Wordless Wednesday – Gray Day
This entry was posted in Field Notes, My Photos and tagged gray day, monochrome photography, New England, winter, Wordless Wednesday. Bookmark the permalink.

We have had many days like that this winter. But this week the sun is in full force. I hope the gray breaks soon!
Thanks, Sandy. The forecast promises sun by Saturday, it will seem blindingly white after all this gray weather!
You will find yourself squinting!
Or digging out my sunglasses after months of not wearing them!
That’s true, too!
Oh, yes! So moody in its monotones. Northern woman that I am, I love it.
Thanks, Laurie. It truly does speak of our northern winters!
It looks peacefully gray.
It is a lovely view as the trail leads out of the woods into the field. I always stop to appreciate it!
Most days are like that here in MN winter. But we don’t have any snow due to a weird January thaw.
January has been particularly cloudy here, but not a lot of snow. It seems weird not to have snow in winter!
That’s still a lot of snow. Wow 😯
Still walkable, not deep at all, no snowshoes required. 😉
Even grey, the landscape is beautiful. 😊
So true, I have remind myself of that on days like this. It is winter!
Stillness… Lovely, moody, cloudy gray. So peaceful…
Thank you, Barbara… good weather for hiking. 🙂
….but your artistic eye makes the landscape gorgeous!
Thank you, Alice… sun this weekend!
Everything matches.
IKR? Color coordinated! 😉
In MN, we’re having the cloudiest winter ever. Warmer (40s in January?!?) and the tiny bit of snow is gone. Worrying.
I know, doesn’t seem like winter without the cold and snow on the ground. We have about 3-4″ left from the last storm. I’m grateful that the ground has some of an insulating blanket.
I often enjoy your ice and snow photos, but this one feels a little bleak. Of course, I remember what it was like to live in a place where, when winter dragged on and February and March blizzards arrived, we all could feel a little bleak!
The sun largely has been absent this month, so its cheer is missed. Relief is forecast Saturday…😎
Very atmospheric. Still, I hope you get some sunshine soon Eliza. Grey here today too. ☀️☀️☀️
Thanks, Cathy. Not enough color for me, I need some vibrance! 🙂
seems we seeing similar winter days…🙂❤️
I know, it feels like ages since we’ve seen the sun for a day or more. Maybe next week, let’s hope?
fingers crossed!! ☀️☀️
It is grey, but you’ve caught the simplicity of color beautifully–well done, Eliza!
Thank you, Tina! The sun will return eventually, but it feels like a long wait. 🙂
You manage to make grey look beautiful.
We had so many of them in January, didn’t we?
Thank you, Dale. Relentless, it seems. This weekend seems to have a break coming.
Yes. That is the perfect word. Even the days where they call for “partial sun” were often not to be. I would love to know how much sunlight we actually did get. Apparently, partial sun starting Friday and going through till Sunday but lo! Full sun is showing for Monday… we shall wait and see…
Yeah, those ‘partial sun’ teasers are the worst, dashing our hopes! Fingers crossed we’ll get a break this weekend! 🤞🏼
Today is such a uniform grey. Blech.
And yes, fingers crossed!!
Very pretty! I love the snow.
Thanks, Kymber, do you live where there is snow in winter?
Oh yes, I’m in Michigan. We have a lot of lake effect snow and ice here.
I expect you do! 🙂
Gray and cold, and beautiful!
Indeed, the snow sticking to the trees is the icing on the cake!
Eliza, this looks eerily like what we’re seeing this month, minus all the snow, of course. You know, I can stand the cold, but I truly prefer having the sun out and blazing! I think it must be the El Nino affect. You’ve captured a peaceful scene, but oh boy, am I looking forward to Spring!
I’ve been enjoying the weather and temps overall, but I really do miss the sunshine!
I love the bare trees and those gorgeous clouds.
Thank you, Alys. Monochromatic despite being shot in color. 🙂
That is really something. I almost asked if it was black and white, but the color in your shot is softer.
I almost converted it just to see how close it was!
That’s very gray but also very dramatic.
Thank you, Kris. Most of January, the weather looked like this, rather monotonous. I’m ready for some sunnier weather!
I see a vast, beautiful winter wonderland! ❤️ Is this your backyard, Eliza?
Thank you, Donna. My house in down the field to the right past the trees. This is a favorite winter hike for us, love that view!
It looks very dramatic and beautiful. We’ve had a lot of gray days lately caused by the marine layer (coming off the ocean). I think I see a patch of blue sky out the window now. 🙂
Thanks, Robin. I’m so sun-centric, I need my solar battery recharged!
The conditions do make for fine photography! A bit more sunshine would be nice though 😏
That is true, but man, gray kind of gets old after weeks of it! 😀
Still looks beautiful 💕
Yes, it is certainly, thank you, Karen. I am grateful to live in a place with lots of wild land. It truly feeds my soul.
Lovely photo, and while I appreciate these peaceful gray days let’s hope February brings us a little more sunshine and fluffy snow.😎
Amen to that! Thanks much.
I just watched the sunrise through a band of light clouds, a fiery orange, which is now gone, but its memory lingers. Two more cloudy days, then the promise of a sunny weekend. 🤞🏼
A soothing landscape.
Quite the opposite of your color-filled tropical garden! 🙂
Indeed I have been out chopping ginger and bird of paradise today.. soothing in a scented green way.
We’ve had quite a few of these days this season 🙂
Very ‘winter’ all around, it seems. We haven’t had a full day of sun since Jan. 12, can you imagine? But starting tomorrow, it is going to be sunny for FOUR days, it will be a happy shock!
It is so wonderful when the sun blesses us with its appearance! I had a few moments of sunshine yesterday 🙂
Lovely shades of gray. I am trying to send some sunshine over your way. 😉
Thank you, Pepper, I am expecting to see it tomorrow! 🙂
We’ve had more than our share of gray days. Today was exciting though. Our first day in ages when we produced more solar energy than we used. Brighter days are coming.
So true, I am relishing the renewing sun!
Such a beautiful photograph of a lovely spot.
Thank you, Kathleen. The sun finally came out on Saturday… I had missed seeing it after a nearly 3-week absence!
Nothing says winter like a gray day + snow! Nice wintry landscape!
Thanks, Denise. Plenty of gray days this winter, though I enjoy seeing the sun, too!
