What a little cutie! Not your red squirrel, but yet another little woodland friend to admire. ❤
Thanks, Joanne. Almost as feisty as a red squirrel, but they love to den around our garden wall, which drives the dog crazy!
QT!
Yes, they really are… thanks, Cindy!
What fun to see!
He looked pretty sleepy, needed his morning cuppa! 😀
He’s cuter than a groundhog, that’s for sure.
And thankfully, eats less and does less harm in a garden, lol!
Cute as! 🧡🧡
Thanks, Karen. They are pretty charming, for sure. 😉
“Oops, forgot my 😎.” I wonder if it’s ever seen snow before?
No need for sunglasses with all these gray days… it was cute watching him checking out the lay of the land after his long nap. Wren was not pleased!
Lol 😂
🙂
Awww! How cute is that little critter. 🙂
Thanks, they are pretty cute. When I was a kid, I wanted one as a pet, never happened, ha!
Very cute! The snow/ice looks very cold.
Thanks, it has been a mild winter for us, temps running about 10ºF above normal. Not many days below freezing, thus this little guy waking up and checking if it is spring yet. 😉
Bring on spring!
Very cute little rascal.
They are cute, but love torturing Wren, ha!
Lovely, Eliza…
Thanks, J&A!
💖
Please excuse my British ignorance, is that a groundhog?
No, it is a chipmunk, about half the size of a gray squirrel and very common here. A groundhog is about the size of a York Terrier or even larger sometimes. Both of these go into torpor (deep sleep) through most of the winter, occasionally emerging to snack on their cache.
Thanks for putting me straight about that. We don’t have quite the same types of mammals and birds here, and I’m never too sure what’s what.
Understandable, I’m happy to enlighten you, Jill. One cool thing about blogging is learning about different critters around the world. 🙂
Last week, we saw a chipmunk, too. We were trying to remember if we had ever seen a chipmunk out in February. We didn’t think that we had. Early!
Yes, I was surprised by the earliness, too. But not all that surprising when the temps are in the upper 40s for days on end. This chilly morning, I’m sure he is snoozing away!
Yes, chilly in Maine as well. Back in their burrows!
Yup!
Ha ha….good one! One has woken up here as well although it’s probably gone back to bed now that the temp. this morning was 11!
Thanks! He sat with his head poking out for the longest time and then emerged enough for this shot, then he was gone. Checking the status quo, I guess. 😉
I miss those little chippies.
They drive the dog crazy! 😜
Pesky but cure. I have many “chippy” stories.
They love our strawberry plants!
Oops, cute
Yes, charming, but driving Wren crazy and a little pest in the garden, one bite out of each!
I expect the recent snow what a bit of a surprise for this little guy. Our Eddie made an appearance yesterday too!
This one foraged around for a day, but haven’t seen him since. Back to bed!
Interestingly, that last big storm passed to the southeast of us, we got barely a flake! There is now a couple inches of crusty snow out there on this frosty morning.
He looks cute, but I wonder if he likes digging in your flower beds…. 😉 And you got more snow?
Thanks, Cathy. Yes, a few inches fall every week it seems. Most keeps melting so the levels stay minimal.
Chipmunks love tulip bulbs, so I don’t plant many of those outside without wire barriers (most I force inside). Occasionally, they’ll undermine a root in building a tunnel, leaving a wilted mess, but voles are much worse. I think Wren investigating in the garden does more damage, lol!
Aww, what a cutie.
Like Elsa, Wren does not approve of such critters in the yard! 😉
Now I have two yard guardians. 🙄 oh joy. Just have to be out of the pony’s way or we’ll end up getting launched or mowed over.
Yikes! How old is he again?
5 years old, 99 lbs. A real bruiser! Elsa and I don’t stand a chance against his toned muscular body. Especially when he’s moving at warp 5 speed.
5 years young, and not slowing down in the least! Oh, dear. 😉
Think freight train. On steroids 😆
LOL!
What a sweetie Eliza, thank you so much for sharing 💜🐿
Thank you, Xenia! They are pretty cute critters.
I enjoyed this very much 😊. I hope its right!
Thanks, Belinda. 🙂 I saw him sitting there contemplating the day and thought of Phil, the ground hog. This is the closest we got (not that I’d want a ground hog in my front yard, ha!)
Cute capture! C’mon Spring!
Thank you, Tina. Every day it gets closer and closer. 🙂
Aww…So sweet.
They are pretty cute, but always scolding us!
Oh his little paws must be cold.
He seemed a bit uncertain whether to go back to bed or wander out for a look-see.
Oh how cute! And what a great backyard visitor!!
Thanks, Donna, drives our dog nuts, though!
What is that white stuff on the ground?
Ha, yep, still there, too. 😉
A lot more white stuff than we have. Despite the cute critters prediction, I wouldn’t mind a little more winter before mud season starts.
So glad to hear that, Tom…I feel the same, though it isn’t a popular stance! I don’t mind the cold as I can bundle up. I used to look forward to spring, but since the advent of ticks, I’m not so eager for it to begin.
What a little cutie!!
Thanks, Dale. That he is! 🙂 🐿️
Love me some chipmunks!
🙂
As much as I enjoy taking photos of the visitors here, I still can’t take the destruction they leave at my place another great reason to have Brady, maybe I can save the house for another few years 🙂
Yes, some are worse than others. Voles and slugs are the worst for causing damage here. However, I suppose everyone has to eat!
They do but they can eat what they were put here to eat 🙂
I always love the first chipmunk sighting of the season, but he’s definitely a little early. All of our snow is gone and I’m surprised I haven’t seen ours sitting on the deck.🙂
He spent the day restocking his larder and hasn’t been seen since. (As you can imagine, Wren was not pleased to see him out there!)
Cute little chipmunk! 🐿️ Winter is almost over, little one!
He went back to bed, guess it wasn’t quite time yet! 🙂 Thanks, Barbara.
So cute! Our chipmunks and ground squirrels must be hibernating … I haven’t seen them all winter.
Thank you, it paused a long time at its burrow entrance as if assessing the conditions!
