I’ve gleaned my garden of nearly all viable blooms as frost is likely this week. I’ve made several arrangements and will show one a week so I can continue to join the IAVOM meme for a couple more weeks. Hopefully, that will be okay with the judges. 😉

First is a pink and purple confection containing Dahlias ‘Pinelands Princess’, ‘Chilson’s Pride’ and ‘Voodoo’, dark and light pink cosmos (C. bipinnatus), magenta Salvia greggii, lavender and purple flowering tobacco (Nicotiana alata ‘Watercolors’), Zinnia elegans ‘Sprite’ and Verbena bonariensis.
Thanks to Cathy at Rambling in the Garden who hosts the weekly garden meme In A Vase On Monday, featuring flowers from our gardens. Click the link to join the fun or see what others are sharing this week.

The contrast of the summery flowers with the autumnal trees is really nice. It’s hard for me to imagine frost already, but of course it is mid-October!
Thank you, Linda. The days have been in the 60s, nights in the 40s, perfect for foliage color building, but not cold enough to knock down the flowers. That has changed the past couple days, frost is nigh!
Your mix of cosmos, dahlias and others really show well together in this arrangement. One couldn’t help but smile and be happy with this vase around.
Thank you kindly, Susie. Flowers do have that effect on me!
love the lush colors!
Thank you, Ellen. This one is a favorite, I love burgundy and pink together. 🙂
Wow, it is so early for frost, but weirdly, you have flowers that are already finished here. It is not because of frost but more likely because of the arid warmth. Cosmos is not so pretty by late summer. Verbena bonariensis went to seed a long time ago. Dahlias bloom until frost, but are not as pretty this late, and are mildewing. I do not even grow (many) zinnias or flowering tobacco. Gee, that leaves me only with Salvia greggii in common, and we grow quite a bit of several cultivars of it, . . . but I have not grown that color yet.
Thanks, Tony. Yes, our climates are very different!
Beautiful.
Thank you, Rupali. 🙂
Lovely.
Gracias!
Oh, that looks so summery Eliza… it could still be August! Your dahlias are gorgeous. 😃
Thank you, Cathy, it’s been a good year for flowers. 🌸
Such pretty colours
Thank you!
Oh my goodness. Winter is coming when the Monday vases come to an end!! We’re still very warm here, high twenties, which just feels odd, although we should make the most of it. Not easy as we’ve spent last two weeks struck down by COVID and so our plans for an exciting adventure on the bikes have all been postponed. Hopefully in a week’s time we’ll try again.
MJ
Ugh, we, too just got Covid… we’ve had great luck these 4+ years… I guess our time had come. Hope we all recover quickly! 🙏🏼
Hi Eliza . Bad luck on joining the COVID club. Hope you feel better soon.
MJ
Thanks. It feels like a bad cold, thankfully.
I can already feel winter’s claws sinking in, Eliza… but what a lovely way to end the summer!
Thank you, J&A. Perfect way to describe it…’winter’s claws’ is so apt!
I love those many shades of purple, my favorite color…well, along with the other parts of the rainbow. Thank you for sharing these last shades of summer kind lady 🤗❤️🙏
Thank you, Mark.
Lovely arrangement. Frost is rolling in this week here too.
Thank you, Judy. Always brings mixed feelings. 🙂
Stupendous!! Planning your gardens, tending, arranging…you really do it all…for us to enjoy!
Thank you, Alice, my pleasure!
I, too, like the contrast between the bouquet and the autumn leaves. Haven’t had a hard frost yet, but one should be coming soon. After all, it is mid-October. Time was when we had hard frosts the end of September.
Thank you, Laurie. Yes, it wasn’t all that long ago we had Sept. frosts, the new normal gives us a bit more time with our gardens. 💛💚
Lovely, harmonious bouquet
Thank you, Sheree!
I’m hoping being so close to Lake Ontario will moderate the temperatures here for a few more weeks, although it’s still down so single digits above freezing at night this week! The last flowers of the year are often so rich and deep in colour, I find, and make for beautiful bouquets, like yours.
Thank you, Chris.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Love all this last hurrah arrangement. Thanks Eliza 💐
Thank you, Val~ 💜
Such wonderful flowers! We have not had any rain for almost a month, therefore no flower is blooming in our garden, despite my attempts at watering.
Thank you, Hien. We received over an inch overnight after a long dry spell. Most welcome!
Nice bouquets. My garden is now flowerless but it isn’t as big as yours… Always good to see your beautiful flowers. Frost is due here as well but we had such an amazing fall so far we can’t complain. (Suzanne)
Thank you, Suzanne. Somehow it is easier to let go of the garden in Oct. as opposed to Sept. Time to move on. 🙂
We, too, are expecting our first frost this week. I’m glad you’ve gathered enough of the remnants of your garden to share over the next few weeks, Eliza. What a perfect way to extend the season a bit! All those pinks and purples in this arrangement make me smile, and I love the contrast with the autumnal background.
Thank you for your support, Debbie!
The arrangement is so bright and summery it’s hard to imagine frost coming. I e been traveling, I hope I still have flowers when I come back.
Thanks, Tom. I’m extending the vase season by putting only a vase up per week, so even if there’s nothing left in the garden, I’ll post the memories.
A lovely finale – I look forward to seeing the rest of the remaining blooms over your next few posts.
Thank you, Andrea!
So pretty! Your garden is making a very graceful exit 😊
Thank you, Belinda!
How can anyone judge beautiful flowers? That is a lot of flowers for the end of the season. We have two more days of record breaking heat then temperatures will be down to the high 70s to low 80s. I just came from the NE and enjoyed the cool and leaves turning.
Thank you. 🙂 I’m glad you got to enjoy a bit of Northeastern autumn, overall a pretty good show, I think. Now you’ll get to enjoy a TX fall. 🍁
Very pretty, Eliza! I love the purple Nicotiana – I’ve never had any success with plants in that genus but maybe I need to try again. I think it’s a great idea to spread your photos through subsequent weeks.

