Sweet-scented honeysuckle blooms (Lonicera periclymenum ‘Serotina’ ) tempt both me and the hummingbirds to stop to enjoy a sniff or a sip. Penstemon digitalis ‘Husker Red’ is also in peak bloom with its blushing pink, surprisingly furry, blossoms. Also included are a couple small red Astilbe blooms and a few stems of fleabane (Erigeron annuus).

Ooh, that’s very nice Eliza. Love the colors and some varieties I’ve never seen before. Great share 🤗❤️🙏
Thank you, Mark! 👍🏼
It is good to see that someone else appreciates honeysuckle enough to cut a few stems.
Brought inside, it is closer to my nose!
Beauty and fragrance all rolled in one lovely bouquet. Well done, Eliza.
Thank you, Monika! 💕
Beautiful 😻
Thank you, Dawn! I’m really enjoying these newcomers to my garden. 🙂
I can see that. They are definitely enjoyment worthy 🙂
Thanks, Dawn!
Delightful
Merci, Sheree!
Ah! the fragrance 😊
Yes, so delicate and sweet! Thanks, Rupali.
Very pretty!
Thank you, Judy. I don’t do pink bouquets that often. Too much yellow in my garden, I guess!
What a prety bouquet, Eliza! And it must smell divine!
Thank you, Dale. This Honeysuckle has a delicate, sweet scent, but not overpowering. Gives me the excuse to stop often to smell it. 🙂
That’s wonderful because nothing worse than the cloying over-pungent flowers!
That lovely bouquet looks as though it’s about to fly away in search of some hummingbirds and bees.
Thanks, Laurie. Honeysuckle blossoms are so curly!
So pretty – very light and airy!
Thank you, Barbara!
The creamy color of the honeysuckle’s so appealing. I know the invasive Japanese honeysuckle, but I just learned that we have a native species (Lonicera albiflora) that resembles the one you’ve shown here. I was surprised to see your fleabane and penstemon; their season essentially ended here. The bouquet as a whole has the lightness of spring rather than the heaviness of summer!
Thank you, Linda. I decided to go light and airy this week. I really like that honeysuckle– I thought it was native when I bought it, but can’t find the tag. A search online was ‘close enough.’
Our growing season seems to be at least a month or more behind yours. I wish our winter was as short as yours, but your summer temps are not for me!
An incredibly dainty looking vase-full.
Thank you, Alice. Lots of littles! 🙂
Happy spray of lovely delicate blooms! 🤗🔆💚
Thank you, Susan!
A very summery arrangement. The honeysuckle looks very fancy.
Thank you. I finally found a good spot where the honeysuckle is happy, it took a while to establish, but now it is full of bloom at last.
A big impact with small blooms!
Thank you, Sandy!
Welcome, Eliza.
What a great combination the honeysuckle makes with Husker Red – the perfect pairing. You have reminded me that I noticed an astilbe flowering here yesterday and need to take a proper look – seems quite early. We have a lot of wild honeysuckle growing in the hedge, so with the windows and the back door open the fragrance often wafts in…lovely! Thanks for sharing yours
Thank you, Cathy. Penstemon is a great plant that can take the heat and still look great. Honeysuckle is a beguiling fragrance!
For some reason Penstemon have not done well for me, although they are doing better this year and I have had some flowers from them
Only a few species tolerate cooler, moist conditions, as most are from arid regions. I don’t have a lot of success with those.
An airy confection 😊
Thank you, Belinda! 🙂
What a gorgeous spray of great flowers. I absolutely love the Penstemon and Honeysuckle – it must smell lovely. I have been meaning to find a spot for the ‘Husker Red’ but unfortunately I think my crowded borders might be too dense for it to do well. Love this Eliza.
Thank you, Jenny. Penstemon seem to like their own space. Overshadowing has done a number of mine in, alas.
I love that Penstemon. It isn’t often available here but then the one time I tried it in my current garden it promptly up and died on me.
I hope your temperatures have come down, Eliza.

Thank you, Kris. Penstemon are pretty tough once established, given enough sun it seems. What kills mine are overshadowing (read, neglect). We’re having another SoCal day here, hot and dry. Thunderstorms tomorrow.
So inspiring 🥰
Thank you, Val! x
Lovely combination and fragrant too. What a treat to have this on your table.
Thank you, Liz. It certainly is!
Oh, beautiful. And I’m imagining the lovely scent!
Thank you, Beth, it is subtle, but sweet!
Pretty combination, love the pink Penstemon.
Thank you, Tom. Do you have this in your garden? It’s a great plant.
No, I just have a wild Penstemon that volunteered. But the black cohosh just bloomed!
Lovely and light and airy. Just what we need in this heat! The Penstemon is a very pretty plant and one I have never tried to grow….
Thank you, Cathy. Most are drought tolerant and love a sunny spot. A long bloom time, too. 👍🏼
Those are delightful colours playing together, Eliza. I especially like the Penstemon digitalis ‘Husker Red’. I grew it from seed once, but don’t recall it being so beautiful. Think I might have to try again!
Thank you, Allison. Definitely worth trying again. 🙂 👍🏼
The similarity between Penstemon digitalis and Digitalis purpurea is striking and explains the former’s name, one assumes.
Yes, I assume so. Likely, Linneaus named Digitalis first and P. came along later from America.
How lovely!
Thank you, Cindy! 💕
Wow! pastel summer pretties. That honeysuckle looks huge compared to what I remember from childhood (Lonicera japonica) I am imagining the scent!
Thanks, Amy. The flowers are about twice as big as japonica, more showy. They last pretty well when cut, which was a nice surprise.
Wow, the fragrance must be wonderful.
Surprisingly subtle, and fades fast. Like roses, breeders sometimes give up scent for looks, I guess.
I always love the big bold blooms, but this delicate flowers arrangement definitely makes a statement.🙂
Thank you, S! ‘Littles’ definitely have their place (often on my north-facing windowsill). 🙂
I love Honey suckle flowers such a lovely sweet smell 🙂
It truly is! Thanks. 🙂
Love this, it looks like you picked from my yard 🙂
🙂 Thanks, Eunice!
Beautiful variety of color and texture
Thank you!
