What an unusual bloom and plant!
Thank you, Sandy. The new hybrids of the past decade have been extraordinary!
Beautiful.
Thank you, Cindy. ❤
Quite a change from a couple weeks ago!
For sure! Things are really leaping forward! 🚀
Such a pretty colour.
Thank you, Anne. I’m in love with it! 🙂
Gorgeous
Merci, Sheree!
Oooo that is a gorgeous purple colour!!
Thanks, Maria. In most light, it is almost black. Amazing richness!
Love the deep eggplant coloring! The ones we had down here came in much lighter colors.
Thanks, Barbara. There are so many new hybrids, it is hard to keep up!
Beautiful! 😃
Thank you, Cathy!
Gorgeous color! They have so many stamens…honey bees love them.
Yes 🙂 Thanks, Alice!
So very pretty and another I’m not familiar with. Google tells me they’re very toxic to people and animals, so I guess I wouldn’t want to try growing them in my yard. Still, how cool that they pop out early and give such stunning color to the yard.
Thank you, Debbie. The good news is that the deer leave it alone!
I don’t think I ever seen Hellebore in that color.
When I saw it at the nursery, I HAD to have it!
Helleborus
Doesn’t bore us.
🙂 Glad to hear it, Steve.
Love these new hybrids!!
Me, too. So hard not to collect masses of them!
A true queen of the garden! Beautiful.
Thank you, Monika!
I appreciate the way you often show entire plants rather than just the flowers. It gives a better sense of the way they fill their space, as well as providing a glimpse of the equally attractive leaves.
Thank you, Linda. Close-ups are beautiful, but context is good, too. 🙂
Love these ♥️💜🤗
Thank you, Susan!
A deep rich hue to your hellebore – I see many white ones, but not colors like these. And the photo show the foliage well, too.
Thank you, Tom. With so many new hybrids, it is hard to limit myself to just a few. 🙂
They are lovely! Your garden is certainly coming along 😊
Thank you, Belinda. It feels like it is progressing quite fast. I sometimes wish time would slow down so I’d have more time to enjoy the awakening. Tempus fugit!
Those are so pretty! 🩷🌷🌺
Thank you, Kymber!
Ohh, deep and rich color. New to me. Pretty.
Thank you, Amy. I have three (so far!) and this one is my favorite.
Hi Eliza. One of my winter favourites . Exquisite.
MJ
Thank you, MJ. As you can see, we are months behind you, climate-wise.
Dramatic blooms!
Thank you, Kris. Quite the diva! 😉
I love hellebores! Silly question, but how hard are those to grow? I’m assuming they have to be in a greenhouse in the winter?
No, they are winter hardy here. There are two species, the Christmas rose (H. niger) blooms in Dec. then gets ruined by frost and winter that follows. I have to heavily mulch them until March. The preferred species is H. orientalis, which this one is, comes up in April. I recommend this one for our area. Lots of great hybrids to choose from!
Thanks for that info, Eliza!
My pleasure!
Those, almost black, Hellebores are so interesting and unusual.
Their flowers hang so low and often on the their sides or upside down, so it often takes kneeling down on elbows to photograph them. Well done, Eliza.
Thanks, Vicki. Yes, it does take a bit of contortion to photograph them! Breeders are working on hybrids with flowers more up-facing. Mostly lighter colors so far, that I’ve seen.
Beautiful hellebores
Thank you!
just love them especially the early ones that are green.
Thank you. I’ve come late to the party, but once discovered, I’ve loved them ever since. 🙂
Beautiful! Looks like spring is doing its thing up your way, too. :)
Finally! Thanks, Robin. 🙂
They are stunning!
Thank you, Tanja!
Gosh! Such drama in these blooms.
Thank you, Carol. Dark, rich colour. 🙂
Fabulously dramatic 🙂
Thank you, Andrea. It is an arresting color. Blooming near it now is ‘Thalia’ narcissi, which offers a gorgeous contrast!