Thank you, Kris. I had a fair amount of powdery mildew on it this year, which I know plagues you. It is a sneaky little spore!
Beautiful last blooms…we have lots of rain with the cold temps so I don’t see frost yet, but who knows.
Thank you, Donna. May you have a bit more time to enjoy the outdoors before the real cold weather settles in.
All those shades of pink and purple are striking — love your vases!
Thank you very much, Barbara. Hope things are settling down for your area. What a terrible catastrophe. 💕
Oh divine! 🌸🩷🌸
🙂 Thank you, Karen! xo
Lovely pop of color this time of year.
Thank you, Monika. I like traditional autumn colors, but burgundy and pink always calls to me. 🙂
I know just what you mean. Autumn is my most favorite season but it’s just hard to beat the impact and beauty of purple and pink flowers any time of the year.
Your In A Vase On Monday (Thanksgiving Day here in Canada) offering is gorgeous, Eliza!
Thank you, Kim and happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you, Eliza! Our day was filled with good food, quiet moments and lovely walks…
That is a very lovely last call and I can totally relate although I think you are a little further south than me, your tree colours look the same. I had to sleuth through your posts to see where you are! Are you close to the coast? let’s see what we can keep on gleaning – I like the creative aspect of November!!
https://zonethreegardenlife.blog/2024/10/14/in-a-vase-on-thanksgiving-monday/
Thank you, Jenny. I’m in western Mass, about two hours drive from the coast. We’ll see what we can come up with in the weeks ahead. 🙂
Such lovely blossoms, Eliza. I hope your arrangements last a long while, especially if the frost will do its thing in your flower garden.
Thank you, Tanja. Taking photos helps keep them fresh in my mind. 😉
Those colours are superb – good luck the frost.
Thank you, there was a very light one last night, deep frost tomorrow night… the garden will be done ’til spring.
Stockpiling IAVOM pictures – that’s novel! But maybe a good idea in the circumstances…😉 Today’s contribution is a real confection – who would guess it’s mid-October?! Lovely 😊
Thank you, Cathy. Wanting to prolong the season!
Faboo! IAVOM for weeks. You grow the best cosmos and dahlias – a feat to me. Well done and the colors belie the season. Hope you dodge the frost a bit longer.
Thank you, Amy. Alas, it is coming tonight, the garden is done for!
I just went out and gleaned three more small vases… you know how Yankees hate to waste anything, lol!
LOL! my father, born in Springfield, Mass. referred to it as ‘our cheap Scotch heritage’ or Yankee ingenuity. Time for the wood stove? 75 degrees here.
Yes, regular fires these days… thank goodness for that stove, the only place I can truly feel warm all winter is in the living area. 75º sounds perfect!
Love the pink and purple combination! It’s been a shock to have the weather change so quickly after such a warm fall.🙂
Thank you! However, I heard we might hit 70s next week… rebound!
A lovely combination, Eliza!
Thank you, Rebecca! 🙂
Beautiful colors!
An absolutely fabulous arrangement!
Thank you very much!
