Silent Sunday – Stream Freezing & Thawing
This entry was posted in Field Notes, My Photos and tagged ice formations, nature photography, Silent Sunday, winter stream. Bookmark the permalink.

That freezing and thawing sure produces some beautiful ice.
Agreed– thanks, Laurie. Perhaps similar shapes, but always different.
They look incredible, Eliza. Are they sharp? They look like they are.
Yes, sharp, but brittle, too. They could cut or scratch if at just the right angle… but hopefully, we don’t go there! 😉 Thanks, Joanne!
Beautiful nature show
Thank you, Sanjay.
Nature is so fascinating in all her forms
Agreed, I never tire of it!
❤️
Beautiful, fascinating and awesome.
🙂 Thanks, Gary! How much rain did you get? The Sierras are getting clobbered!
The storm just circled around us, a few showers, very dark clouds to the north and east of us. Very weird. We probably got less than 1 inch in total over 4 days. It did get cold enough to drive the bees away from our blossoms but hopefully blossoms will hang on for a week or so and temps get back to 60 in the afternoon!
It was warmer here at 63, now that’s a first!
What??? No fair. That will melt the ice quickly!
Yes, lots of snow melted today, the ice on the stream disappeared in yesterday’s rain. The next 3 days will be rainy, so it’ll make short work of the remaining snow. We may be snow and ice free by the end of the week. Less than a decade ago, snow lasted until mid-April. Kind of alarming…
Love it in your photo 🙂 I hear a blockbuster may arrive after another warm stretch!
More yo-yo weather! 🙂
Yes, it is March, so I do expect it. Mom always said I was born in a blizzard so glad this one will be warmer 🙂
Is the weather still indecisive? Ours is..right now it’s 41F. The ice is very pretty!
Thank you, Maria. We had two days of cold sandwiched between warmer. Up and down! Now this week it won’t even freeze at night… so strange.
Mother Nature’s icy filigree.
An Elizabethan collar around the stone. 🙂
Icy daggers soften slowly…
The process in and of itself is fascinating. 🙂
Fascinating comparison!
Thank you! 🙂
Bursting stars, shattered glass, so much to see!
Yes! Pretty amazing stuff! 🙂
Great captures, Eliza! I’m always so fascinated by the way water freezes and the structures and designs it creates! So cool!
Thank you, Julie! 🙂
Ice crystals are beautiful: so varied and each group and individual, unique. Beautiful capture, Eliza.
Thank you, Tina. The ice comes and goes with the weather… today is really warm, so lots of melting. 🙂
ohh, pretty! sharp photography .
🙂 Thanks, Amy!
Brrr … ice. Thankfully, we have mostly sunny skies today, with no ice in sight! Still, what beautiful photos you’ve got, Eliza.
Thank you, Debbie. It is a beautiful day here as well… I’ll take it! 🙂
Nature’s beautiful icy art!
She’s a master artist! ❄️💙
She is!!
You’ve got Texas-style spring weather — we call it ‘yo-yo’ too!
It is crazy weather… today is 60º, beautiful, really, but March 3rd? Yikes.
It makes me think of shards of glass. Best wishes for a slow AND steady melt!
Thanks, Kris. It is 60º today….OMG, March 3?! I guess winter is over?
Geometric ice patterns are fascinating – whether frozen or thawing. Definitely yo-yo weather here!
I never tire of seeing the different icy patterns. The weather has been so up and down. I definitely enjoyed yesterday’s sun and warm temps!
So beautiful, Eliza. Thanks for sharing a quiet Sunday moment.
You’re welcome, Monika. Happy to share!
Beautiful images Eliza, the natural shapes made by the ice are gorgeous! 💚 xxx
Thank you, Xenia! ❄️
Love these!
Thank you, Sandy!
Welcome!
Nicely spotted, Eliza and such fine detail!
Thank you, Belinda! As the weather warms this week, that may be my last ice shot this winter. It was 63F today… shocking!
We’re in for a warming trend too.
👍🏼
Still chilly there then. Love the patterns
Thank you, Karina. The temps go up and down, earlier in the week the high was 27F, today it was 63F… that is quite the swing! A lot of snow melted today… I expect by the end of the week it all will be gone as the warm days continue.
Yes, its similar here – though without the snow – but up and down a lot
I guess it is global, alas.
Beautiful. 😃 So you still have ice? We are getting frosts at night, but the daytime temperatures are slowly climbing.
Our weather flip-flops, this photo was taken early in the week when the temps never rose above freezing, 27F. Yesterday it rained a lot and washed away the ice, today it was sunny and 63F. The remaining snow is melting fast!
Beautiful studies of the ice, Eliza. It’s neat when the crystals just every which way. California mountains having an epic snowstorm 30-40”!
Thank you, Jane.
Yes, we’ve been watching the storm closely as our son lives in Truckee. He has his own snow removal business, so he’s been in near constant motion since it started. No rest for the weary!
Oh my! You really have first hand knowledge. I’d forgotten that. Well, he sure has his hands full. Hope he stays safe.
He just sent me a video of his front yard– SO MUCH SNOW! 😀
Love this ❄️ 🧡
Thanks, Karen. One of the beautiful transformations of winter! ❄️
Wow!
🙂 Thanks, Alys!
Lovely, like the lace ruffles Elizabeth 1 used to wear!
Yes! Thanks, Andrea. 🙂
Wonderful photos, love watching the water through the seasons!🙂 Our freezing and thawing must be over, the first dock and boat are on the lake.🙂
Thank you, it surely has been the warmest winter, esp. in the Midwest. Crazy times!
What fun to play with ice crystals: glad you got a chance this season.
Thanks, Steve. Unlike you, we have months to capture ice up here. I guess I take it for granted. 😉
Dragonflies! 😀
Pareidolia! Everyone sees something different. 🙂
