thing. Lovely arrangements, Eliza.
Thank you, Judy. I just love those zinnias!
Zinnias! 💕 the flower that makes you & the Bees & Butterflies happy. Lovely colors. What a lot of pretty blooms! My Zinnias, in 2 pots, have buds.
Thank you, Alice. Zinnias are definitely crowd pleasers in the garden!
Goddess of the Dawn zinnias – what a great name and a gorgeous flower! How lucky your friend is to receive such a beautiful bouquet!
Thank you!
Beautiful, Eliza! 😍 I love zinnias! 🌸🌼
Thank you, Julie. Summer isn’t summer without zinnias!
Love those zinnias Eliza – gorgeous colours. And the second vase is beautiful, looking so fresh and summery. Such a nice gift!
Many thanks, Cathy!
Beautiful arrangements, Eliza. Those zinnias, they’re really great summer flowers!
Thank you, Tina!
🌼💛🙌🏼🤗💛
Thank you, Susan!
How lovely you arranged them Eliza! I do so love the poppyseed heads in there, they add another dimension to the arrangement.
Many thanks, Maria! Summertime fun. 🙂
Hey, Zinnias…they’re wonderful aren’t they? And your arrangements are beautiful. Happy Vase Day!
Thank you, Beth. I love when the annuals start coming in!
You have such a great eye for arranging, Eliza. Your flowers are fabulous!🌼🌸🌺❤️
Thank you very much, Jane! 🙂
What pretty zinnias. Eliza, and what lovely companions you have chosen. Your friend will no doubt have been delighted with their posy too 😊
Thank you, Cathy. I think she is hoping for dahlias soon. 😉
Perfect summer bouquets. I will need to get used to the timing of plants, as zinnias were blooming last May when I left Texas.
Thank you. Yes, I imagine it takes a bit of adjustment after being gone so long.
My zinnia’s in bloom, too, and mercy, it’s stunning! Both of your bouquets are spectacular, Eliza — I hope your friend realizes how blessed he/she is to have such a generous, talented gardening buddy!
Thank you kindly, Debbie! 💕
Your vases are stunning! I’m impressed with the variety of flowers you have in bloom. I have plenty of vase material March through June, but many things have gone to seed now. Time to rethink summer blooms.
Your garden must be reaching its summer peak with all those blooms, Eliza! I’m glad your heatwave hasn’t done too much damage. Both arrangements are beautiful. I’ll have to hunt down seeds of Zinnia ‘Aurora’ next year – she’s a beauty. Only 2 varieties of my seed-sown zinnias are blooming so far but I’m hoping the others (sown on different schedules) join in eventually.

I think I need some Aurora! She is beautiful..so are the rest. My bronze fennel is also flowering, interesting?
Yes, very pleased with this beauty. My dill is flowering, but my main bronze fennel died, so I only have foliage. I think it may be biennial (?) as my plant flowered in its second year and died over last winter, but kindly left lots of seedlings.
I think you’re right about the biennial. Mine never got very tall, which is strange.
Both beautiful arrangements. My zinnia and Rudbeckia are blooming as well, but my zinnia aren’t as elegant as Aurora. A Monarch visited my zinnia this weekend…
Thank you, Tom. Good news about the monarch sighting. I’m still waiting. Last year they were lacking, so I have not a lot of hope. My milkweed seems to be untouched so far.
Ahhh, beautiful.
Many thanks!
So much to enjoy! Really lovely 😊
Thank you, Belinda! 🙂
They are beautiful. 😊
Thank you, Pepper!
If we were to play word association and you said “Zinnia,” I’d say, “Grandma!” The flower was a mainstay of her cutting garden, and being allowed to cut some for the Sunday table was a great treat. Needless to say, my bouquets looked nothing like yours!
Sweet memory, Linda. I associate them with my childhood as well. My mom would always plant a packet next to the front door. A happy flower!
Oh wow…they’re super pretty. I love Zinnias…a summer full of color.
Thank you, Monika. Such a great summer flower. So glad they are starting to bloom. 🙂
You turn up natures magic Elizabeth 💖💐😎
🙂 Thanks, Val, very sweet of you to say!
Love the variety of flowers and colors … very cheerful! 😀
Thanks, Denise. Summer fun for me. 🙂
Oh I get that … summertime is Eliza time!
👍🏼
That first image is top class! 💐💐💐💐
Thank you very much! 🙂
Gorgeous
Thank you, Eunice! Stay cool…
What beautiful zinnias, and they really are the stars of the show in this charming arrangement. Both arrangements are lovely.
Many thanks, Rebecca!
Oh, wow! Love it! I planted few zinnias, I have no more beds… my soil is clay, but I hope to expand next year and plant more zinnias.
Thank you, Ilze. Do you use raised beds like Hügelkultur ?
No, not Hügelkultur. Just palett collar and add woodchops at the bottom, and then soil on top. I once created a Hügelkultur bed, and it was in 2017 https://latvianmom.com/2017/08/12/permaculture-festival-2/
I am such a fan of zinnias. I’m going to plant lots next summer. Beautiful, Eliza.
Thank you, Flavia. Zinnias and dahlias are probably my favorite annuals, but it is hard to choose a favorite among so many beautiful flowers!
I love the different shades of color on the petals.
Thanks, Barbara, same for me. It really does look like the colors of dawn.
So so pretty Thank you for sharing with us ❤ ❤ ❤
Thank you very much, my pleasure!
Lovely vases both Eliza 😍 ‘Aurora’ is certainly a most apt name for that zinnia! I sadly forgot to sow any zinnias this year so must remedy that next year.
Thank you, Anna. Zinnias are one of my favorite annuals, wouldn’t want to be without them!
OMG, your zinnias are gorgeous and what a wonderful bouquet for your friend!!🙂
Thank you, so far the other zinnias are more orange, rather than like the pale one, but still a lovely form. I didn’t get around to planting any of other tall zinnias, which I’ll probably regret, but it is not like there will be a shortage of flowers in my garden, haha!
Yaay for Zinnias! Mine are just starting to open! Yours really go well with the yarrow don’t they!
Thank you, Chris. Over the past few years, I’ve found orange more attractive in the garden than I used to. The new zinnia hybrids have become really nice, too.
