Love Azaleas
This one is a show-stopper for sure!
I recently confessed to someone that I’m not particularly fond of azaleas. I think I’ll revise that to “I’m not particularly fond of most pink azaleas.” I’d sure make an exception for this one!
Ubiquitous in the South, I can understand. Most are Asian cultivars. Probably similar to the distain some folks have for forsythia up here. This one was here when we moved in 34 years ago. It would take a digger to get it out, but I let it clash with all the yard for a couple weeks a year, it jazzes things up!
My azalea favorites are the American species natives like Rhodendron viscosum, atlanticum and prinophyllum– delicate in flower and superbly fragrant.

Thank you! The mild winter was kind to it. If it gets very cold/windy, the buds winter-kill, except for any below the snow line. It will then flower like a bath tub ring!

Azaleas are so glorious when covered in flowers, especially in such a vivid color.
Thank you, Kris. I probably wouldn’t have bought this color, the former owner did, but never had the heart to tear it out. Now it’d be a massive undertaking as it has grown so big. For a couple weeks it is rather loud, but the rest of the year it is just a shrub. 😉
